  1. turborickey said: Just don't like excessive strike-outs, and Reynolds will provide us with plenty of those... I agree on the strikeouts. Nothing infuriates me more than watching a dude with runners in scoring position strike out and I agree that Reynolds will provide us with a ton of that. On the bright side though, strikeouts are better than GIDPs. Not if we platoon him. Cut the at bats by letting him hit against lefties (OPS of .852). I can live with those strike outs.
  2. The real concern on this roster would be another knee flareup for Ramirez. Reynolds and Francisco are both defensive liabilities there and are penciled in at first. Bianchi's bat doesn't fit a corner IF spot and Green missed all of last year. If Ramirez got hurt they might have to go out and get a Jeff Keppinger, the overpriced utility guy who struggled in the AL last year and who's at best slated to be a backup for White Sox. His NL track record is not all that bad. Otherwise, they'll likely roll the dice with Reynolds at 3B and Halton will slot in his spot at 1B. That is why you go with Green and not Francisco. Not great, but much better fielding 3B than Juan. If Green is finally healthy, he is the man to be the corner leftie bat off the bench. Bianchi could still be the platoon against lefties. Not great, but a Green/Bianchi platoon could get us through a short term A-Ram injury.
  3. C - Lucroy, Maldanado 1B - Reynolds, Green 2B - Scooter, Weeks SS - Segura, Bianchi 3B - A-Ram LF - Davis CF - Gomez, Schafer RF - Braun LINEUP Versus Lefties.....Versus Righties Segura..............Segura Weeks...............Scooter Braun................Braun A-Ram...............A-Ram Lucroy...............Lucroy Gomez..............Gomez, Schafer Reynolds...........Green Davis................Davis, Schafer SP - Yo, Lohse, Garza, Estrado, Peralta RP - Henderson, Kintlzer, Smith, Gorzelanny, Blazek, Thornburg, Wooten Really like the starting pitchers knowing Thornberg can start anytime with Burgos, Nelson, Fiers and Hellweg are only a plane flight away.
  4. At Home 1. Segura SS 2. Braun RF 3. Ramirez 3B 4. Lucroy C 5. Weeks 2B/Gindl LF 6. Gomez CF 7. Halton 1B/Francisco 1B 8. Starting Pitcher/Pinch Hitter 9. K Davis LF/Gennett 2B Rationale: 1. The Starting Pitch will be the 26th batter (5th or 6th inning). If it is the 5th we probable have scored runs in the previous innings an we don't need to pinch hit. If it is the 6th we pinch hit unless he has a no hitter. It will be different in away games as we bat first, so the 3rd at bat for the pitcher will come before a chance for a quality start. So you extend the chance for him and pinch hit on the fourth pitcher at bat. 2. Your best hitters get more at bats over time. 3. You still get a quality bat in front of Segura after the first inning. Davis and Gennett are well protected and should be productive in a more limited way because of their place in the order. Away Games 1. Segura SS 2. Lucroy C 3. Braun R 4. Ramirez 3B 5. Weeks 2B/Gindl LF 6. Gomez CF 7. Halton 1B/Francisco 1B 8. K Davis LF/Gennett 2B 9. Starting Pitcher/Pinch Hitter Rationale: 1. Traditional, the pitcher does not get pinch hit until the fourth rotation unless he has a bad outing. 2. You still have your best hitters get the most at bats.
  5. Uggla contract is worse than Weeks so how about this.. Uggla 2b 13.2,13.2 C Johnson 3b 3.5?, Arb, Arb Starting Pitcher AAA .5, .5, .5 for Weeks 12, FA ARam 16, 4 and Gallardo 11.5, FA or Lohse 11, 11 The Braves could afford the three contracts, as the Upton brothers are the only other big contracts. Johnson worth is in the fact that he is controllable, but as long a s ARam is healthy there is not much difference in play. Yo or Lohse improves their pitching depth without much cost. Brewers get rid of three large contracts an only take one back and get the 3b of the future and a Nelson/ Hellweg pitcher back. Tear it up......
  6. Sometimes a change of scenery helps?
  7. What about flipping Uggla and Weeks? We throw in a MiLB AAA pitcher and they send us someone like Kyle Kubitza (high A 3B) or Edward Salcedo (AA SS).
  8. 1. Let the young position players play. 2. Let the young starting pitchers pitch. 3. Let the young relievers pitch. 4. Trade Ramirez, Weeks, Gallardo (take the pick if no good deals) and Lohse at the trading deadline. 5. Sign three good international players.
  9. Does his outright to the minors mean a free agent signing?
  10. Just let the kids play.
  11. I agree with stache
  12. I have said this in other posts... platoon at three positions 1B Halton vs lefties Green or Juan vs righties 2B Scooter vs righties Weeks vs lefties LF Gindl vs righties Davis vs lefties Every one has power off the bench except Scooter. Let it shake out for 1/2 half of a year and if Weeks is i a hot streak, trade him faster than fast and let Scooter play. Same with the other positions, see what you have and make adjustments. Absolutely a no lose situation (other than the $11,000,000 and knowing that you will not be in the playoffs) and you now know who can play for 2015.
  13. I think they should start with platoons at three positions, lf with gindl and Davis, 2b with weeks and scooter, and 1b with Morris or green and halton. It gives you the depth you need on the bench and you get the maximum as far as percentage baseball. It also is not very expensive. If you're going to spend money, spend it on pitching. At the all star break, trade a-ram and weeks (after he is hitting a majority of lefties) and we now have the money flexibility we need for the next year.
  14. Home town discount never really applied. Glad he is gone.
  15. I see "Bill Hall" written all over him. Just my opinion. You can have yours.
  16. "He's 30 and not one of the prospects, but he's affordable, generally successful, and doesn't have crazy mileage on that arm, which amounts to his being a GREAT asset I don't think you move until there's an in-house surplus of proven SPs and a strong offers knocking down Melvin's door." Kinda like Lohse's career.
  17. Trade Gomez, keep Aoki, unless you like a strike out king who can run and catch in center. Gomez will regress, he already has. Trade him over the winter, someone will bite.
  18. If we just trade Gomez (he is embarrassing) for some pitching, don't resign Yuni and stick with the rest of what we have, we will be a .500 team. I would be happy with that as the young pitchers get another year to develop. Trade Gallardo (maybe Lohse and ARam too) at the deadline or if we are in it, add a piece or two. Going into 2015 with Lohse, Peralta, Estrada, Thornberg, and Hellweg sounds very promising. The big thing is with that rotation we still have some other good arms ready at AAA.
  19. The Crew 07...... First, You're looking at rankings that hadn't been updated and then comparing them to rankings that were updated post trade. Second, I don't put much stock in Mayo's prospect rankings at all, BA never had him in the Cards' top 10. I think we'll see better prospect rankings in the future from MLB/MiLB with Callis on board. ............................ So you are saying Blazek has digressed or the so called experts over rated him? Maybe the other Card prospects were under rated? He was number five in the Cards list, he went to eleven on the Brewers list. He is now number ten on the list. Are the new ratings accurate, in your opinion? I went to Baseball America to find their list and it just looks out of date. It has Wily Peralta and Tyler Thornburg as our top two even though they are now major leaguers, not prospects. Taylor Jungmann was listed number three with Jimmy Nelson number five and Hellweg at six. I think most Brewer fans think Nelson and Hellweg is more ready and has better pitching qualities than Jungmann. I am trying to under stand your logic, but it just is not making sense to me. Help me out.
  20. Mr Southpaw said: Michael Blazek goes from the 5th best prospect of the Cards to the 11th best prospect of the Brewers. None of the ten in front of him are on the MLB roster (Maybe Hellweg). Why do people say our minor leagues cupboard is so empty? "Because it is? The top 4 of the Cardinals (Taveras, Wacha, Wong and Gast though I have no idea what Gast is doing that high on the list) is far better than Nelson, Jungmann, Hellweg and Taylor and that's even after the Cardinals have also graduated Miller, Rosenthal, Martinez and Adams off their prospect list this year. We're just so ridiculously far behind other teams, especially the teams in our division on high upside prospects as well as depth." But you are saying our 5th through 10th prospect are better than Blazek? MLB.com is. Maybe not, maybe we will just suck forever. I am not an eternal optimist, but it looks like the glass is at least a 4/10ths full.
  21. After reading the top 20 ay MLB.com, I feel even better. Two of our top three pitchers are a couple of hairs away from being in Milwaukee, the rest of the top twelve includes an entire lineup card, and we have six starting pitchers in the 10-20 range either a year or two away from being Brewers. We already have a good core group with Peralta, Thornberg, Gomez, Davis, Schafer, Gennett, Segura, Braun, and Lucroy. 2015-2020 should be very good years for the Brewers.
  22. Michael Blazek goes from the 5th baest prospect of the Cards to the 11th best prospect of the Brewers. None of the ten in front of him are on the MLB roster (Maybe Hellweg). Why do people say our minor leagues cupboard is so empty?
  23. Is he out of baseball? Maybe injured for the year?
