  1. I remember a few years ago I searched "May Gamel" and the search returned a guy who looked quite a bit like the "Mat Gamel", holding a large traffic cone and thrusting. Actually, it's still up. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=520629098
  2. If they can pull this off, I've gotta say I'll be impressed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-z2jtUS9-Y How many hour ahead is Qatar? I'm pretty sure it's around 12. That means 12:00 games will start at midnight...7:00 PM games at 7:00 AM. It'll be hard to watch more than one game per day. That's the part I'm most disappointed about.
  3. For all I enjoyed his pain when the Cubs lost, he seemed like a pretty good guy. Sad to hear this.
  4. Rest assured, we will still be able to enjoy belligerently drunk English fans! Really though, it sucks to not get 2022. As for Qatar, their proposed facilities look absurdly awesometastic. I'm willing to bet they are going to address the average July high of 115'F at some point. I know nothing about Qatar, other than that it's a relatively small oil-rich Middle-Eastern nation that is pretty safe these days. Hopefully all goes well, and the soccer is brilliant.
  5. But Jody Gerut at least assured that we will never hear Chad Moeller's name again!
  6. There's no way Tulo would have gotten this on the FA market. That's an epicly scary deal to give to anybody.
  7. I'm guessing it tastes something like this: http://www.ratebeer.com/b...-9-krepkoe-strong/10540/ It's available for $1.99 per 51 oz. bottle at Woodman's, and it's an excellent gag gift for birthdays, Christmas, etc. Oh, and it's putrid. I really do wonder what Miller has to do to claim that Miller Lite is "Triple Hops Brewed". That beer must have no more than 5 IBU's. For sure <10 IBU's. My favorite part about it is that most people who love Miller Lite probably hate hop character. Perhaps they add an infinitesimal amount of hop extract three times during brewing?
  8. ^Overall, I agree that Sam Adams is a pretty good brewery. However, I just don't think most of their offerings stand up to those from the top tier breweries. I'm actually drinking their Holiday Porter right now, and it's a good, but not great, porter. I had Great Lakes' Christmas Ale this weekend, which was quite nice. FFF Gumballhead is a very good American style wheat, although I found the lemony note almost astringent. Tyranena's Sheep Shagger was quite good as well. As I was at the In-Laws' this weekend, I decided I'd do a swill sampler to help them clear their fridge. My wife bet me I couldn't finish any of them. Here are the results: 1) Pacifico - Bad, boring, insipid, but not offensive. I was able to drink the whole thing, although it wasn't exactly enjoyable. 2) Heineken - This really sucked. I don't know what they use to brew this stuff, but it tastes like straight urine corn water. Had to pour a few ounces. 3) Milwaukee's Best Ice - Vomit. This is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst beer I've had in the last few years. I could only drink an ounce or two.
  9. Sad to see. I first saw Airplane when I was no more than 10 years old. What a classic.
  10. ^That's funny, I picked up a 12-pack sampler of Sam Adams at the store the other day as well (I'm in Iowa and it was on sale from $12.99). So far I've had their Fezziwig, a spiced winter ale, which was better than average, but cloyingly spicy, their Chocolate Bock, which had a cloying cocoa powder flavor, Boston Lager, which is okay, and their White Ale, which is quite poor. I still have yet to find a wit that I'm wild about. Ommegang's was decent, but nothing to write home about. Brewmasters was fun, but I don't know if a whole series will be too much. I'd rather see a series where they highlighted one brewery each week, but that'll never find mainstream television.
  11. Up? You know, one of these days us folks on BF should bid on one of these teams. I'll throw in a few hundred dollars.
  12. If Witrado posted on this message board, we'd probably assume that he's a troll from NSBB. What a clown.
  13. One has to wonder how much value Derek Jeter adds to the Yankees simply by being Derek Jeter. On the field, over the course of a four year deal, I'd expect his value to be no more than 48 million (15-13-11-9), and I think that's a bit generous. Is it possible that Jeter adds $5 million per year in press relations, fan relations, merchandise, etc? I'm not sold, but it isn't completely unreasonable to think so. The guy is more valuable to the Yankees than to any other franchise right now. He'd be very smart to take 3/45 or 4/52 if it's offered. Here's to hoping Jeter rejects the Yankees deal, searches for a 6-year/$120mil deal, and the Yankees refuse to negotiate with him. Then Dayton Moore swoops in and applauds his 4y/$70MM free agent signing, who will finish his career a Kansas City Royal.
  14. I agree with you. That's a guy I'm not disappointed to see leave the division. As for Barmes, although he really isn't you know, that good at baseball, I feel like he's the type of annoying little player that will kill the Brewers. The name just sounds annoying.
  15. But Lee only won 12 games, to Felix's 13! Yeah, Lee deserved it. David Price didn't deserve to finish second. C.C. didn't deserve to finish third. I just can't wait to see the individual ballots filled out. Edit: Wait, only three people thought Cliff Lee was one of the FIVE best pitchers in the AL! That's horrendous. How can you justify five guys being better than Lee? I can see Felix, maybe Verlander. Maybe an argument could be made for Weaver? Seriously though...
  16. This isn't too bad. Really, the guy who deserved the award won unanimously. Does anybody know who voted for Bronson Arroyo? That decision was obviously well thought out.
  17. Atlanta was swindled! They gave up a true All-Star for a guy that couldn't even make fewer than three errors in an All-Star game! Uggla profiles as a type A who will most likely reject arbitration next offseason and garner the Braves 2 picks, correct? If so, this seems like a really solid deal for the Braves. If not, this seems like a good deal for both clubs.
  18. What a fail. I remember one year (2008?) that Haudricourt voted Braun higher than Pujols in MVP voting. If I were a voter, I'd select Russell Branyan for every award in every league in every sport on every planet in every galaxy in every universe.
  19. My gut tells me this is definitely illegal. I highly recommend you do not do this unless you receive written permission from someone with Major League Baseball. I wouldn't want to see you rack up some fines for copyright infringement for this relatively innocent endeavor!
  20. ^ I totally understand your feelings on Apple Ale. I personally enjoy it, but I'm pretty disappointed to see it released as an unplugged. I just hope for more interesting offerings from the unplugged series, like their Berliner Weiss or their Smoked Porter. And yes, I agree with you on the bocks. I like Uff-da, but Cabin Fever bores the heck out of me.
  21. That seems incredibly low. Is that batting runs above average position player? If we determine pitcher batting value as runs above an average pitcher, Gallardo is probably 6-8 runs better. An 8 run reduction in earned runs would drop his ERA to 3.45 from 3.85. It's not huge, but having pitchers like Gallardo certainly does provide value. I wonder pitcher batting ability is in any way, shape or form priced into contracts.
  22. New Glarus had a sneak peak of their schedule up. Nothing on the schedule terribly interesting. Happy to see Uff-Da, Dancing Man, and Moon Man back, disappointed to see Two Women, Snowshoe, and Back Forty, which I find a bit dull. http://newglarusbrewing.com/images/2011brews.jpg Also, I don't know how accurate this thread is from BA, but it sounds like they'll be releasing a Kristallweizen, a Black IPA and Two Women Lager next year. They will also apparently be releasing two "thumbprint" beers to go along with the four unplugged beers. I'm intrigued by Two Women Lager, although I usually find pilsners boring. They'll also apparently be re-releasing Imperial Weizen (score!), Smoked Rye Porter, and Cranbic.
  23. Luis, Gomez and Escobar were benched because they weren't hitting. Yovani Gallardo was not benched because he was performing well. [/blue]Kottaras was benched because Macha hates greeks.[blue/] Sincerely, Doug Melvin
  24. It's amazing how quickly the expletive hits the fan when words like those are uttered here on BF. I obviously don't agree with his philosophy, but I'll wait to judge him. I really want to like this guy based on what little I know about his character, so hopefully he was exaggerating things a bit.
  25. Mr. Favre got this one stuck in my head. Oh, and before you judge me, as you rightfully should for having heard this song, be informed that I did not intentionally listen to it.
