  1. Glad to see that they're leaning towards Kottaras. Having a back-up catcher who can put up a line of .230/.320/.400/.720 for $400K a year sounds good to me. The optimist in me sees a very solid Kottaras/Lucroy tandem in the near future.
  2. If Suppan is stealing from the Brewers, isn't Attanasio stealing from Gallardo as well? Mark Attanasio, the Milwaukee Brewers management, and Jeff Suppan agreed to that contract. When long-term contracts are agreed upon, risks and benefits are thoroughly considered. Some contracts which look completely asinine at the time of signing (Ibanez) turn out to be pretty decent, while others can completely backfire. General Managers generally understand these things, and so do agents. Doug Melvin understands that the Suppan signing was a bust. Mark Attanasio is a smart enough guy to realize this as well. I just don't see what booing Suppan accomplishes.
  3. I think hot-headed fits Milton Bradley better.
  4. For whatever reason, I'm happy to see Mauer staying in Minnesota. Here's to hoping for continued success for Mauer over the next 8 years.
  5. If the Brewers don't give a grizzly veteran like Edmonds 500 PA's, they are clearly being a disrespectful, unclassy organization. Edmonds probably just couldn't stomach playing for an organization that is such a disgrace to baseball.
  6. What is used to calculate VORP? I have my doubts that Bush and Parra were that far below replacement level last year. I'd peg Suppan for the pen at this point, with Gallardo, Wolf, Davis, Parra, Narveson rounding out the rotation. I think the Brewers would be wise to take the gamble on Parra and Narveson, given their current position in the division. With absolutely nothing to back it up, I'd say there's probably a 90% chance of Suppan being between -1 and 1.5 WAR next year, Bush a 90% chance of being between -1 and 2 WAR. Parra I'd give a 90% shot at being between -2 and 4 WAR, and Narveson a 90% shot at being between -1 and 3 WAR. I think it's a gamble that's well worth taking.
  7. Does anybody have a good idea who will round out the AAA rotation? A recent JS Blog said Loe, Estrada, and Lofgren would be starting. Assuming Butler starts as well, is anyone a lock for the fifth spot?
  8. The Washington Nationals released him. I'm not saying their management is infallible, but this seems to be a strong signal that Dukes is just as much of a nut-job as we all thought.
  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/...Brewers&dh=0&season=2005 Without a doubt my favorite Derrick Turnbow memory. Went to the game with my brother and two of my friends, all of us sporting Derrick Turnbow jersey shirts. With the team down 5-4 in the top of the 9th, Turnbow came in to strike out the side. In the bottom of the 9th, Fielder hit a 2-run walk-off.
  10. Does anybody know how many options Lofgren has left, or how they work with Rule 5 picks?
  11. Agreed. Unless Philly throws in their entire farm system, this ain't gonna happen.
  12. I'll give Sheets more time. Spring training is spring training; if I remember correctly Sheets was notorious for getting shelled in spring.
  13. If Suppan can pitch the whole season, he's got a pretty good shot at 30-35 HR's, and perhaps an outside shot to do what even Braden Looper could not (40).
  14. Edmonds, Gerut and Counsell are going to be in the lineup nearly every day? Is that supposed to be in blue? Gomez, Hart and Weeks/Escobar gonna be on the bench a lot?I think what pepsi meant is that one or more of {Edmonds, Gerut, Counsell} will be in the lineup nearly everyday. That wouldn't surprise me at all, as I could see Gerut and Hart splitting time pretty quickly if Hart struggles.
  15. Lofgren's numbers in the high minors have been mediocre at best. Parra was dominant in the minors. Parra's career FIP in the majors is 4.40; his xFIP 4.23. Lofgren's was 5.11 in AAA last year. Oh, and FWIW, Suppan wasn't the worst pitcher on the Brewers last year; that honor goes to Braden Looper.
  16. No love for Jamie Moyer? Besides him, Brooks Kieschnick comes to mind. Nyjer Morgan, Andrew McCutchen, Russell Branyan, to name a few others.
  17. Gamel has options and is ticketed for Nashville, so that he's ahead of Iribarren on the list is irrelevant.. Inglett has more major league experience and some major league success but not more talent based on comparable minor league numbers he had at Iribarren's age.Why is that irrelevant? Gamel pushes him further down on the depth chart at 3rd base. Having Gamel, even if he is in the minor leagues, decreases the club's need for a player like Iribarren.
  18. Even if he wasn't given a shot, there just isn't room for Iribarren on the club in the near future. As a middle infielder, he was behind Escobar, McGehee, Gamel, Weeks, Counsell, and likely Inglett as well. This is probably best for Iribarren and the organization. As for Lofgren...I won't lose any sleep over his departure. I'm just hoping Schochoenweissss doesn't make the team. Hopefully his strong spring performance doesn't take precedence over his years of dismal MLB performance.
  19. Is there any word on Lilly? Watching their ST game on Sunday, I think I heard Lou mention that he may be out until mid-May.
  20. Strange to see Eric Chavez playing again. I had just about forgotten he was still around.
  21. I'd never seen him in anything but his uni, so it's kind of hard to judge, but he certainly does not look like an athlete, to say the least.
  22. I didn't want to see either Sweden or Canada, but Slovakia I'm okay with. I can't believe how well Slovakia has played after completely falling off the map over the past five years, falling to ninth behind Switzerland and Belaurus, neither of whom have near the NHL talent that the Slovaks have. It's just a matter of whether or not Jaroslav Halak can keep the Canadians out of the net.
  23. Hopefully it will be easy to find streams online to some of the games this year.
  24. Reiterating what others have said, having a 6-man rotation would leave each pitcher (assuming no starts are missed) starting 27 games, rather than 32. However, I could see doing something like this: Gallardo: 32 Wolf: 32 Davis: 32 Parra: 26 Bush: 24 Suppan: 14 This could be done by simply skipping Parra or Bush every few starts. They could skip Parra more often if he struggled, or less often if he threw the ball well.
