  1. I love how this board has people on both sides of this trade. Never change BrewerFan. I am in favor of it as I have stated but am interested in our Minor league expert posters on their thought as they know the prospects better than I do.
  2. Ya but Stanton has a monster $325 million deal which gets factored into the trade as there are not many teams who can pick up that tab
  3. I always said what are we going to do with all these outfielders? Santana is legit so there is 1 spot. I have always felt Braun will be able to play out his whole contract and keep his average high enough. So that just leaves centerfield. And now Yellich can play there for at least 5 years. Phillips becomes the #4 and will get plenty of ABs (for now) by being a lefty and subbing for Braun once or twice a week
  4. Listening to 1250 - they are saying a report has Brinson and Diaz
  5. Topper - those are good points. Especially on the protected monopoly. But that is a problem in all sports it's just exaggerated in MLB as you get to see large markets capitalize on just being in a big market. What if we said the US could only have 30 craft breweries. And only 2 of those craft breweries could sell their product in NYC. Would that represent a competitive advantage to just those two breweries? Of course. Purely based on volume. MLB, NBA, NFL remain leagues that are a protected monopoly. I agree with the Packers model, but good luck prying these teams from the owners hands. That won't happen, so it leaves you with a direction to even the playing field through salary caps and drafting rules. But then there's the players side and good luck from trying to restrict or limit their income. Like I said before, I have no idea what the solution is. These sides go through collective bargaining but neither will give up their top level position of making money as that is and always will be the most important part to players and owners.
  6. The astro's play in the 6 largest city in north America. They are far from small market. They may only be ranked ~15 in payroll but that is a direct result of great drafting and team building. But they certainly have the money to retain all their talent. And that represents a problem. Actual small market clubs have to pick and choose and make sacrifices. And a Jeff Suppan contract can handicap them for years. Where a large market team can just DFA him and move on and purchase another arm.
  7. I am all for fixing it, I just don't think there is 1 solution. There are problems but on the face of it are these statistics pasted below. I can upload my excel chart showing the calculations but from 2008 - 2017 these are the stats: This shows the # of teams who make their leagues championship game ranked by team payroll. Over those 10 years, there are 40 teams who have made the championship game. Some teams have made it multiple times. But the fact remains, there is a direct correlation to spending and making your leagues championship when 65% of the teams who make their championship game are in the top 10 in MLB in team payroll. Team Payroll Rank between 1 - 10: 26 (65%) Team Payroll Rank between 11 - 20: 6 (15%) Team Payroll Rank between 21 - 30: 8 (20%) I am a data guy and you have to use data to tie it to your emotion. I have always thought there was a problem, but the data shows there is a big problem in my opinion.
  8. Irish Fest will probably run 8/16-8/19 but all festival dates are TBD for now. http://county.milwaukee.gov/FestivalEvents I assume the Cincy and/or Pitt series is on your radar. So then it depends on what else the kids are looking for. Roller coasters are an hour south at Six Flags Great America. They also have Key Lime Cover for a mini indoor water park. Mentioned above Country Springs, Wi Dells, Koehler Club and Grand Geneva are all great places but only Country Springs could you consider being in Milwaukee as it is in a bordering County so it’s close comparatively to the others. The Sprecher Soda/Beer tour is pretty cool for the kids probably not for the teenager. Teenagers are tough on what they want to do. My teenage girl would want to shop, tan and eat good food. There are boat tours on Lake Michigan as well- like the Edelweiss. https://www.edelweissboats.com/
  9. The Grand Geneva is the best resort in the area but it is an hour drive from downtown Milwaukee
  10. I am surprised he signed a 1 year deal - good for the Crew
  11. While I like Trwi7's alignment we could just go for State / Border Battles and re-do this whole thing: Used this map: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e6/85/81/e6858111aff2517276dc4874331094ae.jpg North East: New York, New York, Boston, Montreal East: Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington North: Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Toronto Midwest North: Minnesota, Milwaukee, Chicago, Chicago Texas vs Florida: Florida, Tampa, Texas, Houston Midwest: Atlanta, Kansas City, St Louis, Colorado North West: Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Oakland South West: Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Diego, Arizona
  12. I like Trwi7's alignment. The NFL has it right and just follow suit. (even for the playoffs: 6 teams.) People make the argument well teams don't want to sit, but they are already sitting. The season ended on Sunday and LAD, WAS and CHC didn't play until Friday. For playoffs take the top 4 division winners and 2 wild card teams and you can do a 3 game series for seeds 3 through 6. Seeds 1 and 2 get a "bye" and instead of starting on Friday, start on Saturday. Here is an example Season ends on a Sunday. Monday is open for tie breakers. but would need to figure out how to break multiple ties. Could always push 3 game series start to Wedensday - Friday on this rare scenario Division winner would get all 3 games at home, start on Tuesday, done by Thursday. Win the division. Wild cards don't get home games. 6 @ 3, 5 @ 4 Would need Friday open for rain makeup. Then start playoffs on Saturday. (pushes divisional round back 1 day). Seed 6, 5 or 4 @ 1 and then seed 5, 4 or 3 @ 2.
  13. 100 % agree. MLB the only sport that allows unlimited timeouts
  14. He is out - foot popped off - what are you doing with that kind of secondary lead
  15. Leave it to an ex Brewer to go first pitch hacking after 2 straight walks. Jeez - what are you thinking
  16. You know what bugs me. That the MLB at bat app resets the batting average and OPS for the post season. I really don't care that you are batting 1.000 in the playoffs or are batting 0.000. Fairly pointless IMO.
  17. Just creating a spot to post some of the notes from the year end conference. Stearns announced the whole coaching staff will return.
  18. With all the booster clubs / shady deals going on in NCAA it would make sense this goes on at the pro level. I guess I never really thought about it, but what is stopping a player for taking less money and then getting an "endorsement" from a local company that gets reimbursed by the team in some fashion and thus off their "books." I wonder if MLB audits the major customers list for a team and then compares that list to endorsements signed by players on their team. Not sure what authority MLB has or what level they can audit one of the clubs under their umbrella. These are privately owned entities. Will be interesting what the punishment will be. I agree, it should be high
  19. Yep - need a win. Need to salvage series and that begins today.
  20. No - he just slid hard and when he exchanged hand to foot on base he popped off
  21. Yeah I just said this to my father five minutes ago. It seems pretty sad. I get the market of Cubs fans is much larger than ours but it just doesn't sit well. And in what environment does the 5th largest city in North America (3rd largest City in the US) sit 1-2 hours from the 31st largest. I always find it odd how this shocks people. Cost of living is higher in Chicago, which means drastically cheaper seats in MKE compared to what they pay at Wrigley.
