  1. Lake Geneva could be another interesting day trip for you but public transit likely won't be easy to find. Yeah, that is pretty much car-only. Maybe a bus will get you there, but nothing to get around town (granted, its small - maybe a bike rental would do once in town). If you do this, I would recommend the mail-delivery boat tour. They hire students to deliver mail by boat for the lake-front houses. The student jumps off the front of the boat at the house's dock, runs down to the mailbox, runs back to jump on the rear of the boat. The boat does not stop. Quite often, a kid ends up in the lake. And its a nice tour of the length of the 10 mile long lake.
  2. Don't forget Hart in the background... he was an MVP at AA.
  3. post #18 Man, I didn't even recognize Rodgers in that pic... He looks better in Green and Gold.
  4. Its way too early to throw Harris into that list. Maybe too early for Sanders (but he has his foot in door). But I'm agreeing with the basic premise. Jennings is good, but not a piece to build around. He still isn't a good shooter, small for a defender, and his attitude after missing the All-Star game...Ugh. It might be wiser to trade for some younger talent that are blocked on their current team than a bunch of draft picks. Especially since the teams that will be interested in some of our players are playoff teams looking to add a piece or two, thus low round draft picks.
  5. Tools and athleticism do not necessarily translate into usable baseball skills, however, especially for a player like D’Vontrey who is behind in the development curve due to his previous football focus. This part is probably what most people think of him. When he was drafted anyone following the draft knew he had 5-tool possible skills (not Braun power, but good for a CF) and that he was very raw. Thus, I am waiting to see if that turns into production. I actually expect him to struggle at AA this year, as his instincts are still behind the curve (pun in intended). But with him right now, its not so much production as it is improvements. And he did improve last year.
  6. Will they wear hats that have NYM on them too? Maybe some fried chicken? Of course, it will fit naturally on the fans in the stands...
  7. That isn't a good sign... Axford forgot the ball!
  8. I didn't see your original post, but you probably want to aim more for being assertive in the workplace (not aggressive). Or proactive might be the right term. Nip it in the bud before its a huge problem. on a side note, i've learned that men are actually worse gossipers than women are. The stigma is on women, but men are no better or worse. Its just a human failing not determined by genitalia.
  9. but take away Braun [sarcasm]You might not have noticed that Braun won his appeal. Wasn't any big deal and it was barely covered in the news.[/sarcasm]
  10. Not that I expected it, but no word on the "other 2 Brewers" that were under suspicion. I wonder of 3 Brewers testing high (extremely high in Braun's case) caused some doubt in the testing process (i.e. spiked by someone).
  11. Hang on to Hart (and Weeks) as they hit 25+ HR a year for the rest of their contracts. Well, Weeks hit that once and 20 and over twice, so that is a bit of an overstatement for him, but he has good power for a 2B, which was more the point. Seems like lately people greatly overestimate Weeks power, especially in the lineup threads. He has good power for a 2B. Overall, he is more average power (4th or 5th on the team). Honestly, the answer depends a lot what people are willing to trade in return for your players... I don't think to trade Hart or Weeks solely because of Gindl or Gennett. But depending on what you get in return with those players you might.
  12. GAME05, I've had similar experiences with certain co-workers, so a bit of advice: - Control what you can control. Cliche' but true. People can be jerks. Prepare yourself in dealing with him. Get things in writing (email). - My guess is that your boss (and others) knows the guy is a jerk and uses a grain of salt with what he hears from that person. - Don't reciprocate. You don't have to be best buds, but be a good co-worker no matter what. Its a losing battle to reciprocate because you justify his actions. - Remember that if that person isn't in a position of high esteem to you (like a significant other, parent, sibling, close friend, mentor) why would their opinion of you mean a hill of beans? Be more interested in the people that really matter. edit - spelling, clarification
  13. reignite the custard wars I knew I was stepping on fragile ground...
  14. If you fly into Chicago, you can take the Amtrak (train) up to Milwaukee. A little more interesting than a bus, IMO. My recommendations would be: The Domes (someone previously had a link) are nice The Art Museum downtown is pretty highly regarded Frozen custard at Kopps Any festival on the weekend will have interesting items and fireworks on Saturday night. Go ice skating at the Petit Olympic Training center.
  15. If only I was about 3 inches taller I could be Drew Gooden and be paid a bajillion dollars to not play for someone. And now he has a partially torn ligament in his wrist. Ugh...
  16. This thread is beginning to remind me of the local bar with the permanent sign outside that says, "Free Beer tomorrow."
  17. Why would MLB make an announcement in Maryvale? Now certainly Braun would if he were the one breaking the news. The MLB could make the announcement of the suspension or internally render the decision for not guilty at any location of their choice. The main news focus(Braun) will be in Maryvale in either case. As discussed prior, if the MLB announces nothing (i.e. no suspension), this simply could mean that they will inform Braun and the Brewers today. Either way, its a big news point.
  18. I'll leave shells on the ground (as that is generally accepted), but take all "real" trash. Although, it probably wouldn't take much for me to change that. But I can see this leading to some other restrictions during those games also. I can see this announcement coming over the loud speakers: "Please fans, we remind you that there are no comments allowed from the peanut galleries... no comments from the peanut galleries, thank you."
  19. Big Papi instantly becomes the best PH either team has, & by a country mile. That is true, but the Sox have to pay for that luxury also. The AL teams add another "starter" to their 25-man roster. Generally that means you will have to pay your DH more then your best PH and thus have less to spend on your players. [sarcasm]I think we should force all the big market teams into the AL, then not allow the DH during the World Series...[/sarcasm]
  20. [sarcasm]Just make it like football. One team of offense, one team for defense.[/sarcasm] I can see the logic in having the DH, but I still tend to be a purist about it. Offense is what (most) people want to see at the ballpark and not strategy, so I would imagine that the DH will come to the NL at some point.
  21. [sarcasm]I always go to the WSJ for my sporting news. By the way, ESPN told me that Google is a buy and hold...[/sarcasm]
  22. I like Mat a lot...maybe even love him. But I know deep down he's not the right one for me. Homer, if you can't be with the one you love then love the one your with!
  23. When Braun is found innocent What about if he is only found "not guilty?"
  24. Ooof! I saw that picture of Lucroy and my first thought was, "Ouch, I've done that before". But the tag says he was "blocking" the ball...
