  1. I would project a 3.20 era with a 35% chance he blows out his elbow next year. A winter trade would be good a mid season trade after a closely monitored spring would be better.
  2. Maybe, maybe not. Jungmann, Peralta, Garza and the rest get "pretty smacked around" all the time. As Hillary would say... "At this point, what does it matter!"
  3. Brent is a very nice pitcher, not much of a thrower. It usually takes a few games for him to figure out the level of his opponent, but once he does, he is fine. He went to Harvard, for goodness sakes! He is a thinker with talent. I think he will do just fine.
  4. Michael De Leon.... 19 years old ss/2b switch hitter at High A. I like it!!!!
  5. I wonder if leaning towards potential as opposed to results isn't a mistake. It's why I did not have Kirby or Meideiros on my list at all (just not seeing the results), and it's why I have Suter at the top. Suter's results over the last two years, particularly at Colorado Springs, just speak louder than the potential of some players. Ben Hendrickson was just one in a long line of guys that had "results" coming up. I think we need to keep in mind that the "results" we're referring to here come during what is essentially practice. Positive Results = Potential + Positive Performance Negative Results = Potential + Negative Performance or Negative Results = No Potential + Negative Performance Potential = Potential Suter falls into the first category. He may not have gobs of potential, but he does have stellar performance. He has a 3.5 era in Colorado Springs. Name any other starter other than Davies that can say that. Suter deserves a September call up and at least a shot at being a MLB LOOGY next year. I will take performance over potential 7 out of 10 times.
  6. How hard would it be to get into the Carolina League? The Hilton Head Hammers!!!
  7. I like that we added high end pitching, I think we gave too much to Texas, but I will live.

  9. I hope Brinson can improve on that .237 batting average and .280 on base percentage at AA for a 22 year old. #21 in the Top 100 am I missing something?
  10. My advise at this point is , "make only good trades, a bad trade is worse than no trade". For all of you that want a total rebuild, you will just have to wait.
  11. There is always the "Don't Trade" option
  12. This is exactly how you should draft....shortstops, catchers and starting pitchers. Catchers can become corner infielders or corner outfielders and shortstops can go anywhere but catcher. Starting pitchers can become relievers. Always do this and you will be successful. If all you draft is middle infielders and catchers, you will have a pretty righty skewed organization from a hitting standpoint. Just saying.. Not if you draft left handed and switch hitting shortstops and catchers. They are out there all the time.

  14. I will keep my lightning in a bottle a little longer.
  15. Add and pay for Garza is the best I would do.
  16. I've heard that it's more stressful but I don't know if I've ever seen any science behind it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the splitter the fashionable pitch in the 70's and 80's and then someone said it leads to injuries and coaches didn't want guys throwing it anymore? I never really thrown it as a pitch but I've thrown it and you definitely can "feel" it more than other pitches. Like I said though, I've never actually seen any studies about it. Take a baseball and jam it between your fingers and look at your forearm. I pitched in high school and our pitching coach showed us that to explain why he didn't teach the splitter. It is his elbow to do with it what he wants. My concern (or lack of concern) is how long will it last.
  17. I think they got their lefty with Miller, even if he slots in as the closer. They might do that for Jeffress or Thornburg as a 7th/8th inning guy. I would be ok with that. I just thought another lefty might help.
  18. I am ok without Gallo if they give us the top five I have above plus two more.
  19. What about Smith and Boyer for Meija
  20. A few days ago, I would have been right there with you in terms of my expectations on a return for Luc/Jeffress. However, after seeing the deal that was supposed to go down with Cleveland for Lucroy, I don't think there is any way we get this type of return for both guys. If I had to guess right now, I would say that a Luc/JJ package would probably net us: Gallo, Guzman, Jurado and Morgan. I would love to swap Mendez into this deal in place of Jurado or Morgan, but I doubt that would happen. The fact that we were originally going to get a borderline Top 100 player in Mejia, and then two "OK" prospects from the Indians really tells me that the market just isn't where we all hoped it would be for Luc. So, if we were just trading him by himself to Texas, I'm guessing we'd probably get a package of Mendez, Guzman and Morgan. Throw in JJ, and that probably motivates Texas to up their offer to Gallo (even though I'd probably prefer Mendez) and then they add in someone like Jurado. Just my opinion based off of what we now know is Luc's value on the market. JJ is worth Mendez, Jurado and Payano Luc is then Gallo, Guzmann and Morgan edit If they need more , pay for next year of Garza's salary and they get a back end starter.
  21. This would due for me Luc and JJ for Gallo and six (6) (maybe five) of the following, three (3) from the top five and three (3) from the bottom five and at least three pitchers... 4 SP Mendez AA 5 SP Tate A 7 OF Taveras R 8 1B Guzman AA 11 SP Jurado AA 15 SP Sadzeck AA 17 SS Morgan A+ 19 SS De Leon A+ 23 SS Yrizarri A 24 SP Payano A

It will get hitters out, and it will destroy your elbow. That pitch put Bruce Sutter in the Hall of Fame, and retired him early. No two arms are the same, you can't say for sure when it will happen, but it will happen. That's what I thought I heard. SO do we take a chance that he does not blow out the elbow (being 31, but has not thrown the splitter until recently) or we trade him? My thought is to keep him at least to this time next year. If he pitches the same way for another year, and their seem no reason he shouldn't, he should be worth a whole bunch more than now. The chances he blows out the elbow is just a guess. I think we should double down.
  23. Looks like no news over night.
