  1. Can't we still get Peavy or Bedard in the August deadline? I'd rather make the current squad show they can make some progress as is before I get robbed of prospects that the starting pitching market is going to assuredly demand.
  2. I could be talked into a Paul Byrd/Odalis Perez type signing for cheap, but that's about it. I am very thankful that Doug did not mortgage the future this year. We might have two top of the rotation (2/3 types) next year at this time because Doug didn't panic this trade deadline.
  3. I actually agree with the title of your thread. However, my agreement has no sarcasm in it. He should not have done anything this year. Even for Correija (sp.) from SD, I think you'd all be shocked of the cost. We were not getting a good starting pitcher anywhere near at a fair value. Doug left us short in that area this year and he knows it. I highly doubt it happens again and will be remedied in the off-season at a fair price.
  4. I think we gotta try Chris Smith here. Get by with him to rest Hoff and Stett, get two wins in a row, and things might look up again as we hit SD.
  5. If the M's don't trade him, it's because they are very confident he is going to resign with them. But there are other options in free agency for starting pitching in the #3-#4 range, and Hardy or Hart should be able to net us a #2-#3 type in a trade. Give me a Guthrie in a Hardy trade and a signing of someone like Bedard (a huge injury risk I know) and we will be much more competitive next year.
  6. Probably Swisher most of the time for the rest of the year. Gerut maybe gets a little more PT. Depending on how far out we are, at some point we may even play Corey there a little or (a longshot) give Braun a few games trial.
  7. I am sure if we gave them a reliever that might help them down the line here that might benefit from a change of scenery, a Kennedy and Swisher trade could be an option. Maybe something like Cameron and Villanueva for Swisher and Kennedy would do the trick?
  8. I have a feeling we may want to "sting" the Cubs and give Harden a serious offer. Also, we were rumored to want Bedard moreso than Washburn a month or so ago, so he may be a buy low option due to his injury history if we are willing to risk it. Those are two names I will be following anyway.
  9. Corey is heating up. His stats might look nice by the end of the year to where we may have the option of trading him for a GOOD starter or keeping him.
  10. Harden, Escobar, Piniero, Millwood, Washburn, Bedard, or Lackey. Our braintrust needs to figure out which is likely to be good for 3-4 years and which is maybe going to bust. None of these guys are Suppan, but they all do have some risk attached (mostly health or age).
  11. It just seems like a trade that would be about even straight up. And neither is having their best year obviously. They are about to have pretty darn good starting pitching anyway next year but could really use a good SS. We have a good SS about ready to take JJ's job and need starting pitching in the worst way.
  12. Guys, I have no way of knowing, but I think we'll be giving up a better prospect than you guys are thinking. Probably not in the second tier of Lucroy/Green/Cain but probably that third tier. I guess we'll see, but I am expecting a 10-15 type prospect going to SD if we execute this deal.
  13. I actually like that free agent list as opposed to most other years. We are going to have to our darndest to pedal Hardy for our #2 or at least #3, but I have confidence we can fill the other through one of those names, provided Doug learns his lesson from this year and will go market value for a #3 type.
  14. One of you mentioned you thought we'd end up trading Hardy at some point for an O's starter. Might it happen for Guthrie and sooner than later? Here's the link showing teams are calling about Guthrie... http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/07/teams-inquiring-on-guthrie.html
  15. We have to save the old-reliable Suppan for an elimination game like last year.
  16. We might have been able to get Coke as well as Cabrera for Cameron, provided we threw them a couple million. But we were in ticked off mode after losing CC to them and watching them spend so much money that we kind of rightfully saw it as outrageous for them to insist on us throwing them some cash. Out of principle, you basically had to walk away from that trade I think. But having Coke in the BP would be nice, and maybe even trying him as a starter given how bad we've been the past couple weeks.
  17. Ha ha ha, well yeah, I guess I am not sure Dick Pole is something I am excited to see on FSN regularly next year.
  18. If Castro loses his job because of how bad our pitching has been, would anyone like to see Dick Pole in Milwaukee?
  19. Thanks for the input on the TH Tweet. If Melvin got a rental, he'd get an F in my book. If he does nothing (which I expect) I can at least give him a C.
  20. Morrow and Niemann are good names to throw out and target for Hardy, as is Liriano. I'd look at Bowden from Boston too, as you are right, the time to be able to get Buchholz for Hardy has passed (probably was in this previous off-season or no later than June this season if there was a window there).
  21. Sanchez was just traded for Alderson, another good pickup for the Pirates. I'll tell you guys what, the Pirates are coming and they'll be here real quick. Maybe a .500 team next year before they really take off. Dare I say, if Doug can't figure out this jigsaw puzzle (aka being willing to sell when it's time, know when to sell high, know who to trade for, etc.) we will be rooting for the fifth place team in the NL Central sooner than most of us ever planned.
  22. Interesting that Snell, you'd think, will definitely be in the M's rotation next week. Does that lessen their bargaining power with a Washburn trade, or does that mean one is virtually done? And if Snell is added to the rotation and Morrow is not, how much lower is his value going to be in the off-season? I don't know what the price is on Morrow, but I'd look into it right about now...
  23. Clement would at least be a pinch hitter worth using if any MLB manager is willing to risk using their other catcher in that role (Ned and Macha now have me wondering if that's too "risky"). He'd give us someone that we could use at first every blue moon for Fielder or (knock on wood) if Fielder has to miss any time (we don't really have anyone else unless you like Cat). And there's always that chance he improves defensively or that when he gets here and catches, we realize he's not nearly as bad as has been written or that his bat basically makes up for the sized downgrade he is defensively. I like these three guys in a trade with Seattle (Washburn/Morrow/Clement), provided we can just deal them Hardy/Salome/JZ nugget (10-20 range).
  24. Gosh I hope we don't deal for Washburn. I'll give JZ a couple prospects for Morrow that aren't our top ones. But there's no reason to get a rental with this team, or to outbid more legit playoff teams.
  25. I agree LCB. However, I think he might say "Get at least a #3 starter, we need one". Doug then says, "the market is horrible, we're going to have to give up our second best prospect to do that". I am worried about how MA responds to this...
