  1. The problem with that, John, is then you have Yuni B potentially starting playoff games, or very meaningful playoff race games in September. And you cannot afford to have his brutal defense and unprofessional at-bats (swinging at the 1st pitch, swinging at ball 4 and ball 5) in such situations. Despite the probability of Betancourt putting up better numbers in the 2nd half, he absolutely must be replaced
  2. I'm slightly worried that the Brewers might think that that sentence shouldn't be in blue.Might? It will guarantee that McGehee & Betancourt will be in the starting lineup tonight!
  3. Don't quite get the intrigue with Ian Desmond. Betancourt has a higher OPS than Desmond this year. And Desmond's OBP is only .263 right now!
  4. We cannot afford to have the same offense or "a little bit better" offense than what Casey is producing, even with slightly better defense (by most accounts, Green isn't exactly Brooks Robinson in the field either, even if he is better than Casey). We need substantially better offense than what Casey has produced, one would think at least a .750 OPS, if we are going to be a playoff team So far at least it seems like the Brewers front office doesn't think Green will be that big of an upgrade. I think they are trying to work out a big trade for someone like David Wright or Aramis Ramirez It is worth noting that McGehee's career minor league OPS was only .741 --- this current cold streak is not exactly shocking when taken in that context A .587 OPS is brutally bad. They reallly need to stop trotting him out every day
  5. Thats all well and good but there is still no logical explanation as to why Kotsay should ever bat 3rd or why Casey had an extra month batting 5th or why Betancourt plays as much as he does. Making sure Kotsay never bats in the top half of the lineup could not negatively possibly effect the team or Kotsay longterm
  6. I like Weeks alot because of his hustle and I really enjoy watching Greinke pitch because he has filthy stuff when he is on, but Ryan Braun is my favorite baseball player of all-time
  7. This is how I feel, too. I don't particularily like Hart leading off. I do like Weeks in the 5 spot, and I think he should remain there the rest of the way. I could see Weeks batting cleanup next season
  8. Wow. I see he was 2nd in the voting for the American League MVP that year, too, as in addition to the hitting he went 25-14 with a 3.52 ERA (322 Innings Pitched)
  9. I think we have a winner. Thanks! Never heard of him until today Farrell looks like he was a good solid pitcher, too: 4.04 career ERA, 6 full seasons with a 3 something ERA.
  10. Actually the first step to the World Series is DFA'ing Betancourt
  11. Just thought of another one who may be better than Zambrano: Don Larsen : .242 BA, .662 OPS
  12. Thanks. Didn't realize that and checked: a .235 career BA, .616 career OPS and 24 career HR's (many of them in the dead ball era too)
  13. Wanted to add: Gallardo has a .650 career OPS but its only been 200 or so at-bats, Narveson has a .250 + career BA but that is in only 90 at-bats Not sure where to draw the line in terms of minimum at-bats, maybe Gallardo is close (Zambrano has 648 career at-bats)
  14. They should be buyers this season If they move Braun to 1B next season (which they should do anyways to avoid wear & tear on his legs) and use some of the Prince $$$ on a very good LF, they should be plenty competitive next season. It is 2013 that is more of a concern, with Greinke & Marcum likely gone then
  15. Obviously, Babe Ruth was the greatest hitting pitcher of all-time And leaving out anomalies like Jeff Cirillo pitching an inning (and apparently both Ted Williams & Ty Cobb pitched more than a couple innings in their career too) I'm starting to think of Carlos Zambrano as possibly the 2nd greatest hitting pitcher of all-time Warren Spahn often gets credit for being one of the greats, & he does have the most career HR's among pitchers with 35 (in 21 seasons.... Zambrano has 22 HR's in 11 seasons) but Zambrano has a higher career BA, OBP, & OPS than Spahn (and Steve Carlton, too) Anyone else I'm not thinking of? Bob Gibson had 24 career HR's, a .204 Career BA and .545 career OPS Zambrano has a .239 career BA, .640 career OPS
  16. St Louis is a such a classy organization that they should DFA Pujols immediately over this shocking incident
  17. Just completely a guess but Corey Hart's contract goes through 2013. Hart will be a free agent in 2014. The Brewers are not going to rush Davis in the slightest and instead will hope he proves to be a great replacement for Hart in 2013 or 2014 Best case scenario I see it similar to Ryan Howard who was kept in the Phillies minor league system extra time and was an older MLB rookie First we'll need to see if Davis can rake in AA ball. I'm sure the Brewers organization is well aware of Davis' potential
  18. A small sample example of why the O's remain entrenched at or near last place year after year
  19. Maybe. They are pitching better at home. Not sure yet just what we have with this Brewers team. I do know that they aren't likely to make the playoffs unless they make an upgrade at SS & 3B. The bottom of the order (other than Lucroy) is not playoff caliber...
  20. When Hart was the MVP in 2003 his OPS was only .807 ...I think he projected then to be what he is now, a solid MLB starter but not a star player. Khris Davis .961 OPS at A+ ball is higher than anything Hart put up at that level. We'll see what Davis puts up in AA ball, but I think it'd be a real disappointment if its not significantly better than Hart's .807 OPS I think Davis projects to be a better MLB OF than Hart, and I'm hoping he'll be ready to take over for Hart in 2013, 2014 at the latest
  21. Prince Fielder had a .409 OBP in A ball as a 19 year old Hunter Morris does not sound in the slightest like a Prince Fielder
  22. Defensively we are spectacular in CF when Gomez is playing and solid/average when Morgan is playing
  23. And I expect them to also trade for a 3B, especially if Casey goes zero for the Rockies series
  24. There is injury risk not only with Furcal but with Hardy & Reyes too I would prefer someone like Barmes I think it'll be Furcal
  25. Thanks for the explanations. So obviously WAR isn't a very effective means of comparing the All-Time greats.
