  1. Am I the only one that thinks if Braun is actually sprinting from the start, he cuts off that ball and holds the runner to 3rd. Obviously percentage is that his body falls apart if he does. I even replayed it a few times kind of wondering what I was missing. He should have been able to read the hit easily enough.
  2. I'm assuming he won't clear as someone will pick him up. He is better than what some teams have out there and he is cheap.
  3. Well one benefit of losing, it was done on the road. Saved an inning of bullpen pitching every night. If they can keep spreading the workload because there is no weak spot, maybe they can keep up close to this pace.
  4. LOL...actually Darvish is virtually untouchable his first time thru the lineup. 2nd time: not so much... 3rd time: HR Derby time. Teams hitting over .600 3rd time thru. You just came here to jinx us big time with these type of comments.
  5. 5IP - 2R - 5H - 1BB - 3K But he sucks. You actually undersold him! Great. That'll gave CC the ammo to say "I told you so" and give him three more starts of craptastic pitching. I'd rather be running Woodruff out there and send Suter down to stay stretched out. But, if that means we don't just hand Miley a starting spot for a month and a half regardless of how he pitches, I can be almost be okay with this.
  6. Yeah, I think teams that are not in the playoff chase this year are not going to be targeting a Broxton. They would want to roll the dice for a younger player that has more upside, but may never even make it to the majors. I could see Broxton traded if another team needed someone (4th OF, CF injured) now as they were still competing and they trade someone that would improve upon our 2B/C.
  7. Why would Sogard go to the minors? Since the Brewers are picking up the tab, I would bet that some team would put him on their 25 man roster at the prorated minimum wage.
  8. Versatile? He really should never play OF as he is not good, and is too injury prone. He is below average 1B. I like him, but lets not stretch things.
  9. I assume some bridges were probably burned when Nashville spurned us and we got stuck in CS ??...
  10. 2017: In 26 AA innings against lefties, he had a whip of 1.13 and they had an ave. of .167 In 52 AA innings against righties, he had a whip of .96 and they averaged .215
  11. I assume you are trying to be funny, just letting you know the attempt came up short.
  12. I think Davies went from a 6.75 ERA to a 4.84 ERA today.
  13. Milwaukee catcher OPS is 16th best in the majors (.003 from 14th place). The catching position really isn't the downfall, lots of teams have catchers that can't hit. Shortstop and 3B are the biggest negatives when compared to the league.
  14. I may have missed it, but did someone actually do this? I saw most compare Hader to Sale...in a round about way, not sure of Phillips to Sale. Sorry if I missed it. I assume he was joking that the Phillips thread was twisted into a Hader/Sale thread.
  15. Not even trying Hader as a starter so we can lock down the 6/7/8 innings the next few years is awful use of him and resources in general. It’s much harder and more expensive to fill the rotation than build a bullpen. Even just 160-175 innings of ~4 ERA out of Hader in the rotation is more valuable than whatever he does in his ~60 or so innings out of the bullpen. Plus we already know what he can do out of the pen and we aren’t winning a WS this year, might as well try him as a starter. He can always go back to the pen if he’s a disaster. Yeah but those 75 innings of bullpen work he'll get this year will probably be 65 innings of high leverage situations. His 165 innings of starter will be 100 innings of high leverage situations?.... Plus we aren't going to assume 2.0 ERA type performance as a starter, which we will get from him out of the bullpen. That difference in the sense of games won and lost, doesn't seem material. So I would stick with what I know works, until Guerra, Woodruff, Suter and crew have beaten all hope to a pulp.
  16. I like in the blog where he wrote https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/03/the-inner-monologue-of-dimtillard-springed.html 7:14am It’s difficult to get and keep a job in baseball. ...… but also setting aside time every day to guilt trip them with pictures of my three kids.
  17. If you can't listen on over the air radio, you have to pay the MLB to listen online.
  18. Needs to hit and reduce errors. Errors aren't everything, but being first in the league certainly is a bad title to have. His 20 were 8 more than third place. While looking that up I saw we had the most errors "leaders" at three positions: Broxton, Arcia, Villar. Do they track errors per "attempt"? So if you get to more balls you have more chances for an error. Just curious. Depends if you just look at the counting stat. Normally they look at fielding percentage that would take attempts into account.
  19. I'm Late: 2018 Brewers Season Predictions Win-Loss Record: 83-79 Playoffs (Yes, No): No Offensive Player of the Year: Lo Cain Pitcher of the Year: Anderson Most Surprising Player (at least to most): Suter Most Disappointing Player: C. Yelich (not bad, just disappointing this year, before a huge year next year)
  20. What I want to know is how much "rest" is a guy with the day off really getting? They are still coming to the ballpark at the same time, sitting out under the sun shagging balls, getting their practice at bats, stretching, have to be ready to pinch hit, etc, etc, etc. Now if you told them not to come to the ballpark, then I could see that as a real rest.
  21. It's spring training. Who cares about their numbers. In the case of Thames, if I was GM, I would. I don't think he has enough of a book to just assume what his production level is going to be. I would like to know how much, if any, of last April I could expect this year. If you assume you are going to get May-August Thames, with his defense, I don't think he has any positive value over his contract. His September was very good, but I believe he was also more platooned. And that is the way I would look at him - the heavy side of the platoon that I would match up with a righty bat that had more defense that I could also sub in at the end of games.
  22. I scanned the thread and didn't see. Do we have the book on Choi's defense? I assume better than Thames/Aguilar?
  23. I'm a "financial guy" too, and the only way I know how to do this would be to fund the liability with a corresponding asset that is appreciating at the level of inflation plus any interest earned in the deferral. Otherwise, the deferred payments have to either come out of future earned revenue or be borrowed. By "operating budgets," are you assuming that the Brewers will pay deferred money out of non-payroll expenses like concessions? That would seem odd. Deferred contracts mean that future payrolls will be less than they could be if the deferrals were not present. The payroll may be higher in five years than it is today, but if there is deferred money involved, it is lower than it could have been if the deferred money wasn't there. There's really no other way around it. I'm an accountant and this is not rocket science (would any rocket scientists think accounting is hard?). The tax reporting books will have a deferred liability from year earned. So they time the deductions so that they are not rollercoastering the net income and net loss for owner tax reporting. NBD. So the biggest issue is cash flow. I assume quite a bit of non-payroll planning is coordinated with player deferred payments. Last year not as much deferred payroll, so we can fund the concourse improvements. This year is maybe mostly taken up by deferred payroll. Next year, when deferred payroll goes down to $2.0M, they will pay for the brunt of the spring training facility (haven't read on timeline of project), etc. Just to give some very simple examples.
  24. I have ARam $3.0, Krod $2.0, Lohse $2.33, Garza $2.0 Deferred salaries are an important tool to use when negotiating salary. Because I think alot of the agents want the biggest dollar total to publicize. So if you want to get the agent on your side, give them that big total, but defer the crap out of it. I am talking about the non-interest earning deferments obviously. As a financial guy, I'm sure Mark A and crew have no problem budgeting properly so that tomorrow is not unduly paying for today. I'm sure the Brewers operating budgets is detailed for many years out.
