  1. Actually, doesn't this make them younger? He is only 33. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. Orange juice does a body good...pass it on. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Speaking of dealerships, I've heard larger cities (like NYC) will lose maybe 1/3 of their dealerships. They just grew too dense (and I'm speaking proximity, not intelligence, although both may be appropriate). But, Detroit will definitely feel the worst of it. Personally, I think we will see the economy pick up in the next year (housing markets seem to have stabilized/bottomed out already), but the auto industry may take a bit longer. So I doubt we will see a big sell-off by the Tigers. Perhaps if this lingers a year or two...
  4. Any one of the big 3 closing impacts more than just Detroit. GM has already announced their are closing the Janesville factory. Plus the impacts to Indiana, Texas, New York factories and elsewhere... No way does the US allow all 3 to go under, but one may. Ford looks the strongest, GM looks sickly, Chrysler is the weakest. But survive or no, there will be many layoffs in auto factories in the next year. This is not the time to move to Detroit (like anytime would be good?). I work for a Tier 1 supplier to all the automotive OEMs (GM, Chrysler, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai/Kia...). So I get some insight into what is going on. Its not been a fund time this last 4 months... My guess is that just like the Big 3, the Tigers will refuse to make a smart business plan (seeing economic hardships coming), get into trouble financially, then beg MLB to bail them out.
  5. One problem with signing Dunn and trading Fielder... Wouldn't the teams that are a targe for trading Fielder just try to sign Dunn instead? So this would only work if we beat out those teams for Dunn's services. And that normally doesn't favor us. Of course, if the Yanks trade for Fielder, that might interest CC to sign there to reunite with his "mini-me". http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Maybe he doesn't like the park, but really loves our pitching... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  7. I know I've seen trades go down for Rule 5 before, but what do teams normally ask for? Average A-ball player? "Future Considerations"? $50k? Any idea of Guzman's defense? His numbers are comparible to Gamel (although he is a year older), so he wouldn't be a bad option...
  8. Absolutely Plesac should be in the HOF! Of course, since my first Brewer game was watching Don August beat Roger Clemens with Plesac closing the game, that might prejudice my judgements. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif He should be in the Brewer HOF. When do they make those judgements?
  9. Any word on other FAs? Hoffman or Woods? Anyone else declined that might make them more interesting as FAs?
  10. So here's to Brewer's offering arby, Gagne turning it down, Brewers sign Hoffman/Wood, Brewers get compensation pick for nothing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Since Scarpetta only pitched in rookie ball last year, are the Brewers expecting him to climb the ranks fast? Otherwise, why would you expect someone to grab a pitcher that hasn't even seen A-ball yet?
  12. Long shot replacment for Counsell? More likely to replace Mel Stocker...
  13. Long shot replacment for Counsell? More likely to replace Mel Stocker...
  14. Sounds more like a backup plan if Shouse signs elsewhere. Swindle would have more long-term potential, but Shouse would have more now-potential.
  15. Swindle on Nov 25th. Looks like And That was the closest. Congratulations! You win.... bragging rights to next year. Enjoy your prize. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. In the middle, under the play-by-play, select the 6th inning. Under Wright's at-bat, there should be a play arrow to start the video. Unfortunately, the first impression we get of him is giving up a homer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  17. Draft order: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=15580Looks like the Brewers are at #25. So if we sign a Type A, we lose our #25, no matter what else happens. So if the Yanks sign CC (and not Tex) and Rangers sign Sheets (and no one above him), we would get: #24 -Yanks for CC #25 - Brewers - assuming we don't sign a Type A # ?? - Round 1 Supplemental - CC # ?? - Round 1 Supplemental - Sheets # ?? - Round 2 - Rangers for Sheets Thus our 1st Round pick being the highest or near the highest of the picks we may get. Of course the best draft pick scenario is of LA (#16) signs CC and Florida (#17) signs Sheets. Then we would have two mid-round 1st rounders. Not likely, but we can dream... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  18. Also, we aren't signing Sheets and CC both. We will gain pick(s) when we lose them. So, knowing that, are we really losing our first round pick? Or losing one of five first round picks? Not signing Sheets or CC does not guarantee us a 1st round compensation. As someone mentioned, if the Yanks sign CC and Texiera, we get the Yanks' second (and a 1st round supplemental). Or if San Fran signs CC, we get a 2nd + 1st round supplemental. And yes, we do lose our 1st round pick for signing a Type A FA. And chances are, it will be either the highest of our picks or close. edit: sing != sign
  19. If were talking prospects Gamel might work one for one, or start with Jeffress then add on a bunch of very good A level guys including Green or Cain and LuCroy. Isn't that more than we gave up for CC? I don't konw Dejesus, but that is way too much to give up for an inexpensive version of Cameron (per other's description). Seeing that Cain might be a similar player in 2010, that wouldn't make sense at all.
  20. Of course, we are drafting much lower than when we got Al Reyes, Graehme Lloyd, and Jose Mercedes. It will probably be much harder to find a contributor where we draft. But if we get someone, BP is the most likely spot IMO.
  21. I'm still holding out hope that Gamel will spend '09 in AAA and see good improvement in his D, so that he will be a legit 3B defensively. Then maybe '10 or late '09 we would see him with Fielder (and CC http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif) on the field at the same time. I'm just going to step out and say we won't see it (at least in 2009) for an extensive amount of time (ok, I just added two qualifiers to my "bold" prediction). A couple of years ago, with lower expectations and less options, I could see it happening (ala Braun at 3B). And let him learn one the job at the majors. But with expectations higher this year, I don't know if we could take the hit to defense again. Anyone have any data on Braun's D at 3B vs. Gamel's?
  22. Quote from the Jayson Stark article: First off, it's great news for a team such as the Mets, who appear to be the only big-budget shopper looking to plow major dollars into a closer. So the odds of K-Rod's being able to get his rumored price (five years, $75 million) are sinking by the day. "I'd be shocked," said an official of one team in the bullpen market, "if he gets five years at this point." But even if Rodriguez has to scuffle by on a three-year or four-year deal at $13-14 million a year, the good news for him is: At least he's still looking highly employable. If he does take that small of a deal, I doubt he takes it with the Brewers (small market curse), but the article was where I got the idea. No way would I want him at $70-80 million.
  23. We will never see Gamel at 3B with Fielder at 1B. Gamel's defensive weakness seems to be throwing, not glove work (based on other's reports, no first hand witness of my own). Fielder's defensive weakness seems to be picking throws out of the dirt and his height limits what he can get to up high. That seems to be a very bad combination. If Albert Pujols was our 1B, I bet Gamel would be our starting 3B next year. If I'm wrong, feel free to feed me my humble pie. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  24. Yeah, Kerry Wood did cross my mind. Although I'm still a bit leery about the injury situation. Of course it would be sooo sweet to have Wood close the game at Wrigley after Marmol blew a save. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Although rather than "better", maybe I should have said equal, but younger? Would you take K-Rod at the same deal Coco got from the Reds? 4yr-46mil (if my memory serves me right)?
  25. Thanks for taking the time on recapping the 2007 draft too. I read them every year (I've been around since WOAH SOLVDD, but just started posting more recently). I generally watch the high end of the draft (say down to Gindl for '07), but its the low end I always miss. I'll have to add Scarpetta and Hand to my watch list. Scarpetta kind of hit my radar lately anyway because of the 40-man list. Zarraga - yet another catcher prospect? Is it safe to say Jack Z has a gift for catchers? Hopefully that was a strength of his staff and not just him. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I'm really sad to see the DFE system go. Its been so good to us.
