  1. Morgan isn't as good as Gomez in CF, but he isn't Kotsay either (or Brady Clark). I thought his defense was more "above average." Is Ramirez not defensively better than McGehee? Gamel should be better than Prince defensively. Ramirez + Gamel should be better offensively than the 2011 version of Fielder + McGehee, so I wouldn't worry about the offensive side. No 1-2 punch, but no black hole batting 5th for half the season, either.
  2. They just put in a bid and it happened to be the highest So guys, how much money did you find in the couch seat cushions? $2M? OK, put that in as the offer...
  3. As far as Narveson is concerned, I don't think he has much value for us. Ouch. I've never been high on Narvy, but come on. He is a good 5th SP. In years past, he would have been a #3 or 4 on our team. If Peralta beats him out, then you put Narvy in the pen and use him as the 6th SP (which I doubt happens). He is no great shakes, but SPs don't just grow on trees. If you're going to trade him, get something decent in return at least...
  4. Paul, just remember that given that Taylor Green has had 2/3rds of a good season in 3 years. It's more likely that it'd be Rollins and McGehee with Green in AAA to open the year. .... But it's hard to upgrade both 3b and SS without weakening another spot (although the case could be made that Gindl is a wash with Hart) So you think Gindl (who hit less than Green at AAA) is more likely to match Hart's production than Green is to beat McGehee's production? That's just crazy talk. The chances of Green hitting .746 (McGehee's career OPS) in the MLB next year are far greater than Gindl hitting .821 (Harts career OPS). With or without Ramirez, I would wager that Green is a backup infielder. Either platooning with McGehee at 3B and Gamel at 1B. Or playing 3B for some games, while Ramirez gets some days off or plays 1B, giving Gamel some days off. No way do we have McGehee and Ramirez on the same team.
  5. That would be Frank Francisco, not Fransico Rodríguez, unfortunately. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. I do think Gamel will be a good solid .800-.820 OPS guy, by the way That would exceed McGehee's career OPS. That is how people predict Gamel and/or Green could be better. 2009: Age 26: 3 out of 4 months over 800 OPS. Finished with a 859 OPS. 2010: Age 27: 3 out of 6 months over 800 OPS. Finished with a 801 OPS. 2011: Age 28: 1 out of 6 months over 800 OPS. Finished with a 626 OPS. I don't think Casey is as bad as last year, but I don't think he'll finish above 800 OPS again.
  7. Oh come on!! The Yankees with Jeter and ARod!!! Maybe that should be in blue....I don't know. That was the first thing that popped into my mind. Perhaps when they first traded for ARod, it wouldn't be blue. Got to be in blue now. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I'd be on board with this if we aren't talking a riske multi year deal. So did you mean "risky" or "Riske"? Oh, wait, never mind. Same thing...
  9. I'd be shocked if KROD accepts arby. I think he would rather close for 3/27M than setup with the Brewers for 1/14M.
  10. Thanks for the followup colbyjack. So it sounds like overall, the depth sound average? Seid seems to be doing a decent job in drafting. This will be a big year for him.
  11. Yeah, I used "two rounds", since one of Prince's could become a 2nd round pick if the Mariners or Cubs sign him. Come on Washington!
  12. there is way too much subjectivity involved. Not really. The NFL has never "published" how their compensation system works, but there is one guy out there that very accurately predicts the compensation (there is a link somewhere on lambeauleap.net). Its a pretty well defined formula of past performance and the cost of the deal the player signed. So, not anymore subjective than the ranking of FA into A, B, and None categories.
  13. How can you not vote for Burnitz? He is the all-time career leader in bats helicoptering into the stands! I mean, the Babe has nothing on him there. (Well, I'm pretty sure of that anyway, BaseballReference.com has conveniently left that all important counting stat off the list).
  14. Since its highly unlikely that Mark A is spending any personal income on the Brewers, (and is legally impossible to take any of the Brewer's operating income to spend over there), I doubt this has any effect on the Brewers. These are corporations we are talking about. Its not like he is deciding to eat generic Mac-n-Cheese 3 times a week because he wants a new car...
  15. MLB should simply look to the NFL. Look at how a teams offseason went as a whole, then grant compensation picks based on who they lost and gained.
  16. I think you could get him on a 3-4 year deal for between 10-13 million per. Yeah, I'd take a look for that price range. But you would either have to move Wolf or Marcum if you did that. Having Gallardo, Grienke, Marcum, Wolf and Jackson in the lineup sure looks good, but is just to expensive given other needs we have.
  17. Anybody else feel he's going to accept arby, as I do? Nope. I think the Astros will sign him so we will have the first pick of the draft! Ok, seriously, I just think egos are too big to accept that. He might end up making less somewhere else, but he will be closing somewhere else.
  18. Bottom line, unless you are an oil cartel or something, any business that can increase prices in this economy is making money. Hmmm... an oil cartel that doesn't make money? Not on this planet... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Ok, so most probably we will have 6 picks in the first two rounds of the 2012 draft. Does anyone know how this draft look depth-wise? (CJ, I tried reading the draft chat, but work firewall blocks it)
  20. Its going to mean less deadline trades. Teams that want a player will offer less, since they won't get compensation. Yet, teams trying to trade a player won't give them up for peanuts, since at worst, they will get the compensation picks. I wonder if there is provisions for a trading team to talk extension with the player prior to the trade being consumated, like the NFL does.
  21. That is why one big star on a crappy team makes him more "valuable" to that team. I'd prefer if they just came out and said it was for the best player regardless of team. But if any particular bias or stat favors getting the Brewers another MVP, I'm all for that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. in which case I would be surprised considering you can pick up defensive SS who can't hit at all pretty easily. The Brewers have to look at all avenues for adding talent. If there is a guy out there that is an improvement on what we have, go for it. Especially at the cost of $50k (or simply losing $25k if you have to send him back). Hopefully you draft that guy as option B (or C) and not option A for your starting SS, but... And given that the Brewers will be at the end of the draft list, chances are there won't be much available...
  23. He hit 434 over only 83 ABs in a league known for high offenses. In the league, three players hit over .400 and 27 (out of 67) hit over .300 for the season. Surely its an impressive stint for Gennett but I don't think anyone is anointing him the #1 prospect based on this. In my eyes, it helps make up for a so-so season at Brevard (especially the first half). And we move on with him at AA. In the same vein, Ke. Davis also had a nice bounce back AFL: 324/435/493/928. For some reason, he just doesn't do well at Brevard, but hits ok elsewhere.
  24. Expected for Scarpetta. Very good news for Rogers.
  25. 2) Is there a "mechanical" reason for that? As a player gets taller, his range decreases or he can't get down on balls as easily? Or just a rule of thumb? It would seem that if YR is an excellent defensive SS right now, adding a couple inches might decrease his SS ability a little, but still end up better than Yunieski... (ok, maybe that wasn't the best example, but...) 3) Since you have seen MM's swing, I'm wondering if there have been some adjustments since he reached AA? He could barely crack .600 OPS at Brevard and below. But then in 2010, he hit around .725 combined in AA and AAA and .809 last year in AA and AAA. I can't imagine his swing in 2010-11 is the same as prior. He is doing something better. I've got to think his chances at being the next Mike Matheny are decent.
