  1. One thing the Brewers should nearly always be looking for are vets that want to sign one year deals to prove themselves. Then succeed, turn down arby and gain draft picks for the Brewers. Of course, only if it fits the team needs. Not sure if Vasquez is that player, but he seems to make sense.
  2. I'm putting it on my Christmas list to Santa this year...
  3. yes, I mean theoretically. I don't think arby deals normally have no-trades. I seriously doubt Fielder wants to one-up his father. I think he just wants to be completely separated from him.
  4. If there was one place for Fielder to block at trade, I'm sure it would have been to Detroit. He has avoided connections to his dad and I'm sure that is all he would hear for the first couple months there.
  5. I'd say no to anyone that isn't named Cliff Lee and is on the Type A FA list (Pavano, De La Rosa, etc..). These "high upside injury guys" just don't work out very much. True, but I wish the Brewers took more shots at least. When they do turn out, these are the players you want to turn into extra draft picks in the next FA season.
  6. The new designs smack of "Twilight." Yeah, "Vampire" was my first thought when looking at the text. Maybe its to appeal to the younger crowd... Although, its OK, if they have the picture of the rattler with it. At least it gets context then. Would be better of they only dropped two letters to make two fangs. But the "TR" Cap without the logo should go...
  7. I had "Johnny Damon, Part God" up at first. Boy, if that isn't a Freudian slip of a secret man-crush, I don't know what is! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Why not just shorten spring training by a month and start in the middle of March... The Twins would really be kicking themselves for not putting a roof on then...
  9. Perhaps trading Braun would be an indication that they would sign Fielder to a long term contract.... As others have said, I can't see both leaving.
  10. Sweet! So fast, he is a blur to the camera! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. Villanueva is another example of a player that Macha buried pretty early on. Stats speak otherwise. Villy buried himself. Averaging 13 innings per month is a pretty good load for a reliever. I was too lazy to look up the couple words I didn't remember. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. A couple years ago, we dropped satellite (including FSN), so no more Brewers games. So this summer, the games I got to see were online when ESPN had them on. Joe Morgan sucked every ounce of enjoyment out watching one of the few Brewer games I saw this year. Lets not talk about the game. Lets not talk about the players. Lets redefine "small market" in terms that no one would agree with, nor even figure out how you came to that conclusion. I admit my exposure to Joe Morgan is a small sample, but in that small sample there was an extreme dose of stupid! And just to level-set my view on announcers, I don't mind Bill Schroeder. There I said it.
  13. If anyone cares, here is the un-translated link I'm no Spanish expert, but it looks like the racist quote was pretty direct: “La verdad (Macha) es muy seco, muy apático, un poco racista, pero eso ya pasó” There were some other comments about Escobar and Gallardo that would have been nice to have translated, also... Compare Coffey to Villanueva. Coffey allowed 5 ER in his first 2 September appearances covering just 2/3 of an inning. He was trotted out there 8 more times. Villanueva on the other hand had scoreless outings on Sept 4th and Sept. 7th but didn't appear in another game until September 29th despite plenty of opportunities to use him. Or it was because Villanueva pitched himself into the minors earlier in the year... I also found it curious that Mike Rivera was sent packing after 2 solid seasons as backup to Kendall (one under Macha), then within a week of Macha's dismissal, he's brought back into the organization. Sent packing as a backup MLB catcher and returned on a MiLB contract off the 40-man. Pretty big difference there...
  14. I'm really surprised. I didn't think that the Brewers gave Dillard much of a chance with all the call-ups from AAA this year that passed him over (some deserved, some less so). I figured he would look for somewhere that would give him a better shot. Glad to have him back.
  15. And the answer to that is: Of course, who isn't? That is what we want in return for Fielder also. Now whether they get it is another matter...
  16. Sorry to double post, but a clearer way to look at it popped in my head. Separating this year and future years: 1) Would you rather have Prince or Casey plus $15M (Guessing on the difference in salary here) on your team for 2011? 2) Would you trade Casey 2012-2014 (Casey's arby years - correct me if I'm wrong) for a 1st/Supplemental or Supplemental/2nd Round draft picks? I would say that Casey has the lower value one both sides (though the first option was closer than I originally thought by adding in the $15M).
  17. Looking closer at Maldonado's history, last year (over .700 OPS at AA and AAA) was the outlier. So he will probably have to do it again at AAA before feeling comfortable that he could do it at the MLB level. Aside from boyish good looks... Do you have a stat to back that up? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

  19. That question seemed a bit absurd, but I wonder if Morris might start at AA this year? Leading to one year at AA, half or full season at AAA (thus at least 1 1/2 seasons). That would clear the logjam of Morris (AA), Dennis (A+) and Hawn (A). Of course, if they are serious about Morris playing 3B, they would go slower with him.
  20. Yeah, I would have thought Rivera's signing would have precluded that. How probable would it be for him to beat out Kotteras to backup Lucroy?

  22. I used to imagine Brett Favre being that nice... I guess I have a big imagination.
  23. Jeffress simply hasn't pitched that much either. At this point, he just needs innings to make it consistent.
  24. Looks like our 40-man roster will soon be down to 32. That seems like more room than usual, but maybe that's just me... With 8 spots to fill, I would think that Peralta, Green, Farris, and Merklinger could all be added pretty easily and still leave room for external roster additions.
