  1. I only see that happening if they can trade away Anderson for somewhat fair value. Just too many bodies otherwise, and you can't or don't want to stash that many of the other guys in the bullpen/minors.
  2. I assume you mean Pina? He took quite a beating last night. Otherwise, I am onboard with more games caught by Manny.
  3. Guerra will be in the pen if he isn't starting. I could see Anderson traded and signing a free agent and going with this: Chacin Free Agent 1 of Nelson/Davies 2 of Woodruff/Burnes/Peralta So as backup plan, you have maybe one of Nelson/Davies and one of Woodruff/Burnes/Peralta. Then you have guys like Guerra and Lyles that have been starters in the pen for insurance. Wilkerson, Derby and Houser as extreme backups. And maybe someone like Z Brown potentially ready at midseason. If there is an issue, I would think we could survive until a July trade for a starter. I don't see trading Davies as you will be selling dirt cheap low.
  4. Our rotation doesn't go deep into games. Can you afford to keep a pitcher that is used for one player with a 25 man roster? Maybe, maybe not. Keon, imo, is mainly on the team to be that pinch runner for late game situations (see Terrance Gore). Keon will also be subbed in defensively in late game situations. Keon is not on the roster for his offense. If the Rockies are not alternating bats, Cedeno may get you two batters or make the Rockies pinch hit and use a bat off the bench and then he gets pulled.
  5. Freddy just pitches fastballs, perfect for Colorado.
  6. He could take the rest of the lineup after the 1st inning and stop at Blackmon. You'd be getting as many innings out of him as you typically do from any LHP reliever. I agree that his roster spot is far from assured though, and I would probably vote against it. Actually, after thinking for a bit, I assume he starts in Colorado. Since he is a ground ball pitcher, save him for that stadium. Is he going to get the same movement though? Wonder how he has done in Colorado before.
  7. This is better than nothing. But don't take it personal if I take your assurances with a grain of salt, as it is your job to downplay any negative..... It is weird, no two ways about it. I assume whatever happened earlier in September, is the same thing that just happened again. Whatever that may be.
  8. Dumb Cardinals should leave Mikolas in. Two games left might as well try for one more game.
  9. 99 pitch mark
  10. I would hope Nottingham gets backup catcher position - so min. wage. If he can't handle it, then you have to find a trade. But, this is unclear considering that Kratz is getting a lot more time than Pina (if Pina is not limited by injury). You basically have to add $2.2M for Jeffress incentives that we assume he will earn. And if you like total accounting, include the Garza payment of $2M. I would actually rather keep Moose at $14M (net cost) versus Schoop at $9-$10M arby amount (assuming Shaw is okay with 2B and the double switches out of game in late situations for defense). I think Moose's defensive advantage on Shaw more than makes up for Shaw at 2B. And I love having another lefty bat. I am assuming that Moose will be at .800 OPS rather than the .770 so far for us.
  11. We are only using the best relievers if we have a chance at the win. I will take the one game coinflip Div Champ chance to bypass the one game coinflip WC to get to a real series.
  12. I would assume some laundering of money to hide the overpay to whoever in the other country to acquire their prospects???
  13. Barring trades sending contracts out, the Brewers are already at $100M without Soria, Schoop, and Moose on next years roster. I do assume they try to trade Anderson and Thames to free up $12M. Shaw may be the only one to get a huge raise in arby, but there are still 8-9 guys that are going to be eligible for arby or get arby raises next year. I assume they keep Lyles for the year at the $1M salary, that is a cheap insurance policy. And keep Albers until at least late March to see if he can return to a decent bullpen option. Yes, I don't see Vogt back on the 40 man roster. I assume retirement. I realize the Brewers probably bring back Schoop (~ $9M arby cost though), but I wasn't sure when the timing of those options mesh with the rule 5 deadline. I assume the options on those contracts have to be exercised before the December rule 5 draft?? Also worried about losing a lefty stick in the lineup if we keep Schoop.
  14. I just went on the Brewers site and there are tickets available for Sunday. I checked a few different price areas and they each had at least two seats.
  15. Rollie Fingers was hurt and wasn't able to pitch in the World series. Had he been able to pitch in those high leverage situations, I still believe to this day we would have won the series. Still hurts to this day. If I remember correctly, he was also unavailable for the ALCS... I am one of the old guys that remembers 1982 (darn Andujar). With Rollie, I think 1982 best. If you want to say because Rollie was hurt, the 2011 team was the best team going into the playoffs - I would agree with that. Even with Marcum laboring as the season closed out. Too bad Roenicke couldn't figure that out. Hindsight 20/20, but I suppose Narveson, Estrada, Wolf weren't much better options. Just seems to me, I would have tried a bullpen game before rolling Marcum out there for a second start.
  16. Looks to me, we could be freeing up to 9 spots on roster. Soria, Miley, Gio, Kratz, Moose, Saladino, Schoop, Grandyman and Suter (yes take that risk). Not sure on the timing of the options for Moose, etc and how they relate to Rule 5 timeline. Would keep: QTC, Supak, Derby, Gatewood, Ponce, Stokes Bubble guys: Bickford, Kirby, Williams, Harber. What would be the deal with Nick Ramirez? I assume he would have to be protected also, right? Or is he so far past this point already, it is more of a free agent, year to year thing?
  17. Burnes has pitched 3 days out of 4. And warmed up before the rain delay and still pitched last night, right? Got to think he is definitely unavailable.
  18. Well I think I'd have rather done a bullpen game in the 2011 playoffs than keep trotting Marcum out there to get toasted each time just because that's the way it's always been in baseball. The team that beat us that year went unconventional pulling their starter early every game. Exactly. I hope we change the reliever 10 times this game. It will still feel like less times than the Cardinals did it in the playoffs against us.
  19. I openly want to see Corbin get the start in one of these games. We don't need him to go 7...just 3-4 innings and I think he's more than capable of going through the lineup once and shutting them down. One of the few confusing decisions by the Brewers this year was to go with Peralta over Burnes...I get it was his spot the first time up, so he didn't have to miss a beat, but Burnes is gonna end up with far fewer innings than last year. He's got TOR stuff and is ready. They wouldn't have pitched Burnes an inning yesterday if they planned to "start" him today. I assume he is in the only if we really need him category for pitching today, after pitching 2 out of 3 games at Pitt.
  20. I was looking at the wrong thing, and had 5 in my head. 6 looks like right number.
  21. Jumping the gun.
  22. Same difference regarding first MLB start. I mean, I get the logic, but that just really, really doesn't seem like a Counsell type move. I think it will be Chacin or Miley, but with a really short leash. Nothing those guy have done this year would make me not trust them in that situation. Is starting a game really that much more pressure-packed than coming in in a 2-2 game in the 7th with the bases loaded? If you know you are starting you have that much time to build up the anxiety. Whereas, if you are in the pen, you do not even know if you are going to pitch that day for sure. At least he would be able to get to sleep.
  23. New to us or brand spanking new? If the City of San Antonio decides to build a stadium, the Texas Rangers will just poach our spot anyways and it would be back to the musical chairs.
  24. Would not having two guys (Cain, Yelich) on the same team take away votes for both? Or is that not an issue?
