  1. Seriously Melvin? You couldn't have brought Jeffress up one day earlier so he would be eligible for the playoffs? DFA Melvin.
  2. Lucroy's fine, and Kottaras is a fine backup. Lucroy's walk rate in AA in 2009 was around 15%, so I'm hoping he'll take some more walks as he gets more comfortable in the majors (is it just me, or are guys often less patient when they first break into the majors? I haven't read into it, but it sure seems like a lot of guys try to prove they can hit once they get to the majors).
  3. I wonder how the pitchers feel about this. Would it be acceptable by MLB rules to close the half-roof when the Brewers are at bat and open the half-roof when the opponents are at bat? You know, kind of like turning off the air conditioning on a 100 degree day in the visitors' dugout in Miami.
  4. For a long time I thought Parra's BABIP should project somewhere around .315 - .320, but after seeing him put up that .350 career BABIP in 444 innings, I see him as more of an anomaly than a victim of bad luck. A lot of explanations have been proposed over and over again (mostly his brutal fastball). I don't know why it is, but I'm uncomfortable attributing it to luck. The HR/FB% does seem to be quite high for Parra, but again, his career rate of 12.8% is pretty high. I typically try to avoid saying things like "guys just hit him hard, center on his pitches, he serves meatballs", given that meatballers don't typically exhibit higher rates for BABIP or HR/FB. Who knows with this guy. He's quite the enigma (mmm...Enigma...).
  5. If you were playing FIFA 07, I'd say go with Santos. I tore up the Brazilian league with Mascherano, Tevez, and Nilmar! I'd go with Schalke if you choose the German route. They have a huge stadium and fans that will pack it, a huge determinant of long-run dominance. A club with great history like Moenchengladbach could be fun, but I don't see them dominating in the future. Just remember that whatever team you pick in the Bundesliga, they'll take a backseat to Bayern Munich for quite some time. Given that your roommates already have the Bundesliga, EPL, and La Liga covered, you could take a club from France or Italy. Olympique Marseille and Inter have had success recently, and are generally well-run clubs. Just don't be "that guy" and choose Man U. Although it would make your relationship with your Liverpool roommate quite funny.
  6. Maybe he's just a big Persi Diaconus fan. Man oh man are the Pirates brutal. I can't even imagine how much it must suck to be a Pirate fan.
  7. Probably. This is the same John Kruk who toughed his way through an entire 152 games in the 1991 season. Kruk and Dibble are two of the biggest oafs on TV today (putting it nicely), and that's definitely saying something.
  8. I really don't understand ragging on Gallardo for being out at that hour. He's a young guy who for the most part works late nights. The guy was just getting some food. Are we seriously going to criticize him for this? I know these statements should be taken with a grain of salt, but Gallardo really seems to have his head on straight. It's great to have guys like him on this team (well, he's a pretty decent pitcher too).
  9. Agreed. Everybody knows I'm pretty bearish about Dave Bush's abilities, but at this point in the season I don't see the reason to not have him in the 5-hole to limit innings. Maybe something else is up?
  10. I met Jeremy Jeffress outside a game in 2005? It was the year he was drafted. He signed my hat. He was friendly, seemed like a normal 18 year old kid who was a bit shy, if anything. That's all I've got.
  11. I'd move to the Twins eventually. However, they'd never take the #1 spot on my personal rankings. Right now, they go 1) Brewers 2) Canucks 3) Packers. They'd switch to 1) Canucks 2) Packers 3) Twins. Luckily we don't have to worry about this anytime in the near future. Unless the classic baseball hotspot Orlando gets their way.
  12. But Kenley played catcher in the minors! Seriously though, call ups will be here in a few days and he had already given six innings. What was the point of bringing him back out?
  13. Don't know, game isn't on TV. Judging by Cory's voice it sounded good enough to be a hit, but Blake made a nice play on it. It was down the line but had a little too much on it. Blake was cheating in, he charged and made a very nice barehanded play to get Cain by almost a full step.
  14. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs141.ash2/40381_1424887354646_1606620031_31252959_2037808_n.jpghttp://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs398.snc4/46087_1424887234643_1606620031_31252957_3299337_n.jpg Here are a couple pictures of my guy after a run. He's 11 weeks now.
  15. It's still not on MLBTR. I'm starting to doubt the legitimacy of this as well. Hopefully I have to eat my words.
  16. I know Trevor doesn't have an assignment bonus in his contract, but would it be legal for Melvin to work out a deal saying something like 'You go to the Sox, we'll give you $1,000,000"? Hoffman has about $2.3 million left, including his buyout, and he figures to have little on the field value to the Brewers at this point. What's the deal with the Sox and August waiver claims? First Alex Rios, now Hoffman, and they've also announced they'll put a claim in on ManRam if he hits waivers.
  17. “I’m the best centerfielder on the team." Oh Carlos. You're quickly replacing Johnny Estrada as the Brewer who annoys me most. There's a reason you got booed after a pop out last night.
  18. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Great for Odorizzi and the Rats, but I can't believe I decided against going to this game. Tonight was Kraft singles 2 for 1 night which meant that I could have went with my wife and sat five rows behind home for $12 total! Odorizzi is blowing away the league at 20. I can't wait to see this guy in Milwaukee. If only my puppy knew that I skipped this game to take him to the park tonight.
  19. Mine are in. I skipped Inglett, Gerut, and throwing for Cain as I haven't seen enough to rate them with any accuracy. I seriously hope Braun's 5 rating was given for his sprint speed.
  20. 1. Chicago Cubs. From their fashionista frat-boy fans to their urine soaked ballpark, I love hating this team. I'm really enjoying watching their chase for 100 losses this season. 2. St. Louis Cardinals. Does this really need explaining? Brandon Phillips summed up my feelings pretty well. 3. Boston Red Sox. Again, this is really just because of their obnoxious bandwagon fans around here. I respect their front-office and what they've done with the club recently. For me, as you can tell, it mostly comes down to the fans.
  21. While being somewhat reasonable, here's what I want to see happen: AL East: Rays AL Central: Twins AL West: Rangers Wildcard: Yankees NL East: Phillies NL Central: Reds NL West: Giants Wildcard: Padres Rays over Rangers Twins over Yankees Phillies over Padres Reds over Giants Phillies over Reds Rays over Twins Rays over Phillies
  22. Narveson and Parra have both had pretty disappointing seasons, and at this point I'm not comfortable writing either of them into the team's plans for next season as starters, although perhaps Narveson could fill the 5th spot. At this point, I'd like to see Parra sent to the pen. As badly as I have hoped for him to succeed as a starter, I just don't see it happening with the Brewers at this point. Perhaps there is a team that would be willing to take him for a low-level chip in the offseason, but I'd rather see him come out of the pen next year. There really isn't anyone in AAA right now who I would consider giving a start to, perhaps with the exception of Narron simply because he's been toiling in the minors for so long. Perhaps Rivas is a decent candidate. I also wouldn't mind Capuano getting a couple more starts, although I really doubt his ability to hold up over an entire season as a starter.
  23. Another bad signing that it will be nice to forget. Even if Riske had been projected as a 3.50 ERA guy, his contract would have been too large for him. Riske had one very good season (2003) but otherwise he has been a pretty average reliever. Why spend $4.5 per year on a guy like Riske when you can get that production off the scrap heap? Hopefully Melvin has learned his lesson on mediocre relievers by now. Hawkins was an overpay, but not nearly as bad as Riske. With Trevor's struggles and the dominance of Axford/Braddock, maybe he'll decide to allocate some of his cash away from the bullpen, where it is almost always inefficiently used.
  24. John Axford: 1.2 IP, 4 K! That was a .235 WPA save. Too bad he couldn't get that elusive fifth strikeout!
  25. Carlos Marmol's 9th inning today: BB K BB BB K 3-RBI Double K Cubs lose 5-3. If they finish 12-27, they will lose 100. Assuming they have a 40% chance of winning each game from here on out, their chance of losing >100 is 8.82%. Those are certainly not "unreasonable" expectations.
