  1. Probably, but not necessarily. Now the only teams interested are teams that are in the playoff hunt and that have a hole at catcher and don't have other needs that trump that need and have the prospects that line up with what the Brewers want. During the offseason, more teams could become involved as they have time to arrange the roster as they see fit and Lucroy could be that piece they want. Plus they would still have the QO in the back pocket. Who knows what team will pull a Padres or Diamondbacks and try to go all in.
  2. http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/knuckleball-news/rays-trade-cash-jaye-chapman/ This article thinks we don't get anything of consequence. I assume Chapman would be up when Torres, Boyer and others were moved. Then I assumed he would be up for at least the three cheap years. I assume the PTBNL is if he get so much time on the Rays major league roster. Chapman seems like he had more value than a maybe bottom wrung prospect. Or was Chapman not doing well for Colorado level of pitching?
  3. I assumed he was still going wherever the Brewers go. Is he actually joining the Skysox? davies has to physically report to the city that the sky sox are playing in within three days of being optioned. Even if the Brewers don't really care? I guess I was fine with this if Davies just stayed in Milwaukee and did his normal routine other than suit up (short CS roster by one for that long). But if he actually has to go on the road in AAA, then I am thinking I wouldn't have done it.
  4. They would have to at least throw in what in Arizona was sending to the Brewers. This was brought up in a thread weeks ago. And it seemed the thought at that time was the team could do whatever they want with that money. Do you know otherwise for sure? In other words the Brewers could keep the Arizona money AND the Red Sox could pay his full (prorated) contract. Not that that was the case here, but just wondering for general reference.

  6. Maybe this article would help? http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/187910104/brewers-sign-chad-mcclanahan-for-12-million/
  7. You know he is at least going to pitch out of the pen before he is outright cut. So until some relief pitchers are traded away, for 40 man roster reasons Garza is going to start. But chances are he gets at least another half dozen starts before any move is made, just too much money to not try otherwise, and there is no one in Colorado resembling someone that can do better. Soon to be 29, it would be nice to give Burgos all of August and September, just to know if it is time to cut ties or not.
  8. Did the Orioles intend/try to resign Parra? I guess the Orioles may have paid more for Parra, with the thought in mind to help sign him in free agency. In that case Parra is younger, so I would say Parra brought back more than what Hill would bring. If the Orioles had no intention of signing Parra long term and he was just a rental, then he would probably be about as comparable to Hill in value as you can get. Parra was hitting .328 with an .886 OPS when we traded him, so I'd say he was probably more valuable than Hill is at this time. Obviously, not as good as a full season - but those stats are almost exactly what Hill is batting if you take April off from his stats.

  10. I don't think Smith, who turns 27 in less than a week, will be around for when we turn it around. He will be 2nd year of arby next year and the Brewers aren't competing next year either. I am not giving him away, but I am not turning down a fair deal. And you would get more for him now then in the offseason. That said, I hope the Brewers keep at least two of Thornburg, Jeffress, and Smith for next year.
  11. Without Guerra coming up when Jungmann was being destroyed and Davies turning it around in May, any type of competent season would have started circling the toilet by the middle of May, and been totally flushed by the end of May.
  12. You can only discern anything from where Louisville played him is if you thought the Cardinals CF they did play during the season wasn't that good defensively. Then you could question why Ray wasn't played there and wonder if that meant a deficiency on his part. But Louisville could easily have a guy that was a better defensive CF, they were a top team during the year, that doesn't mean that Ray also couldn't end up being an average MLB CF.
  13. I always wondered about this. Technically is Arizona's payments tied directly to Hill and they go whereever he goes? I guess I assume the Brewers are paying the full Hill contract and the money Arizona paid them is on the side. So if the Brewers trade Hill, just for examples sake, they could trade him and the other team would have to pay the full (no Arizona money) prorated-remaining contract for this season. Now obviously the Brewers are going to kick in money to get a better prospect, but can anyone confirm how that money is handled if the player is again moved?
  14. No matter how much I would tear my hair out whenever we had a Blanco or Moeller hitting .200, in general I still wouldn't sink a lot of money into the catching position. Over and above the usual off days, the position just has more injuries than other positions, and I feel you should look to spend your money on other positions that you will get more games/at bats out of.
  15. I would say that his contract is somewhat under market value even after considering his risks (peds, various injuries). If he had no ped history and he was pretty clean on injuries he would be very much under market price. If he were declared a free agent today, he would get more than what his current contract calls for, and that is after I, as a GM, assume he will suck one season due to some type of injury cropping up. So that means there is value to trade on, and substantially more if the Brewers eat some of his contract in a trade. I don't think the Brewers get back an elite talent that is in AA or higher in the minors, without paying quite a bit of Braun's contract and having good competition from teams that want him, possibly from only his trade-allowed list.
  16. That health insurance for life probably trumps the $34,000 pension. I assume it is a high deductible plan, and may be a bare bones type of deal since it would have to cover nationwide - but probably still nice to bank on.
  17. The Dodgers already released Crawford and ate his contract. Oops Casey said that already.
  18. My Current top 10: 1. Lucroy 2. Nelson 3. Arcia Drop off 4. Braun - someone will want him if he can play for another month of .850 ops. 5. Villar - another couple of months and this will jump 6. Davies 7. Jeffress - proven that the closer role doesn't bother him 8. Thornburg 9. Smith - needs more innings before teams will be confident to acquire 10. Santana - Could be Carter if he has another hot streak sooner than later
  19. If the Brewers don't put him on the 25 man roster, and offer him back, can't the Twins stash him in AAA if they have the 40 man roster spot?
  20. Now you are really tempting fate. I remember thinking there is no way that our starting pitching can be worse than last year. The first however many weeks of the season they were. Well Peralta was giving us five sucky innings an outing, Garza may suck and only pitch four innings of suckitude, leading to the bullpen getting fried (no Capuano for multiple garbage innnings). So I am hoping they either let him pitch and suck "deep" into games, or don't let him suck for two months in the rotation.
  21. I saw posts regarding college OPS, but didn't see average, which I think may have more correlation?.... Does a .320 ACC college batting average (ignore babip for now) correlate to a .285 batting average guess for the pros? I don't follow this so I don't know, but it would seem that .285 would be generous of what to expect.
  22. You can't force something that maybe isn't there (yet). First you have to find a playoff contender that needs a catcher. Then you need that team to value Lucroy in line with what the Brewers want. Then the teams still have to agree that the value of the individual prospects that are being moved equates to that value. The Dodgers may say this prospect is a top 25 prospect and the Brewers are thinking he is more like a top 75 type guy and they need more.
  23. There are no rules where a player is clearly this great that he has to be brought up. There are the rules with how long before you have them before you have to protect on the 40 man and then the 25 man roster to retain them, that is the only protection for a minor leaguer that I know of. As for bringing up Arcia if we were contenders, to tell the truth, how do we know that if we moved Villar right now off from SS that won't effect his hitting? Plus, I don't think we can assume that Arcia will be able to hit a darn, at least to begin with, and not more than what Hill will give us this year. So if we were playoff contenders I actually would not assume he would be brought up. He isn't a hitter like Braun, his best value is defense and that isn't that much more valuable over Villar to make that kind of change.
  24. I'm assuming alot of Braves brass saw him at Georgia Tech and someone asked to see if they could spend a few euros to acquire him to see if they can jumpstart his career.
  25. If they claim him they have to put him on their 25 man roster, right? I would think that would be funny watching a playoff contender pitching Peralta. That would be worth the price of losing him. Back to the original question, I would assume Peralta to the bullpen and Garza to the starting lineup. For better or worse if no one else gets DL'd, Barnes is in the yoyo position, right - so he would go down. Barnes can come back up once they shed Torres and Boyer in July.
