  1. Who are the sliders still around other than Stassi?
  2. Is Stassi the same thing, wanting a big bonus? He should have been picked by now.
  3. Mayo said another reason for Heckathorn's slide was that, despite what appeared to be dominating stuff, he still got hit against too much.
  4. X - do you know if we really like Will Myers or do you just think there's interest because he's like Lawrie. I'd love to get him next.
  5. There goes Davidson. Let's get Heckathorn or Will Myers.
  6. Who are the top three left that can be guessed as the guys we'd most like at our next pick? I am hoping for Will Myers.
  7. Guys, I got no feedback from a previous page but am wondering if anyone likes Poythress as a possible Prince replacement with our next pick.
  8. What are thoughts on Rex Brothers?
  9. Arnett and then Polythress for us would be really nice.
  10. Question for you guys...would Polythress (not sure that's spelled right) be a guy that would be a good pick for as a sandwitch pick? I'd like to sadly get Prince's replacement through this draft and really like his power, realizing the rest of his game as lacking. What would you think about that pick though?
  11. Donavan Tate goes #3 to SD. I did not see him in the first round on PGcrosschecker's updated mock, though I may have looked too quickly.
  12. Agreed, unless he's Mauer or Wieters, I'd never spend a top five pick on a catcher. He'd better play in a few all-star games for them.
  13. My thoughts are that they want Burns starting. Also, before either were called up, I believe Smith slightly "deserved it" more, though both deserved a shot based on what they'd been doing. Also, Smith is a few years younger and might be more of a long-term guy, wheras Burns might be a AAAA guy.
  14. I don't follow the salary side of the draft, but I am guessing the Brewers aren't going to play this game with these two. Isn't Scheppers the guy that has the injury concern too, or is that someone with a similar last name?
  15. Scrap Iron - we only want Escobar up if Hardy is not on the roster. That is one point 95% of us would be in agreement with. Even those advocating doing this trade probably like Hardy as much as me. If Hardy is on the roster, Escobar should be in AAA so the clock doesn't start on him. If we can get TB for Hardy though, Escobar would fit right in at short imho.
  16. I think it's pretty clear that there are some very loyal Hardy fans, as there should be, as well as some fans that think Escobar is ready and Hardy should get us a good, young starter now if he could. I doubt any arguement is going to sway either side.
  17. Like I have in the Heether thread, I think it simply comes down to whether you think Escobar/Buccholtz is better than Hardy/Parra (or Suppan). It certainly is in the future. I just argue that it is this year as well, realizing there are unknowns in the former.
  18. My one and only point is that Escobar + Buchholtz > Hardy. Going along with that, my two footers would be... 1) I don't want to give up 2+ top ten prospects to get a rental starter or 3+ to get someone longer term with a big contract. 2) Hardy will not get us the value he will today if he ends the year hitting .260 with 12-16 Hr's (if his numbers do look like this) and with one less year on his contract before free agency.
  19. Escobar looks to hit for a better average than Hardy and obviously have more speed than Hardy, leading to probably Escobar being better at bunting, getting doubles, etc. Most admit his glove is better too, even though Hardy is no slouch there. I understand to a point the complacency some have with Hardy. I like him too. But Escobar could be as productive as a whole even THIS season as a middling Hardy (if Hardy has a very average season at the plate) and if you can get a stud young pitcher, do it NOW since the window will close if Hardy has average numbers after this season is complete on the year.
  20. Just guessing here, but possibly because he's not pitching in the MLB but rather in MILB right now in AAA.
  21. I think he was seen as a 15 HR guy that topped at about 25 max. Turns out that he was able to reach the 25 right away. I doubt he surpasses 25 again, though he may reach that number again. I believe the 15-25 range is something that he'll hit pretty regularly.
  22. Yep, he leads the team in doubles actually. Also second in total bases. Clearly dominating the stolen bases category. The kid is ready if needed (or if a Hardy trade for a stud pitcher is a reality we can accomplish soon).
  23. I am not sure I agree with that End. I respect the heck out of your posts and you could be right though. But I am not adamant either way on which team would be better....Hardy and the current starting five or Escobar with Buchholtz added to the starting five. I guess it's more risk but I think it is potentially much more reward even this season. The uncertainty is what will lead many posters here to not want to do this during the season and possibly Doug as well. However, there is no way that you can get Buchholtz for Hardy after the season, or anyone with near his potential. So if Melvin thinks he can get enough "bat" out of Escobar starting now (or if he thinks Hardy might have a middling type of season at the plate) this move should definitely be made. Edited to add that I hope Hardy is not kept simply because Melvin thinks attendance-wise that he is a fan favorite. While he is, I truly believe our fanbase even outside of this site is much more in tune with baseball knowledge than many other fans attending games for other MLB clubs. I think enough would realize that Escobar is going to be good himself and that you need to get a starter like CB when you have that opportunity (if we have that opportunity).
  24. When considering Melvin's comments there in relation to what he has said in the past before players were traded by him, one almost would think Doug is angling for this very trade (Hardy for Buchholz). He admits Escobar is ready now? I figured there'd be something less forward coming from his mouth. If he truly believes Escobar is ready and can get Buchholz for Hardy, I am pretty sure this is a deal that will get done soon.
  25. Well Logan, I am no expert on the draft either, but I do think that we prepare to replace Prince with this draft. Heck, many felt we drafted LaPorta to do that. We did not know that we would be trading LaPorta last time before the draft was done. I am betting one of our first three picks is a 1B bat pigeoned to replace Prince. Whether we need a stopgap in 2012, who really knows at this point. But I guess I maintain that, given my confidence in Gamel figuring it out at third and given my confidence that McGeehe/Heether will be more than adequete utility infielders, Green is the guy we should dangle for a starter.
