  1. Dillon has bounced back nicely late this season.
  2. I'm not really sure I wanted him here on this iteration...last time when we actually tried to sign him... yes. Now at 38... probably not. But if we had signed him, he falls into the plethora of part-time, flexible position (3B, 1B, DH) bats and not full time 3B. Seems like if you play for the Brewers now, you are either one of the stars or you split starting time and potentially play multiple positions to maximize their value and avoid their "gap" (e.g. can't hit LHP on a Tuesday during a new moon when they ate bratwurst the night before).
  3. There is far more evidence that he simply took the biggest $$ offer than considering location. Normally when someone says "he doesn't want to play here" it is based on something (i.e. family is from west coast, lives a big-city party life, comments he's made previously, whatever). Seems like your logic is solely based on that "most people don't like Milwaukee". Just seems like an odd conclusion. Might as well not bother signing any FAs... non of them will like it here. And don't take it personally, but I've always loved this assume quote...
  4. We don't actually have to assume anything. If there isn't evidence of it... don't bother spouting it. Also, it seems that quite often people think Milwaukee is a dump until they come and live here... then actually like it. No not everyone, but many. But silly to just assume Justin thinks it because "everyone" thinks it?
  5. That seems a bit over the top. Turner got far more money with LA and a better chance at a WS ring by staying with the Dodgers (which obviously happened in 2020). That doesn't mean he'd hate to play for Milwaukee. Yes, there are people that wouldn't touch Milwaukee, but I didn't see any indications Turner was one of them.
  6. If the team still had Gary healthy, I'd be more interested in a playoff run. Right now, we have zero pass rush and I don't see how they could really don't see how they could make any noise in the playoffs because of it. Kind of like the Brewers this year, they just don't seem to have "it". Anything could happen in the playoffs if the team gets hot, but just seems a little unlikely for us this year.
  7. Prevent D only prevents you from winning. Matt Ryan didn't look good. Anything over 10 yards wasn't on target and several of them under were off. But wow, they went conservative on offense and defense... blah.
  8. This was my thought too. Any reports of who the next DC will be before the current DC is even fired are completely immature.
  9. It looked like he was starting to decline a bit from his 2021 season. At 35, it wouldn't be entirely surprising. if he regressed...hopefully at the Cub's expense (literally and metaphorically).
  10. So between the Twins and the Brewers, the upper Midwest is cornering the market on LH-OFers...
  11. TLDR Clearly we disagree. Favre and Mayfield were low draft pick dumps to teams that had little chances to win the SB.
  12. Sorry, I meant in 2024. Seemed like the original intent was to make the contract a 2 year deal. Possibly a third, but the cap hit grows nuts after that.
  13. I guess I assumed the option was always there to force the contract short. I suppose if he was playing out of his mind, you pay it, but it is such a large part of the salary cap at that point, it most likely gets declined.
  14. Negotiating contracts yes. Game planning, reviewing offense, etc... no. This isn't an OLB that comes in and rushes the passer or a CB that is on an island to shutdown a WR. We are talking about a QB that is the lifeblood of the offense - the person that holds onto the football more than anyone one else on the team. All plays, positioning, audibles, etc... goes through him. If the QB isn't there, whatever the offense does is only about 50% effective because is isn't him barking the calls, doing the cadence, nor throwing the ball. It also isn't just a couple practices. You realize there is a lot of film study and meetings that go on behind the scenes, right? In fact, I'd say the "behind the scenes" is probably more important than the practice field. Packer 2022 season is exhibit 1 for a QB not on the same page as 80% of his WRs. It wouldn't have helped with Watson as he was injured. But it certainly would've helped Romeo, Watkins, and many of the other younger guys. I didn't say a team couldn't reach the SB with a QB missing OTAs. I said it puts the team at a higher risk that I doubt they would even try it. Team unity is a HUGE aspect of winning the SB. We clearly didn't have it this year (and that goes way beyond the QB - but he was part of it). I can't think of a single example of a starting QB traded after June 1. Do you have one?
  15. There have been many players that have talked about how hard it is to be traded for the first time. Its a bit like a break-up - they don't want me anymore. But he has all ST to get to know his new team, coaches, and environment. Not everyone is a good fit for every team, but I doubt that will be the case here.
  16. I would happily be a loser in this fashion once in my life... I can't say I'm stunned by Omar's contract. He is a starting caliber C. If he rebounds to 2021, this is a steal. If he is just what he was last year... $7M for a replacement level starter isn't overly surprising. Seems like we are stunned by FA prices every year because every year they go up. This really isn't that much out of line...
  17. In our uber-specialized metric based baseball world, any time to take one stat (especially a unique one like RF) to be your hill to die on, you often will. Likewise with scouting reports alone. Statistics say a lot of things, but very few give the entire picture. Take several metrics and combine them with scouting analysis to get a better big picture. He certainly has the tools to be in CF, but not the experience. That seems to be the sum total. Oakland is banking on his tools and going to give him the experience. He certainly has far more potential value in CF than he would in LF, so I wouldn't blame Oakland for doing that. And FYI, "prospect" simply indicates the persons ability to impact the MLB level. Age doesn't eliminate someone from being a prospect...it just reduces their prospects of impacting the MLB level. Sometimes I think we use certain words so long, we forget the intent of why they are used that way.
  18. Put it for sale on eBay as signed by Babe Ruth and you'll find out quickly whose it is... (or at least whose it isn't).
  19. Interesting reflection on my predictions. Currently, the pair looks like this: Watson: 25 rec for 401 yds (10 games) Doubs: 31 rec for 314 yds (9 games) Seems like both will exceed my best case guess. But at least I'm currently on track for Romeo with more receptions and Watson on more yards. Of course, I also expected Watkins to bring more than the absolute goose-egg he laid this year and Lazard to get #1 WR-type reception numbers. Hopefully the pair can stay healthy the rest of the way and we can see a glimpse of our future starting WRs.
  20. Toro certainly wasn't the centerpiece of the Wong trade... and I doubt he starts at the MLB (or even appears for more than a cup of coffee) this year. I'm surprised you didn't look at more options like Justin Turner, who the Brewers have pursued in the past and just might be in our $$ range now. I'd say 3B and infield in general is our biggest need at the moment.
  21. Jim Rich on Fox 9 is going to be in his "the sky is falling" mode again.
  22. For me, Yeager is basically replacing Antoine Kelly on the team. High end arm with control issues. High ceiling, low floor player - a lottery ticket. I don't buy lottery tickets, but I can't complain when someone basically gives us one.
  23. This was also Brad Boxberger's history before he was signed by the Brewers. And Box had worse results on the mound (pre-Brewers) than Payamps. He is clearly an MLB BP arm. Maybe he just hasn't found his spot. Maybe he is a locker room cancer. Or maybe relievers bounce around a lot. Whatever the cause, he is merely a toss-in on the trade. Anything he brings is gravy.
  24. I'm not following. Are you saying that while being under contract with us, he'd go spend time with the new HC/OC to learn their offense? Yeah, I don't think anyone would do that and clearly it is against tampering rules. Trade in place or not. It isn't official until it is official. Yes, I think if traded to a new team, he would show up more in the offseason. If I were the trading team, I'd expect it. The only team that will take him will have SB expectations. SB teams don't lounge around in the offseason and expect to suddenly turn it on in 4 weeks. Packers 2022 season is exhibit #1 for that. And that is with Rodgers actually knowing 90% of the team and 100% of the offense.
  25. Trading him after June 1st isn't about the transaction.. its about him not being able to work with the new team, new WRs, new offense, etc... until training camp essentially. That is a lot of risk on the new team. Also, I didn't say he wouldn't want to play for us. "I suppose if he refuses to play for us" is indicative of a hypothetical. As in it wouldn't be impossible to trade him before June 1st if he pushed us that way. But I don't think we would trade him unless he pushed for it.
