  1. Who would you PH for? Prince is the only regular lefty in the lineup and surely you wouldn't PH for him... And if any of the RH regulars is sitting for some reason, they would be available. You have a good point that we should still have some RH bench players and maybe are over-emphasizing a LH bench, however.
  2. Draft: Right from the beginning there were doubts. Not about the bat, but about the weight and drafting him that high. I believe his first year or two in the minors ended those thoughts and Jack Z was lauded for drafting him there. Talent: I don't think anyone doubts his talents offensively. But would like more improvements defensively. But overall, talent is there. No one questions that. Weight: It will always be something people watch with Prince. It was when he was drafted, it was last ST, it was with his father. I think the whole vegetarian thing wasn't so big of a deal, except that he changed his eating habits and then came into ST overweight. Probably would have done the same eating steak, but people see the two related... Also, because of his weight people wonder how long of a career he will have. Money: Living in a small market with mostly blue collar type workers, I think people generally detest the "show me the money" attitude. Its not that they shouldn't get paid (or even the amount), but the attitude of it all. As others have said with last spring's contract extionsion offer, then complaining about the renewal, he displayed that attitude (I'll get mine). Braun's signing didn't help, since that showed the opposite attitude. Its not the $$, but the attitude about the money. Agent: Who doesn't despise Boras? Why would good Prince deal with the prince agent of darkness? Plus its pretty obvious that the Brewers won't be able to afford him after arbitration is done. For his baseball skills: a top 5 1B with potential for higher. People love that. For his contract status: People realize he won't be here forever and don't like the attitude he has shown, so they cheer for him, but prepare for his departure (thus the trade rumors). I like Prince and I think he will improve. But I also believe we will trade him in the next year, just because we can't afford to let him go for just draft picks (especially if we get CC-ed again).
  3. I'm glad this happened for no other reason than we have avoided two possibly ugly arbitration hearings. Publicly bashing one of your best ball players is a no-win solution. If you break it out as 7M for 2009 and 11M for 2010m it seems fair based on other examples. And there is a pretty low chance Prince will "flame out" this year (basically the only way he doesn't get $10-11M next year). If Prince hits big again, $11M is probably low for next year. And as others have mentioned, they know his price for two years. So for Milwaukee, its a win-win-win.
  4. And yet, they can't shake that Expos mentality...
  5. So if they sign with the Twins, how long before someone calls him GAG-NEE and asks him to play SS?
  6. I think its anytime before that players scheduled arbitration date. I seem to remember some midnight deals preventing past Brewers from going to arbitration the next day.
  7. Score! I'm eligible for the Danish team! Where do I report? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  8. So would that make the Cubs a likely landing spot for Sheets? I only say it so it will decrease the chances of it happening...
  9. Yeah, thats what I meant by a review board assigning supplemental picks. Yanks automatically lose their 2nd, but a review board adds two supplemental 1st rounds (maybe one at the beginning, one at the end of the supp round) to compensate for the 2nd best FA. Where losing Teixeira would gain Atlanta the Yanks 1st and the 1st supplemental pick. Seems more fair that way... edit: added Atlanta to clarify
  10. Well, the Brewers would only lose one pick (their 1st round), while the team that lost the FA would gain two (including the supplemental). The players union had to agree with it, but probably gained somewhere else. No system will be entirely fair to everyone. I think its worse that the Brewers got a second rnd pick (plus supplemental) instead of a first. Seems like MLB would do better to have a review system (like the NFL) to award compensation picks. But that could be the sour grapes talking, too...
  11. http://roadsidephotos.com...ll/Arbitrationresults.htm I found this that listed the Brewers arby cases (and all of MLB up to 2004) at: '78 Johnson - Brewers Lost '91 Gantner - Brewers Won '94 Fetters - Brewers Won '98 Mercedes - Brewers Lost I remember the Gantner and Fetters arby cases because they were kind of ugly (kind of the end of the player's line in Milwaukee). I think Prince's will be worse considering how his contract renewal has gone the past couple years.

  16. Do we expect any of these guys to sign before arby, like Hardy did? I'm doubtful that Prince will, but what about the others? The Brewers seem to put an emphasis on avoiding arby. When was the last guy to go to arby? 5-6 years ago?

  21. Maybe it was just a hanging chad...
  22. It sounds to me that Lawrie has a couple of possible positions he could play well, not that he didn't have a position, so they try him at catcher. We will see, but I'm not too worried about his D until we see him play. Since Gamel and Salome were drafted in the 4th and 5th rounds, they really turned out to be great picks. Great bats, but so-so defense. Personally, I see both with the ability to become average defenders at their positions, so I hope they do have another year (at AAA) to hone their skills. From what I've heard, Gamel's biggest failing is accurate throws to 1B. Sounds like he has a decent glove and range. If both Gamel and Green do make the MLB, you can always move Green back to 2B.
  23. The Branyon MD dew HR was excellent also (well the call was... the video, well you know...) Or maybe it was the HR that made the call good?
  24. The Easter HRs from '87 was my first thought on this also. Would someone with the computer version be willing to share? I would love to have a copy.
