  1. I swear the Packer online sites read our forum for ideas... https://packerswire.usatoday.com/lists/4-options-the-packers-have-to-replace-corey-linsley/ Linsley will reunite with former teammate Bryan Bulaga and help with a promising young quarterback in Justin Herbert. However, Green Bay now has to find a new player to snap the ball to MVP Aaron Rodgers. March 15th, 8:57PM Which of you is Brandon Carwile???
  2. SD rarely cheered for the Chargers when they were in SD. I doubt they will cheer for them now that they left. .
  3. Glad for Linsley going to the Chargers. I heard it was NYJ - yikes! Here is getting somewhere with a good young QB and reunion with Bulaga.
  4. It is great to retain Jones because he is an impact player. I'm mixed about the contract as others have been. But perhaps this ends up being a two-year deal or so. But either way, the offense improved today.
  5. https://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/6/20/15832628/mlb-rookie-profile-derek-fisher-of-houston-astros "A faster Jeromy Burnitz". So he throws bats into the stands every game?
  6. I do miss not hearing him on the radio down here. If you get a MLB.TV subscription, you can listen to the games on your phone. I do that a lot when I'm outside doing something else.
  7. How does that affect the cap? $8M savings? Does any of the $4.4M count or as "unlikely to be earned?" edit - $7.25M from Smith. With another $750k from Amos and $120k by letting Lovett go: https://packerswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/12/packers-clear-over-8-million-in-salary-cap-space-with-three-moves/ Smith ends up with a $19M 2022 cap hit and something like $15M savings if cut. Probably the last year if they don't restructure again.
  8. I'm pretty sure that they don't need to have a full roster, but the empty roster spots will count as minimum salaries. So I'd imagine if you have 40 players under contract, you'd have to count 11 minimum salaries. I wouldn't think the practice squad players would count, otherwise pretty much everyone would be fine. I could be wrong though and this year with the different exceptions like VSB contracts or other veteran contracts, it seems like its moving closer to the NBA's CBA. Though as we move away from Covid, hopefully it'll go back to normal. FYI, there are no practice squad players at the moment. You either sign them to a futures contract or they become FAs. But I think you're probably right about using minimum salaries for empty slots. Just seemed odd to me that a team would need a full roster (well at least 51) before FA begins.
  9. I did learn the art of opening one hook of velcro at a time to minimize the sound.
  10. Technically, my first one was in kindergarten when a friend of mine gave me a huge hand-made leather wallet with a long chain and belt loop attachment (his family did leather work). Way too big for anything I'd like to carry now, but I used it as a "toy" more than anything. But my second was the nylon velcro wallet (black with gray trim). I loved it because it never wore out. But eventually I went back to leather. SeaBass, I'm trying to imagine all the reasons why you'd be opening your wallet in class... who were you paying exactly.. and for what?
  11. If you mean you want to stay with Spectrum but buy your own hardware, I'd check with Spectrum first (their website might have the instructions too). Normally there are HW requirements for the modem you get and they will need to send a service person out to set it up for you. They might have instructions for how you can do it yourself, but either way the new HW must be setup in their system to allow the new HW to login. Personally, I would buy a separate modem and wifi for performance, but that does get more complicated for the tech setup. I ended up turning off the wifi from my DSL modem (which I still rent from them) and connecting my own. When my kids came home from school, we were always lagging on 20 mbps DSL. I ended up using Google WIFI. It has a main WIFI hub that you plug direct into the DSL modem ethernet port and two satellite extensions (mesh network technically) that allow better reception around my house. That actually allowed 4 kids, wife and myself (often with streaming TV on) to work on 20 mbps. Then when COVID hit, I had to bump up to 30 mbps since zoom calls where a bit more bandwidth hogish. But you can also purchase a simpler single WIFI setup that you would plug direct into the modem and follow their setup instructions. Replacing the WIFI alone won't save you the money, but it might fix the lag. Do you know what WIFI version your modem supports (802.11x where x is b, g, n, or other letters)?
  12. Why are they required to have a full roster by league start? Frankly, it should be pretty easy to sign 14 random players that want a shot at the NFL (I'll sign for cheap). Maybe it is a such a rare situation, but I've never heard that a team was required to have a full roster by the first day of the league schedule.
  13. Well, I'm paying $50/month for 30mb (DSL), so double the cost for 2.5-6x the speed...
  14. Still seems odd to downgrade compensation for vets. Losing someone of value is losing someone of value. Does it really matter their age or tenure?
  15. Yes, the top guys are going to get paid regardless, but the lower to middling FAs are going to be hit the hardest. Jones and Linsley will probably get expected level deals, but King, Williams, and Wagner might be interesting situations.
  16. I think the combine gives a better "apples to apples" comparison.. Everyone is working with one the same drills on the same surface and the same environment. Its just one data point, but still a useful one.
  17. [sarcasm]Good. We want him to play FB and not be a pyromaniac.[/sarcasm] 1) Lowry was a good pick. He has struggled lately, but overall a good pick. 2) Lowry's success or struggles has nothing to do with any other NW player. Are you saying the university (where they didn't actually even play together) somehow has a bearing on Lowry or Newsome's success potential?
  18. Ordered it for my condo in Montana and we were told 80mb speeds initially, pushing towards 200 by the end of summer. Tech guy is hooking it up this week. I can report back then Can I ask how much that costs?
  19. I doubt Arcia is cut (possibly traded), but it really seems like the club is committed to seeing what Urias can provide for upside over Arcia. I'd put the odds more at 80-90% that Urias starts at SS (or starts more than not) if both players are healthy.
  20. I saw an announcement once for a "Butts-McCracken" wedding. I'm guessing they didn't hyphenate. [sarcasm]They’d probably take a lot of crap for that.[/sarcasm] A perfect example to pick Rockafeller instead of either name or the hyphen.
  21. I like Cain, and hope he does great for us this year. My biggest concern is that he took last year off, and said the only exercise he got was chasing after his kids. Counsell is obviously concerned about the shape he's in, as he put him on a program that kept him out of games for the first week in order to get him in shape and ready for game action. Then, in that first week of training he pulled something in his leg, further delaying his progression. These guys are professional athletes. I have doubts that Cain will be at his elite level this year. I hope I'm wrong, but it looks like he took a year off and got soft, and the Brewers are on the hook to pay him regardless of whether or not he gets back to "playing shape." Meanwhile, Garcia shed 35 pounds and looks like a different person. At this point, I'm thinking that it will be Cain who loses the most playing time out of the trio of Bradley, Cain, and Garcia. Either way, I'm glad we have the extra depth. Yes, this. It isn't bashing Cain, it is being realistic about his age, injury history, and taking a year off. If you were to wager on which of our starting OFers was most likely to not reach their career numbers and/or have an injury prone year, which one would you choose? Cain - Age 35 - 288/348/418 Yeli - Age 29 - 296/381/488 Garcia - Age 29 - 271/324/472 Cain is clearly the wild card because of age and time away. Signing JBJ is probably 50% Cain insurance, 25% 4th OFer (which means starting about 10% of games), 15% Garcia insurance/platoon-mate, 9% Yeli injury insurance, and 1% Yeli performance insurance. Either way it adds up to a good move, IMO.
  22. Probably part of the consideration is whether we have a DH or not. Having a pitcher (.100 OBP?) in the 9 hole makes more of an impact to Yeli at #2 than at #3. Kind of an interesting math problem honestly...
  23. Ha! Fortunately, Mrs. Nodakfan’s maiden name is equally ridiculous, so she had few reservations about taking my last name. We purposely gave our son a middle name (‘Taylor’) that could function as a last name in case he ever wanted to adopt a DBA name. We are a proud people, but not that proud. When you got married you didn't hyphenate last names? I had a substitute teacher in grade school (last millennia) who was Mr. Kookenen-Flashberger. I never understood why they didn't just pick "Smith" or something...
  24. My school district finally came through, however, it wasn't the district itself, it was the county. My district was at the mercy of the higher ups. My wife had the first shot, just a 1 day headache, 2nd shot, nothing, no symptoms but a sore arm for 24 hours. She got pretty lucky as a lot of people are down for the count for a day or two after the second shot. By any chance did she have it before (even in symptomless form)? I'm curious if there is any correlation to minimal/no interactions to the second shot if the anti-bodies are already there.
  25. Didn't say he was: "QB who largely makes plays due to his legs". Dak uses his legs to run when necessary and create space/buy time for guys to get open. Very much like Rodgers early in his career. If his mobility is more limited, it could be problematic for his game. You apparently give the 'brain trust' (term used looosely) a bit more credit than I do! Fair point about the "brain trust" of the Cowboys. But even saying "largely makes plays due to his legs" is misleading. Would you qualify Rodgers game by saying that? They run about the same. Yes, Rodgers uses his legs to his advantage to extend the play and escape, it is far more about quickness and feeling the pressure than actual speed. No one would say Rodgers "largely makes plays due to his legs."
