  1. True - Of the twenty or so "bigger names" on the free agent market this winter, I'd argue that more than half are still on the free agent market today.
  2. I believe you guys are right in that both Nelson and Iribarren would have to clear waivers. I don't think Nelson would (I think a MLB team would at least five him a half year to prove himself before he becomes a AAAA player) though Iribarren might. I guess we'd have to assume neither would be on the AAA roster, which would likely put Mike Bell as the 2B starter, and he did play fairly well last year as the starter at AA. Also, I think Gillespie is a lock to be a starter for AAA. Cain I am guessing gets pushed up as well unless he has a really bad spring.
  3. I thought it might be fun rather than predicting the Brewers lineup on opening day, to sort of work backwards and figure out who you'd guess will be in the AAA starting lineup. Who wants to give it a shot?
  4. I don't think I'd go three years with Wiggington. Not that he isn't worth it. I am of the thinking though that Gamel will prove to be the answer at third, meaning we'd only really need a one year stop gap at third base.
  5. I like the idea of getting Swisher. A quality lefthanded bat that could man an OF spot for us for one year at the minimum, but also a guy that has some versatility and youth. Did Macha coach him in Oakland? I have a feeling this one might actually get done...
  6. So, given the Brewers lack of quality starting pitching Homer, your answer obviously is that you would do the trade, correct?
  7. I heard Steve Balboni thinks he can handle first should Prince need a day off. He'll be there too.
  8. Now that Hoffman is signed, I'd love to get Garland in these economic times of getting players actually quite a bit cheaper than they normally would be.
  9. I don't see why, given the guys we have now penciled in as starters, that we should be any different/better than the Royals/Pirates in terms of "giving Cabrera a shot" at starting. Seems to me, it wouldn't be hard for him to pitch better than how Bush pitched the first couple months of the year or as Suppan and Parra pitched the last couple months of the year.
  10. I want to guess Milton Bradley. He could start at first in 2010 (if Fielder is dealt) and could hopefully get at least 400 AB's as a 1B/OF supersub or enable us to deal Hart/Cameron yet this off-season.
  11. Just as a disclaimer, should Hardy happen to NOT have his three-week torrid hot streak he seems to have had the past two years, his trade value will diminish by a large degree next off-season, as his stats will look rather pedestrian (at least average for a starting SS).
  12. I wouldn't be against Cabrera, but for some reason he is reminding me of Rodrigo Lopez. Lopez was once highly thought of by the O's and was someone we had interest in a few years ago. They are probably nothing alike, but I can't help but think back to a few winters ago when we were contemplating going after another O's starter that they didn't want anymore.
  13. I wonder if we sweetend the deal and threw in someone like Lucroy, if they'd be willing to give us Hughes?
  14. I guess my line of thinking is that Counsell would be the guy if Iribarren is not. This does not have to be the case, but I think it'll be one of the two. I'd rather "go young and cheap" for this particular role. I agree with you Brian, that The Hurricane is not a top-notch utility guy, but I do feel he could possibly prove to be better than Counsell at the present time.
  15. I agree that Iribarren makes the most sense and I'd like for him to be given a full year to see if he can do a good job as a utility guy. I am guessing he can handle any infield position we'd need him to as well as handle CF in a pinch. No reason to have him on the 40-man roster if he's not being pegged for a spot on the 25-man roster.
  16. When Texeira turns down the Nats, it's been said that Dunn will be offered a big contract by them.
  17. I could do without seeing Ryan Christiansen on our 25man roster.
  18. I doubt we can get Smoltz. Johnson, I think we could but we might have to beat the top bidder by a million or two. Martinez I have no interest in and doubt he'd come here anyway. Wolf I'd maybe take for three years at 7 million per, but I wouldn't be too thrilled about it. Moyer........I doubt he'd come here and not sure what I'd offer. Just not sure on him.
  19. I have a bad feeling Melvin has the itch for left handed hitters like good ol' Dean Taylor had a few years ago for (a defensive-minded starting catcher and a left handed pitcher). We ended up with Henry Blanco as our starting catcher and dealt our best hitter (Jeromy Burnitz) for Glendon Rusch. I'll take talent over a handedness, thank you very much.
  20. I would love to get Ty Wiggington if he ends up being non-tendered (appearing less likely). He'd be a very nice third base option for us and is still somewhat young.
  21. I'd rather just wait and see if Cain is the answer and go with Cam or Melky for a year. No reason to get cute and get in on bidding for a guy like Tavarez, sure to get a longer and more expensive deal than he deserves.
  22. Why so many shortstops? We have JJ, Escobar, Brewer all seemingly desired at the position by brewer brass at some point. I'd have maybe looked for outfielders if we were looking at position guys, or at least only one shortstop.
  23. It sounds like Morlan should be good enough to make our bullpen and at least be good enough. Is there anyway we can go with the Cubs guy as well and still have a good enough bullpen? Is he more of a "stash and send down next year" guy or is he really just as good of a bet to do well as say Tim Dillard or Mark DiFelice?
  24. Geez guys! I was one of many here that actually didn't even want his option picked up! If we get a bench player for him, great imho.
  25. I'm not expecting that trio and would not be disappointed with a lot less. I'll take Kennedy and Cabrera for Cameron and keep Billy too.
