  1. Another "error" on the fielder as DiTuri throws to Bitonti's right again, and man he should have had it. Hernandez rolling again. Hit 90 mph on the radar gun once. Mostly 87-89 and breaking stuff high 70s to 81-82
  2. First. Ebel looks like he can handle SS. The few games I have seen he makes routine plays. Tonight a nice grab in the hole and a strong enough arm to make it. Second, the ump is not liking the Mudcats style I guess. He gave like 4-6 inches on the outer half against DiTuri. Then this inning a lot of high strikes on big breaking balls, and OK. But then he calls Encarnacion on a pitch inside. Then a low strike to Anderson. I mean OK, but you can't have top of zone, both corners and bottom of zone expanded all of a sudden.
  3. Man I love watching this. They are just making the pitchers work - similar to early season relentless mudcats. Taking balls, and fouling off pitches. The first pitcher was out of the game at 56 pitches after 2.2 IP The relieve is at 38 in the 3rd inning at 0.2 IP and is out. That is nearly 100 pitches thrown in 3 innings!! That approach will get you wins. Love it keep it up boys
  4. Man Melvin was cruising in the 2nd, got two Ks and made them look bad. No audio bottom of 2 either 🙄 Then a bunt single by Willits. And a grounder to third and Lameda rushed the throw up the RF line a bit, but Bitonti you gotta get that. Sure maybe it takes you off the bag, but rather 1st/2nd, then 2nd/3rd. Hernandez gets a deep fly out. He is efficient, only tripped up by a bunt single and an error through 2.
  5. I started the Mudcats game from the beginning. The first thing I noticed was the eye and patience. Drawing walks, hitting the ball and fouling off pitches, and they get the starter to 56 pitches in the 2nd inning when Bitonti chases him out with a big double - a flare hit down the LF line. He and DiTuri had identical doubles. BItonti fouled off like 5 pitches in a row.
  6. I agree, but I feel this is more like the 2018-2020 playoff teams, and you go with whoever can get you 4-5 innings reliably, and use a guy like Miz and Hall for 1-2 innings a few times, like what we did with Hader and Woody in 2018. At least this team has more than 1 reliable true SP. But this is not Burnes-Woodruff-Peralta-Lauer/Ashby of 2021, but that team had zero offense. If the offense on this team can stay relevant, then it is on the pitching to get into form. This offense is nowhere near as dangerous as 2018, but it is better than 2021/2023, and the pitching is much better than any run outside of 2021 (that staff was elite)
  7. Short answer is no This is what many who have been following him for the past few years have seen. Outside of a few stretches, he can have command issues, or blow up innings. His start to this season and beginning to his MLB career have been great and show a glimmer of hope that he can do this. But right now he is just way to off and unpredictable. A long relief (2-3 innings) in September and October would be great.
  8. And the Mudcats take a 5-0 lead. Woo hoo. (but I hope they don't mirror the big club and give away the lead right away, yes I know but my PTSD with blown leads is too strong recently 😩)
  9. I know it was just one game last night, but boy that was the most muted minor league thread in a while. I know I was bummed after the minor league weekend outcomes, and the 2 bad losses by the Brewers. I would love a Mudcat resurgence this week to force my hand (or my eyes/interest specifically). I will take a great final rush by the T-Rats who with all that star power seem to be just middling. Thanks Daniel for at least putting the highlights up of the game yesterday!
  10. I was just looking at Manuel’s stats. He has had an almost identical year statistically as last year, despite being 19 for most of the season and pitching in high A. That’s close to being an 18-19 year old hitter given the fact that pitching usually lags a year behind in average age. His K rate is up this year even if the walks are up. IP/start down but that’s also a function of his mid year injury. If his velocity can get to 90-91 average he is a legit pitching prospect, and if he gets above 92 mph he can become a top end talent in this system with his control, feel and understanding of how to pitch.
  11. Funny but about a month ago it was Made we were “worried “ about after his July slump. i think Made ended those doubts for now. Peña playing in August and bumped up a level after an incredibly solid and consistent first full season in Carolina. I’ll give him a lot of latitude. Its not often that 18 year olds play in high A - let alone two of them on the same team.
  12. 7-2 Shuckers now trail. I mean this month has been so difficult to watch for the affiliates. Not a lot of offense, pitching has been actually pretty good, but bullpens have been so unpredictable and the defense and mental game has been off at times (also doesn't help having so many young players and some playing out of their natural positions) Still. Cruel Summer indeed
  13. Shuckers are falling behind again. Cooper Pratt with a 2-run double. His August has been really really good. He is an even month player (April, June and August were all great; but his May and July splits were brutal). Alcantara loads the bases, then HBP and now a walk. Still only 1 out, and bases still loaded. 🙄
  14. Well the sounds won. 10-0. Nice outing by Patrick and Tyler Black - is this a blip or the beginning of him bringing relevant again? Ask me in a few weeks. Shuckers spoiled some timely hits by Burke, and a nice start by DeBerry - but his pitch count limited his impact on De Game ultimately. And Dubanewicz (who along with DeBerry and Dorchies as 2024 draft picks are looking promising) had great start also foiled not by a bullpen (Renz another ‘24 pitcher) but an anemic offense. And I’m not sure what is going with the T-Rats. Fischer is hitting decently enough, and Made seems to have transitioned well. Dinges is there and getting some big hits. But not enough good pitching ( I mean other than Birchards no-hit 7 innings the other night), not enough hitting, and man that outfield has Tayden Hall, Luiyin Alastre, Daniel Guilarte and now Josh Adamczewski playing (along side true OF Nicasia). Anyhoo. Some good stuff tonight. Not enough wins. And the Mudcats playoff hopes are just fading daily. See you tomorrow.
  15. Ok Nashville cruising for now. Patrick 5 shutout innings. Shuckers lost the first game as noted earlier. Up 1–0 mid-way through game 2. I’ll check in later.
  16. Hey I go to check the other scores and I missed another Blake Burke HR!! Wow he is staying hot in AA.
  17. Crazy play in Wisconsin as River Bandit hitter flies out to right center and Alastre has it …. Go off his glove 😳 But Nicasia gets to it and throws to Made who rifles to Peña and they get the force at second. Yup - you’re standard.9-8-6-4 force out. Just like they drew it up wild play. And Cruz gets the next batter to end the inning. T-Rats still down 5-2 I will watch the next half inning but may call it a night.
  18. And that is how the season goes. 2-out walks by Lameda and Holguin, the Walther RBI single. But Payne Ks.
  19. Well TRats give up a run right back. 😔 After Dinges cut the lead in half, now it’s 5-2 after a HBP, SB, single. And Carolina wasting a very solid effort by Dubanewicz and Renz. 3 R, only 1 ER, and 10 K to no walks! The pitching overall (starters at least) have been solid for Carolina. Offense and bullpen are the reason they are not able to take control of the playoff position. Down 3-1 with 2 outs in the 9th.
  20. Dinges - big fly to RF. 2-run Dinges Dinger!
  21. That Mudcat offense is well …. Offensive😉 Seriously though tough sledding. I really am starting to have doubts about Bitonti, who is 0-3 with 3 K tonight. Payne has been battling something parts of the year so hard to know with him. And DiTuri - bank on a good first half, but expect he will disappear in the second half. Rest of the team is new to Carolina (no playing time there last year, and not on opening day roster except may Rodriguez and/or Lameda?)
  22. Great catch @Sugarrayray. My eyes just read it as “cavalry” but don’t worry the cavalry is here to help up avoid ending up at the Calvary. Solid night of pitching by Gasser (again have to give a mulligan for rehab starts as we don’t know if he was told to pitch certain pitches to make sure he can do what is needed) but a sight for sore eyes as Carlos F - whose stat line looked more reminiscent of his April version. If he can get some solid appearances this September it will help Nashville this year and the big club possibly next year. Mudcats - do I give them credit for being so young and holding on? Or critique them for not having the offensive consistency? It’s tough to know. I didn’t see last night’s game, but the past couple of weeks there have been so many at bats where the hitters appear overmatched or just chasing pitches and nit lining up the mistakes. Mr DelChiaro can hopefully help a few of them out in the offseason I hope.
  23. @Jake McKibbin - ignorance here on my part. What are the red flags? I assume average EV is one, right? but what else as I’m still trying to I understand these (the pitching charts are way way over my feeble head) And this is the whole AAA season - I wonder if things like EV have some splits since he was up then hurt and back again and seems like those things are much better the past 30,days or so. or anyone can chime in to help this old man understand.
  24. Sam Garcia with runs allowed in consecutive innings, gives up a 1-out double. Then gets a pop up after falling behind 3-1. Next batter 3 pitch K. For his 9th K in 4 innings of relief. Wow 9 of 12 outs via the K. Unfortunately for the hits and 2 runs. But still best outing I’ve seen from him in a while.
  25. Encouraging outing by Carlos Rodriguez with 4 innings of hitless, scoreless relief to seal the 5-4 win.
