  1. good for Quero this is exciting, but what the heck with the hand injuries. It has been all these weird injuries - the labrum tears (Nelson, Quero, and was Mitchell a labrum too?) and now it's the hand (Contreras last year, and now BOTH Chourio and likely Vaughn). C'mon can we catch a break please. I tell you March/April is mixed with such anticipation AND gut wrenching disappointment with the injury news (last year it was every starting pitcher and I think their neighbors were hurt too), this year it is Priester, Henderson, Chourio, Vaughn already....
  2. Well he signed a bunch. Back then it was more of a quantity over quality idea as they were trying to establish in the LA market. I still remember the first international FAs that I read about in the late 1990s or was it 2000 - Cristian Guerrero who was Vlad”s cousin, and Hector Garcia. Neither panned out but the team did sigh a bunch, and then tried a few high dollar signings I have to look it up, and then more recently in the past 10 years it has been a quality and quantity approach and going to Venezuela and Panama and Nicaragua to the regions that were not already “owned” by the Yankees/Dodgers etc. i think the approach of quality and quantity, the solid presence in DR, Venezuela and other places, the investment into scouting and the facilities have put the Brewers on a far better place for the IFA market than the 2000s or most of the 2010s.
  3. @Jim Goulart thanks for trip down memory lane. I fondly and vividly remember those Power 50 days - and the link report - and scribbling my “projected” line up in year + 2. This was the only way a fan from out of town could really follow the brewers and the system back then. You and Toby and (I had to look it up) Patrick Eberts draft previews and reviews (of which I still have the 2003-2004 reviews printed out somewhere in my files) and I’m missing a few. But Anyway back to the present and future… And what a sight for sore eyes. A minor league link report. Minor leagues baseball is back again. Bummer of a loss but a fun start for Gasser and Lara and Pratt.
  4. And old friend Enoli Paredes the winner despite giving up the HR to make it a 4-0 lead right before the Sounds give up a 6 run inning to lose the lead.
  5. Welp I see the biedergb curse is on at mid-season form lol. Great start, but the AAA bullpen, yikes. Follow Gasser's lead, and note what the big league pen did, but Waguespack and Peralta give away the lead. Now Childers is in - maybe a prospect will get the pitching back on track.
  6. So Gasser sees Miz going 5 IP with 11 K and says, "oh that's what you need to do to be in the bigs, well...." That may be among the best SP opening day starts for MIL MLB/AAA, and two young arms doing it as well is awesome. Fun start.
  7. I just noticed, that it is Quero with Rodriguez (and Nava as the 3rd C). So neither Miller nor Wood will be in AAA to start the year, so I suspect they both start at AA, which pushes Dinges back to A+? Still a prospect laden starting staff, and the roster has more real prospects than in years past with Pratt, Williams, Wilken, Adams, Lara and Quero. That's 4-5 starting pitchers, and likely 5-6 positional players each day. Very very nice
  8. Looking a lot like Jett Williams and/or Tyler Black will be in the OF to start the year given the crowded IF and the only OF listed as Jones and Lara. Lara will man CF for sure, so it will be RF or LF for Jett and Tyler I suspect, unless E. Leonard will play in the grass. Rotation is likely Rodriguez, Henderson, Drohan, Gasser with Kuehner, Rom, Crow as the likely 5th option depending on how they want to develop Kuehner and Crow now. They typically have one vet in the rotation, although at this time point C. Rod may be that AAAA vet.
  9. dang Langhorne, I really had hopes for him as a possible reliever prospect, alas... And Gonzalez - injuries in your teen years is so much more difficult to come back from, good luck Aldrin.
  10. I thought they X-rayed it and it was just a soft tissue injury and he continued to play. Sheesh, I mean did they not due their diligence on this - wonder if the Brewers trainers/doctors were involved at first or just the Venezuela national team. Probably a small fracture that needed CT or MRI to diagnose if the prior explanation of "Xray were negative" at the beginning was accurate.
  11. Ah joseph - perfect! I look forward to the upcoming minor league season my friend.
  12. Isn’t that like Corey Hart - wasn’t he Jon Corey Hart or did I make that up - obviously I can look it up but didn’t. If so I’d love Adams to be Hart 2.0
  13. Dang it. Yes I do. Let’s go with ryan Birchard - moves to bullpen and can zoom up.
  14. i'm guessing Biloxi had a different starter today? or was the trade after he pitched??
  15. I guess good for KC Hunt, as he will get a chance to pitch. Brewers will have so many young near MLB ready pitchers that Hunt and others will get lost in the mix. But dangit, Shane Smith and KC Hunt as undrafted signees were so much fun to watch in '23 (and '22 for Smith as well). Now both are gone.
  16. Did I miss any updates on Cornell, Tobias and Timmerman here?
  17. Ugh. No 😩 I knew about Flores. But was hoping Rudy would be healthy and hoping Griffin Tobias was not serious but I’m guessing he had a serious elbow injury at the end of last year? I don’t recall hearing or seeing anything on him but may have missed it. And Corniel, Smith and Timber an still being out stinks.
  18. OK, there is a race on to see who is the better prospect names "Braylon".... Mr. Owens and Mr. Payne, you know your assignments. ;)
  19. I think he can keep starting, more innings and experience will help him even if he goes to the bullpen. But I agree he does scream future late inning reliever with a potentially high velo arsenal.
  20. I don't know if that is known yet. He was a starter prior and there were reports that if he played in MIL it would be in the pen to limit his innings and utilize his CB/FB combo more. If in the minors he will see his innings built up as a starter for sure and still is a future starter prospect, but you can only have so many of those, although these days you need 7-12 SP.
  21. That is so cool. I mean bittersweet. Still upset that they didn’t protect him - yup therapy is helping but still can’t let go yet lol - but what a cool story as an non-drafted FA and the Brewers took him on and helped develop him, and then he is a rule 5 draft pick and now an opening day starter. And yeah yeah opening day starter is not what it used to mean decades ago, but still that’s awesome for that young man. I think it was Seth who did what 2 interviews with Shane, and he came across as a humble, hardworking kid who seemed so grateful for the chance to prove himself in the minors and get a chance to make the bigs. So good job Shane, and congrats. He is probably completely unaware of the cohort of fans he still has here at BF.net
  22. Did we have EV and swing data back in 2019-2021? I see the comparisons to Turang, and to be fair the numbers have been similar with the exception of the age 20 of Turang was wiped out. But bot had some doubles, decent average, a few HR, fine walk rates and lower K rates. Pratt seems to have gone from prospect darling last year when there was headline grabbers like could he make the team out of spring training, and then he has a very average season in AA, but it’s his swing decision and EV that seem to hold him back here. Otherwise he looks and plays like a big leaguer and if he is a .700 OPS guy with great defense and does the little things he is valuable big leaguer which is very much worthy of a top 10 ranking. The depth the Breewrs have and the elite talent of Made, Peña and emergence of Dinges and solid first season of Fischer have grabbed the top prospect attention, while Pratt could be in that group if his game power does develop ever. If not his floor is a good MLB SS like Ortiz was last year, which is still a good floor.
  23. I have said in many game threads if Bitonti could fix the hole in his swing he will be a huge prospect. When he makes contact it is often loud and hard and often very far. But in 2 seasons so far that hole is there. Striking out is one things, but just missing in zone and being fooled easily by breaking pitches has been his hold up. Let’s hope he can find a way with practice, coaching and experience.
  24. He could be Jett Williams light, which itself is hard to imagine lol. I keep forgetting about O'Rae - he's got that speed and was a sparkplug on offense in 2022 and early 2023. Probably has to move to CF or play 2B in a crowded prospect field. My pick to click can be KC Hunt, after a down year, and I see him moving to a bullpen role and he could become a great 7th/8th inning guy with his offspeed stuff and the velo could notch up a bit in shorter roles. Again thinking of a guy with lower expectations who could pop back on the prospect map.
