  1. My parents drove down to NC for Thanksgiving this year and brought a whole bucket of goodies. New Glarus Laughing Fox, FFF Alpha King, FFF RobBruce, NG Black Top, NG Belgian Red, NG Moon Man, Ambergeddon. Black Top is one of the better BIPA's I've had, but I'm not completely sold on the style yet. Laughing Fox is outstanding, I always thought Kristal Wheats were pretty much supposed to suck. Moon Man is Moon Man. I had been wanting to try Founders' Backwoods Bastard for some time now, and I finally found a bottle down here. I just can't turn down anything with an axed bearded man on the front.
  2. Boy let's hope so. This brings the quality of PED testing into question, among several other issues. Two thoughts: First, the most likely: Braun really is on something. He wasn't caught until this year. Not in the minors or five seasons in the majors. If these tests take so long to catch somebody, how many guys are still using? Second, there's the obvious (but slim) chance that Braun is being honest here. Let's hope this is the case.
  3. Usually this type of title refers to the other Ryan Braun, former KC Royal. Oh, bananas.
  4. Oh boy. Must. Resist. Urge. To. Make...Mediocre wisecrack. I don't see why we shouldn't be excited about this. If we peg Yuni at -.5 WAR and Gonzo at 2 WAR, that's a 2.5 WAR improvement. That would be like signing Pujols to replace Fielder. So really, we just signed Pujols to a 1-2 year deal worth about $3 million dollars. Since Pujols is worth 9 WAR, and our deal is like signing Pujols, the Brewers just bought 9 WAR on the FA market for ~$2.5 million. That's like $275,000 per WAR. Thus, Alex Gonzalez may be the greatest signing the Brewers have ever made. Can we start the fan club yet?
  5. http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRoawtNmx0fWY7iLaQG-Ecp11-sATVjYTi1Lv0LTkeAhpmc4vqs I know it's only Alex Gonzalez, but still. NO MORE YUNI!!!!
  6. I'm betting STL fans will still have positive feelings towards the guy. At least I'd hope so given what he's done for that club. FWIW, ESPN has been talking Tebow more than Pujols this morning.

  8. With K-Rod signing now, the can't afford to spend that type of cash on a guy like Hawkins. He's a fine relief pitcher, but that money can be much better served elsewhere.
  9. This market just continues to thin out. I know 2/6 seems pricey for an aging guy like Hairston, but it would be well worth avoiding another season of Yuni and McGehee.
  10. Nice slate of games today. Starting off with UNC-Kentucky. If UNC can pull this one off, they should move up a couple of spots in the rankings. I had no idea Marquette was supposed to be any good this year, so that should be a good game as well.
  11. Between 1989 and 2004, Cirillo was the only 6+WAR player. That's surprising. Even as a newb baseball fan in 2004 I never understood why Sheets' lack of wins should have precluded his Cy Young candidacy. Whatever metric you prefer, FIP, xFIP, ERA, all were between 2.65 and 2.80. Dude could pitch.
  12. I think I'm going to try the walk-up line for the UNC game tonight, so we'll see how that goes. I was at the Tennessee State game Tuesday and it was a great time; I had never seen a college basketball game played at that speed, having grown up in Madison. UNC has a history of talented teams dropping games early in the season. It seems like they sometimes need a bit of time to come back to earth before they can really play solid ball. It wouldn't shock me to see UW win tonight, but calling them the favorite seems a bit odd.
  13. I don't think a #10 vote for Fielder is too bad if pitchers are included. I think there would be justification to putting any of the following ahead of Prince: Kemp, Braun, Upton, Votto, Tulo, Reyes, Halladay, Kershaw, Lee. Personally though, I'd have slotted him in 5th or 6th and I'm a guy who really values defense.
  14. Good for Braun. Normally my excitement would be reserved for a Brewer winning the Cy or the MVP due to the (potential) increase in cost of keeping the guy around, but with Braun that obviously isn't a problem. Let's take a minute to remember just how awesome Braun was this season: Stat (NL Rank) wRC+: 179 (1) wOBA: .433 (1) SLG: .597 (1) OBP: .397 (5) AVG: .332 (2) SB: 33 (7) RBI: 111 (4) R: 109 (2) HR: 33 (6) H: 187 (5)
  15. Not to mention, I can just see the Plush being a huge sensation on the South Side. He's probably too good to be their prototypical speedster though.
  16. That's more than I thought he'd get but I'd still have liked to see the Brewers ink him to that deal (assuming Reyes isn't coming to Milwaukee). It's going to be scary if this market continues to thin out...
  17. I enjoyed the snarky .gif. Last night I had a dream that Fielder signed with the Brewers for 4-years $78 million. I'd be down with that type of signing!
  18. I only remembered it because of the Misty May comments. I'm going to go ahead and beef up my resume so I can send it to the Dodgers. If Treanor can get $1 million guaranteed, I'm sure I can at least get a spring training invite.
  19. http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l2bdmzmmMk1qbmsz9o1_400.jpg Let's try to avoid this for just one season.
  20. Outside of not being very good at baseball, Kotsay was a pretty likable fellow. Now, here's to signing some 22 year old, inexperienced felon that can actually play the outfield and can't lay down a bunt for the life of him.
  21. That seems a bit steep for Kemp. He really struggled the season before last.
  22. This seems like a slight overpay. I'm not sure if anybody else would have offered him more than $2.5-$3 million. He's a decent player, but I wouldn't be too thrilled about this if I were a Pirates fan. At this point, is he their starting catcher?
  23. Ali G made him very cranky (I think this is SFW, but maybe NSFW).
  24. Good riddance. Dippin' Dots were a disgrace to ice cream.
  25. I saw on MLBTR that his option was declined. He hit .250/.330/.540 in ~120 PA's last year, and he's still a pretty decent defender as far as I know. Is there any interest among my fellow Brewerfanners about bringing Mr. Blanco back to Milwaukee?
