Absolutely no apologies needed. The fact that you are tracking this is amazing. Thank you good sir. I was just curious if I missed something that had changed - I mean I assumed not since I’m like several folks who refresh this forum like every 15 minutes. I look forward to your update. Keep it coming. Thanks for doing this!! -
2025 Official Draft Signings Thread
biedergb replied to Jake McKibbin's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
Right. I assumed Cairone was right at slot - given the fact the pick was use it or lose it. But figured Flores was going to be a little more overslot. Should have decent money to offer to those #11-20 picks I think, as Thompson could go over slot, but not a lot and Owens I doubt goes much over slot, and if he doesn't sign it is not a huge loss in the overall pool. Ragsdale was signing I believe - but no info on the amount? @Jake McKibbin - you switched him from Yes to Unconfirmed on that spreadsheet (compared to the one you posted this morning). Also noted you have Brock as unconfirmed on this most recent spreadsheet, but previously as a No. Sounds like he was going to OU, but things can always change right? I do remember that this time last year Dubanewicz was on campus at UF, and surprisingly signed last minute. So I'm still holding out on some of these picks. -
Jesus Made One of the top 2 in the organization. He and Pena will top the rankings for now.Luis Pena As above, who is #1 vs #2, as it is reported Made has more power projection so ceiling is higher, but Pena has maybe a higher floor. I mean we have two young top talents.Cooper Pratt 20 year holding his own in pitching friendly Southern League, and playing good defense. Maybe not the ceiling we were looking for if power doesn't come around, but he should be fine MLB SS.Logan Henderson Title of best pitching prospect in the organization until he gets his call.Jeferson Quero Lost some luster, and some like Joseph argue Dinges is the better prospect, but Quero is coming back from injury and doing fine and at AAA.Marco Dinges Helium prospect this year, and the dang injury bug took some of the air out the balloon, and I could have argued for him to be #3 if he hit AA this year.Robert Gasser Oh where to put him. On the one hand I'm hoping he comes back healthy and will take the mantle of best pitching prospect once Henderson graduates. On the other hand he is coming back from surgery and may still "only" be a mid rotation piece at best. Gets murky from here down.Luis Lara Sensation season after a very difficult first month. I have him going up arrow as his defense is elite and he is a contact hitter. Any power makes him a top 5 prospect, but for now I can only dream those doubles become HRs, so I keep in this range.Braylon Payne Boy in April/May I thought he was top 5, then I thought he was a bust, now I have him around 8-10. Polarizing prospect still a year later, but his young (could have been a draft pick this year) and had a great week last week, so I keep him in the top 10 because he is one of the few true 5 tool prospects after Made/Pena.Luke Adams Still so young and was really hitting his stride in AA. He has been successful every stop so I give him the benefit of the doubt, but a shoulder injury puts a small dent for now.Andrew Fischer Should hit, and hasn't had any minor league struggles since he only got drafted, so I have him above Wilken for now. It will be interesting how Adams/Wilken/Fischer fare and progress as corner IF prospects.Brock Wilken Random injuries have really messed his progress up. I can't call him "injury prone" but he has had 2 injuries that have wrecked his seasons. He has the power bat, and it is legit. He was making better contact and striking out at an acceptable rate. But a lost 2nd half of a seasons keeps him out of the top 10, and behind the younger and new Adams and Fischer.Josh Adamczewski Kid just hits. Could be 2B, could have a home somewhere else. Back injury is scary, so stays outside of the top 10 as result. But great hit first profile and hopefully will be back in A ball and could see high A if healthy and hitting well. If not he drops a few rungs later this season.Brady Ebel He and Bitonti look like similar profiles, but Ebel could be a 3B. On just potential I have him above Bitonti since Bitonti still is struggling on contact.Eric Bitonti Best pure raw power and second best power hitter after Wilken (who makes more contact than Bitonti). Still youngish for a 2023 draftee, but will need to have a good or great second half and needs to get to high A and maybe AA next year.Coleman Crow I am impressed with Crow. He just was lights out in AA. Will hit some roadblocks and struggles in AAA which would be expected for a guy who hadn't pitched competitively in almost 2 years. But looking like a heckuva return for Houser/Taylor.Mike Boeve Solid. But coming back from a shoulder injury and doesn't seem to have the same zip. Probably DH/1B, but should be a professional hitter. Again a lack of breakout this season has him in this middle rank, but I would hope he will force his way to AAA this year or opening day next.Blake Burke Such a solid hitter. But 1b only profile and his odd lack of power so far for a college bat is holding him back in my eyes. If he can keep hitting and make it to AA and hit there he could move up. But a lot of guys are in paralell (Adams/Fischer/Wilken, Ebel/Bitonti, and Burke/Boeve)Tyson Hardin I hadn't ranked him yet, but will now. Could be a fast mover. I think KC Hunt's fantastic year and then struggles this year, make me a little gun shy on Hardin's ascent. I hope he proves me wrong and is a top 10 prospect next year.Bryce Meccage OK. The depth is crazy. When a top pick from last year, HS pitcher who can pitch 97 is somehow not in the top 5, and not even in the top 10 and I have to find a place for him at 20?? That is so wild. And that's his issue - not wild exactly, but control and command. But if there is an organization who can help that this is it. So Meccage, Wichrowski along with several of the '24 and '25 HS pitchers, if the stuff and command come together it will be incredible. The depth is great. Makes a 20 player list so difficult as I left off Yoho (looking more like a 7th/8th inning guy this year and less like Devin Williams v2.0), and Antunez/Fenelon, or any of the '24 HS pitchers (Dubanewicz, Dorchies, Renz, Tobias). And I had left off players who seem to have lost prospect status this year (EMJ, Black) and those with years lost to injury (Knoth and now Letson). And M. Hernandez, M. Rodriguez need to fill out and gain velo to be higher end prospects for me. And it is crazy for me how many players are in groups, where if one player succeeds that all we need (ie Adams, Wilken and Fischer if one is our future 3B great, we don't NEED all three to succeed), and that is hedging your investments and the way to build success. The groups/pairs include Made/Pena, Bitonti/Ebel, Crow/Hardin, Boeve/Burke, Dubanewicz/Dorchies/Tobias/Renz, Knoth/Letson.

At work so couldn't watch, but looks like the Mudcats from April and early May. Score early and often. Alright way to start the day. Now let's spark some offense all throughout the organization (looking at you T-Rats, or T-Rays, with you RISP issues). Good pitching by Hernandez once again. A great year for such a young kid. And Bryan Rivera yet another young pitcher in this Carolina roster. But alas, poor Dikemeber Sanchez, who is clearly not having a 2025 to remember. He had a few good outings in a row, and then today happens. He starts out great with 2 outs, then walk, walk, single, WP, single and it's a 3 run inning. When I see him struggle, I keep hearing the Counting Crows song in my head and replace December with Dikember : "And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe Maybe this year will be better than the last" Maybe next year will be better than this for him.

In Low A there are only a total of 36 pitchers who are teenagers (per FanGraph, and at least 10 IP). The Brewers have 4 of them (Hernandez; and then the trio of Meccage, Dubanewicz and Dorcghies), and all are in the upper half in most metrics, and all top 13 in WHIP. Most teams have 0-2 teenagers in low A, and the only other organization who has more is Atlanta. But we will tie them once Tobias reaches 10 IP which should happen soon. So yes this is a very good and successful group of HS draftees to be in low A a year later and have almost all not only reach A but do well. And Renz and Broughton have a chance to join them as well. I do wonder if we will look at the '23 vs '24 drafts and have a debate as to which one will be more impactful in the long run. (Side note: Justin Chambers '23 draftee who was traded to LAD for B. Hudson, is now in low A as a teenager as well)

Biloxi got a run back. Will try to close it out up 5-2. They are playing like a “team” - even with key players out they still find ways to win. Although I will nitpick and say it’s been a little while since Cooper Pratt really stood out offensively. Otherwise no Wilken, Adams, or Hardin and the team still plays well enough to win or keep it close. Hoping some of those players get healthy and can return and help Biloxi in the 2nd half and the playoffs.

Cornielle does have a fine but inefficient outing. 4 IP, 1 hit, 1 walk and 7 K. But lifted at 68 pitches with an eye toward his Sunday start no doubt. Mendoza in and already given up a walk and a hit and now a HBP to load the bases. Ok. Settle down Shuckers let’s minimize the damage and keep going. Right now a 4-0 game, but Rocket City on the verge of breaking through…
-
And Anfernny Reyes closes the door. Gave up a walk, but gets the last out swinging. Mudcats win, and hope to get hot for the second half division title. Shuckers get a run in, and Lara sac fly gets another in. Early 2-0. I will come back later to check on Cornielle. T-Rats doing T-Rats things (0-4 with RISP). Garcia has kept the River Bandit bats quiet through 3, but it's 0-0 despite 3 hits and 4 walks for Wisconsin.

2025 Minor League Transaction Thread
biedergb replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Ugh. In one day both of the leading co-pitchers of the year hit the IL. Again hope it's nothing serious for Hardin, and Crow was dealing with a lower body something when he was promoted, and you have to wonder if it's related to that or a new thing that popped up. This is why you draft 20 pitchers in each draft..... -
Welp I'm having issues with my wifi, so I am watching gameday live updates only, but would have been a nice game to watch in Zebulon. Dorchies with a great start as @Joseph Zarr alluded to. Then the top of the line up with 2 separate 2-run innings so far. Adamczewski and Made each 2-3 with a BB. Pena with 2 RBI. And Anderson 2-3 as well. Only Bitonti among the top 6 hasn't gotten on. And DiTuri is 0-3 with 3K. Yikes. Dubanewicz somehow through 4 IP in 53 pitches despite 7 hits allowed (all singles). 5-2 Muddies in the bottom of 8th. And Bitonti just K'd. Anderson with another single, now 3-4 with the RBI. It's 6-2

Colmenarez gives those two runs up with a HR against. It is not 9-6 as this battle continues. On to the 8th, but I will call it a night. Nice to see the ACL bats getting hits and hits with runners in scoring position too (5-9 tonight). Was it last week or the week before where they have like only a couples hits two games in a row. -

Mercedes completes 5 IP. Did hit 95 mph in his last inning, but also gave up a double and a single for a run. So 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB and 2K, and it took 82 pitches. A decent if not great outing. But Handelfry singles home Ereu to restore it a 3 run lead. 7-4. Colmenarez gives up another run in his inning of relief, with offspeed stuff and a sinker that goes 88-90mph. Next inning, a walk by FIelder, and have yourself a night, Roderick Flores, who hits his second homer of the season (and 2nd of the night), and it is a 9-5 lead. Every position player with a hit, there are 2 BBs drawn, and only 4 Ks so far for the offense. -

Sweet @sveumrules I was just thinking that the Complex Crew kids were playing, and going to check in I forgot we have stat cast data for it as well. Double bonus -
Some teams don’t view the draft in the way of building depth at all levels, and it is hard since there may be a gap that they may not be ready to bridge of they go heavier on HS. For most teams high end HS and then mostly college guys are safer, closer to being in higher levels of minors, less perceived injury risk, and theoretically less time on development. Brewers clearly are in on taking time to develop them and see trying to get quantity and quality, and view this as a model of sustainability since they can’t (or won’t and that’s a totally different debate) spend in free agency. So I do see some teams trying this approach, but not most.
