  1. I agree with everything above, Jungmann and Peralta not being Johnson fault, Guerra and Davies are not his success (up till injury), Garza is Garza. I was thinking that Anderson could just be park effect coming from the west division parks, so took a look, and his home era is 4 and road is 6, but exactly the same whip and average allowed. So not really a park effect to blame, still would obviously be better pitching in Los Angeles, etc. I did think we were trading for his best, prime year this year and would get a 3.75 type era performance. What would be really nice to know is what Nelson is. Is he the pitcher from the end of June through July or the guy since that? Or he just going to be up and down and end up around a 4.00 era type of guy a majority of his career? It would be nice if Johnson can work some magic with Anderson and Nelson.
  2. Like AIG? They are still around, eh. I should have said the insurance companies are pretty good at actuarial and time value of money transactions (insurance type of functions), which is what they would be using to negotiate a release of contract provisions. The too big to fail companies try to act like banks/investment banks and got in trouble, right?
  3. Non tender? Come on... There would probably be a good handful of teams wanting Gennett. Rickie Weeks(no offense to him. Love him) still has a job and Gennett is better. Gennett has trade value. I think Gennett has trade value now. But unless he has a better hitting year in 2017, I don't see much surplus value over his arby costs come 2018. So I can see a scenario where he is not tendered a contract for 2018 by whoever has his rights at the end of the 2017. I assume the Brewers trade him for whatever the best deal is before 8/1/17. That 2018 cost is much more than what Weeks costs this year, when you are comparing circumstances of how Weeks has a job versus Gennett's value.
  4. Insurance companies aren't dumb when it comes to finances. If they negotiate with the ballclub to save a percent on what they were obligated to pay on the disability contract, I'm sure they can come to some agreement to release that provision, if it is even in there.
  5. After reading Mass Haas post on restrictions (not being able to give economic incentives), I don't see ever getting out of Colorado Springs.
  6. You forgot high A ball. As a high schooler it will be slower up the chain also. I assume Clark would start next year in Appleton and hopefully have some confidence hitting before it is ripped away down in Florida.
  7. Will Torres even clear waivers? I assume some team will pick him as they want him or to block another team - but won't give full value. I was surprised he wasn't traded at the deadline, which means I assume Stearns planned on paying the arby to keep him next year. If he is $950K this year, can I assume arby would be $1.5M?
  8. That is just it. Many of these guys aren't improving from the first half or are getting worse. At least it seemed like it when I was putting my top 25 list together. When you punch in the splits button, guys like Nottingham and Phillips are freefalling for second half splits.
  9. I don't think they get much more than what they got for Hill. So they keep him until his pricetag is more than what willing to pay, then ship him off for what they can get. So I assume they keep him for 2017, and the first year arby price. Not sure about after that though.
  10. the roster is currently at 39. if at 40, domingo santana could likely be transferred to the 60-day disabled list to open up a spot. So could Houser. So there is plenty of room. I assume there is advantages to not automatically throwing players on the 60 man DL unless you absolutely need their spot, but I forget what they are.
  11. Surprised Goforth got called up....30 walks 31 K's at AAA...Surprised Scahill or Magnifico didn't get a chance. Goforth sucks, give someone else a shot. I could see this as the Brewers giving Goforth his one last shot to retain a 40 man roster spot going into the offseason. Magnifico is two years younger and will get his shot. Scahill actually hasn't done as well as Goforth at AAA.
  12. 1. Hader 2. Arcia 3. Ortiz 4. Brinson 5. Bickford 6. I.Diaz 7. Clark 8. Phillips 9. Ray 10. Diplan 11. Woodruff 12. Erceg 13. Lopez 14. Ponce 15. Lara 16. Peralta 17. D. Williams 18. Nottingham 19. Burnes 20. M. Diaz 21. Kirby 22. Cooper 23. Harrison 24. Medeiros 25. Magnifico 26. Wang Reserve right to change up until you close it out.
  13. Service time is never moot until he has the years in to be a free agent. If you do an extension with more arby years left, you will get a discount from the player (he is getting financial security), as you are further out from free agency and you are buying out less free agent years. Do you think a five year extension would cost the same for a player that is one year away versus two years away from free agency? No, the player that is further away from free agency is going to get less.
  14. This is exactly what I would have done. Look see in September, bring up fulltime in May. Throwing away a year of Arcia with the Brewers. The only benefits to this, that I see, is we will definitely know how Villar and Perez will do at 3B and OF after they play those positions basically the last two months of the season. Though many casual fans may not know Arcia enough to buy tickets, but when they watch the telecast they will be told over and over again how he is the next wave of guys to bring the Brewers back to winning ballgames. So I do think it is a move to keep fans happy.
  15. I think that is assumed (especially if JJ is in deal), and people are moving on to the other parts.
  16. Torres has very quietly had a very good season, and has been ultra hot lately. I think the Brewers still have arby rights. But it would seem at 33 that he would get traded, right? I don't think he clears August waivers. Whip below 1.00 last 15 games.
  17. There is no way that Lucroy isn't traded this offseason if he isn't traded this week. He isn't going to sign another deal with the Brewers, so they aren't going to go through 2017 and just get the one QO pick. So he gets traded during the offseason, so whoever trades for him, knows they at least can get the qualifying offer pick for him as worst case scenario.
  18. I don't see a total collapse, unless Davies and Guerra hit an innings wall. I just think our roster is 80% young guys that aren't established major leaguers that are not going to let up as they are fighting to stay on the roster for this year or fighting to cement a job for next year. The only positional veterans are Braun and Carter and Carter is playing for that next contract. And then I glanced at the schedule and it really isn't that bad the next month. Once you eliminate Peralta, Jungmann, and eventually Garza from the starting staff, there may even be an uptick if we get someone to surprise from AAA.
  19. Four teams solidly below us and four teams close to our vicinity in the standings. I'm sure if Nelson or Guerra are traded away we could end up folding, but otherwise I think we could hold together for close to a .400 clip even if Lucroy and a couple of bullpen guys are traded.
  20. Who is the next guy that Brewerfan should talk about getting rid off? Maybe start ripping on Carter, so he can hit a hot streak?
  21. Like there aren't a half dozen guys that they could DFA to make room now? The "now" isn't the issue. By cutting KN you would have a spot. You are looking at the 40 man roster management as for what it will look like after trades (may acquire more 40 man players then trade away) and later what you need to have available to protect your minor leaguers and what you would like to have available to pick up outside talent. So the question is, does Wren have to be put on the 40 man roster this offseason to retain him?
  22. Actually Carter isn't a free agent until 2019. Not that the Brewers will necessarily want to pay the arby rate in 2018. I could see him on the block more if there was an obvious replacement, but the Brewers have no motivation to move him for nothing now.
  23. Ditto to all the above. I am done with KN, and there is no way he is going to generate any trade interest. At least Flores is 4.5 years younger and maybe has a chance to improve. I would bring up Wren, but only if that isn't going to cause any 40 man roster issues now or in the offseason. Broxton can be brought up and given the rest of the season to prove something, even if he doesn't do anything we can cross him off the list then at least. Wren is actually one year younger than Broxton.
  24. But I'm sure the Brewers are still hoping that Garza pitches average enough they could subsidize him to another team by the waiver deadline.
  25. Definitely wouldn't count Covey as a red mark on the ledger. Didn't they pick up a 1st rounder the following year to replace him. I wouldn't count that pick as part of the hit/miss percentages.
