  1. Wong has slipped this year and I don't see a need to spend FA $$ on him with Turang waiting in the wings. Better to spend the money elsewhere.
  2. Frankly, I'm not sure why Carter was dropped so suddenly. Yes, a pretty empty batting line, but he still had value (positive WAR from 2012-2016). Maybe his post 30 drop off was significant? And yes... he did have various threads when he hit HR milestones (though maybe 40, not 30). Vogelbach was a waiver wire chance that actually did ok for a season, but never was a long term plan. Tellez isn't going to carry us to a WS victory, but he is hardly our weak spot either. He ranks around the middle of the pack for 1B in the league and sadly... we've had worse. I'm happy to keep him on a low cost contract while we try to find a better option. When looking at the value someone brings to the position, you do need to keep in mind the alternatives, too. This isn't the mid-90s when high value 1Bs were a dime-a-dozen. He is basically providing the same WAR as Matt Olson for Atlanta this year and several others in that upper 700-lower 800 OPS range. If you can't get the guys at the top, a low cost middling 1B has value.
  3. It just occurred to me that the guardian helmet wraps are essentially a leatherhead wrapped around a modern day helmet. We've come full circle...
  4. Yes, it was my assumption that if Renfroe was traded, either Wiemer was going to be the starter or one of the other young OFers would fill in until then. That would be a blow-up rebuild of course, but not the worst plan if Renfroe brought back something decent.
  5. As someone that manages people, I have regular touch points with my team to see how they are doing and what concerns they have. Given some of the recent (supposed) communications gaffs of the Packers and Brewers, it makes you wonder if sports teams are missing that. Especially among your key players. Just talking about extension doesn't mean you have to offer one... but at least you talk about it and level expectations.
  6. Except there was this Kid that was in the majors by now... ?
  7. Yes. But they were. I'm saying they probably activated them too soon.
  8. Thought this was appropriate given both the cowboy and Packer discussion.
  9. And this only ranks as 2nd or 3rd on the worst decision list of 2022... Regarding King, I didn't mind bringing him back, but at the price we brought him back... ooof. He is clearly an NFL talent (though a below average starter), but injuries are a big issue. Someone will get hurt and he'll sign a vet minimum deal.
  10. But that is only a short-term bandaid. I think we only activate 3 ILBs for gameday, so we can deal with 3 ILBs on the roster (or perhaps a PS promo?). But how long can we handle an 11 man OL on a 53 man roster? I'm just fearing that activating that Bahk or Jenkings from the PUP is going to be a bad decision... Just felt really early based on the very minimal team activities they were doing.
  11. Jones for Runyan doesn't make sense to me. Still need to put someone on IR or released and you'd have 11 OL... It isn't like Jones is going to be active for the Bears game. When does the other shoe drop? (i.e. the 53 man roster move to make room)
  12. Yes, I also mentioned this predates MLF to MM's era also. I think Rodgers figures he is more ready than the actually is... Just can't duplicated game speed decision making.
  13. Still would've rather seen Tom at RT and Hansen on the bench. Tom did look good when he got in at LG.
  14. Yeah, I'm here scatching my head because this has gone on for years. Predates MLF with MM also. The starters get little to no preseason game time and come out flat and looking like they don't have a clue. A game or two in, they look good again and everyone is R-E-L-A-Xed. But why do other teams come out looking sharp while we look like we are cutting down the tallest tree in the forest with a herring? I don't get it. 11-5 rest of the way.
  15. Yeah, but not perfect... he had that one really short pass go incomplete...
  16. Imagine if they'd have cut him the day before his 10 year anniversary and how people would've vilified them for doing so. It isn't like they make a big announcement about it and patted themselves on the back. They clearly allowed him to celebrate a big milestone (Hooray for 9.75 years of service doesn't have the same ring to it). Nice gestures don't have to be massive to still be nice.
  17. I think it is really understated on how difficult it is to change companies in your career. You grow up and earn the leadership and respect in one organization, then switch and expect things to work in a similar way, but with a bigger paycheck. But they rarely do. Respect and leadership are not given, they are earned and no large FA paycheck earns it. Even if you do feel this way, it is odd that he chose to air it out. He is unlikely to be back in the MLB level... he is essentially retired. There are always opportunities to come back for appearances, media events, etc... unless you burn bridges. Not that Cain's bridge is burnt to the ground, but certainly some scorched earth.
  18. Yeah, I do remember a couple times like that. Celebrations are fine, but be mindful of the situation first. Similar to Nick Barnett doing his samurai sword dance after being terrible the whole game, down 20 points, and finally doing something right... I was hoping we'd keep Z and drop P this past year, but I'm guessing the big health Q was the main problem. Regardless, dude is now in purple and is the enemy. It will be interesting to see if he or Hunter stay healthy this year. I'm not sure it will matter much as their secondary probably still can't cover anyone.
  19. @timpep I don't get any of your money either way. I moderate as a volunteer. I did read back 2 pages of history and it was all about Cain's family and the 2020 decision to sit out. Unfortunately, the one new tidbit was 3+pages back. But that is exactly why we ask people to start new threads. If you miss the one post that triggers the new discussion, it is hard to find it again. #ModeratorsAreHumanToo
  20. I'll reboot the discussion rather than try to split all new comments into this thread. Please do remember to start new threads for new topics. Thanks!
  21. I closed the thread and there were two main reasons: 1) Brock has requested that we start new threads instead of resurrect old ones. 2) I didn't see anything "new" for the last page or two and everyone was rehashing the two year old arguments about why Cain didn't play in 2020. I did miss the post about Cains recent comments, but then again... no one was talking about it anymore. Please feel free to open a new topic about Cains's comments.
  22. Don't go all "unwritten rules" on us now... ?
  23. We can all agree that 2020 was not a great year and that it was two years ago. Moving on.
  24. I think a major part of it is that everyone is cutting players to get down to 53. I'm sure most teams are pretty flush with their own "hidden gems" which makes it hard to try to grab someone else's. There were over 800 players cut recently (a number that blows my mind). Probably the bigger risk is if someone has an injury and they start looking at everyone's PS to see who they can grab. With 10 OL on our 53-man, there isn't anyway we are going to elevate him to protect him.
  25. Yep. When you go from the Green and Gold to the purple people, all bets are off... Makes one Ponder what he was thinking...
