  1. I was going to suggest Bill Hall.
  2. Yes, our offensive production has been pretty offensive. Perhaps a change in our hitting coach is needed? They can fire Coles if they want, but nothing will change until they get better hitters.
  3. I totally had forgotten for like a year now that Doug Melvin is actually still employed by the Milwaukee Brewers until I saw this post. What the heck is his job again? Probably show up for half a day, drink coffee, and then spend the afternoon golfing.
  4. Reading through all the people questioning the bullpen management and short leashes for starters and I can't help but think, none of this would matter if the offense wasn't utter crap. The Brewer's have allowed the 4th fewest runs per game in the league. That stat blew my mind. The Astros are running away with that stat but the Brewers are .1 r/g out of second. The current combination of pitching and defense has led to the best run prevention this team has had in years, probably decades. The team ERA and ERA+ are right around 5th. On the other side of the ball, they are in the bottom half of the league for runs per game, AVG, OBP, OPS, and OPS+. They are exactly league average for slugging. You can complain about pitching management for specific situations but based on run prevention, the Brewers are one of the best in the league. If the offense could at least get to average, pitching decisions should be a lot easier and less "controversial".
  5. [sarcasm]Would Stearns and Melvin be enough?[/sarcasm]
  6. Does any sports TV person, regardless of employer, ever ask anything of substance of athletes/coaches/GM's? No. Sometimes you'll have a football sideline reporter ask the coach about going for it on 4th down or something as they're running into the locker room at half time but that's about it. All you get from those folks is the standard How does it feel, What we're you thinking when whatever happened, Are you excited because of whatever, Did so and so play well stuff. Just puff questions.
  7. As the ever pessimistic, debbie downer Brewer fan I expect them to hang three or four games behind the Cubs for a few weeks. Just close enough to feel like they could overtake them with a good week, yet far enough away that they never will and then around late August completely tank and miss a wild card spot. And all of this will happen whether Stearns makes any significant moves or not.
  8. I doubt Cain will be the best defensive option for CF in 3 or 4 years.
  9. Middle infield has been so utterly crappy this year, if they miss on Machado, just about anyone they acquire (other than the Saladino, Miller types) should be a significant upgrade.
  10. Not one member of the Brewers media asks tough or even interesting or relevant questions. It really is quite a joke and has been for years.
  11. Read a couple different stories about it. Seems like Norris is being a dick and Matheny doesn't care. Not a great situation but I'm sure just about every clubhouse in baseball has a guy doing the exact same thing to a rookie.
  12. Yea Cardinals fans have been clamoring for this for awhile it seems, and the whole Norris/Hicks situation is just unacceptable in my opinion. Matheny seemed to get a real kick out of it too, not good. What is this? I've seen it mentioned a few other places.
  13. Starter, bullpen, doesn't matter when the offense is a steaming pile of crap.
  14. So now that Jesus doesn't get all those days off for the all start break, is that why he isn't playing both games today? You have to think Craig is factoring that into how much he plays. Same with Yelich and Cain. One of those guys certainly isn't going to play game 2. And here you have games this team needs to win and one of the their few hitters that doesn't suck isn't playing and one probably won't the next game. Seems like it would have made more sense to stack your game 1 lineup and try and win that one and then rest some guys for game 2 and put out the crap lineup, not spread it out.
  15. With the injuries, that 5 game sweep is looking more realistic isn't it?
  16. I know Suter had been discussed as an option. Brewers.com has TBA and Anderson as starters.
  17. What about Fiers? He's not much better than anyone we have but I would take him over Miley or Wilkerson when Peralta's innings eventually need to be managed. He's pitching well this year, owed less than $3M, and actually has one more year of team control left. Can't imagine Detroit would want much in return.
  18. Isn't Woodruff the 26th man tomorrow to start on the of the DH games?
  19. He signed an extension and is making $34M this year. I shed zero tears for him.
  20. Two years ago the Brewers sent down Zach Davies over the all star break because his spot in the rotation wouldn't come up and some here lost their minds because Stearns "didn't understand the human side of the game" or something like that. I'm not seeing any outrage over him doing the same thing with Peralta.
  21. My first thought was, our system could be pillaged this offseason even with protecting a few guys. Then when you realize there are only 20 or so guys drafted in the MLB rule 5 and most of those are returned by the end of spring training and only 3 or 4 actually have any chance of sticking with their team long enough to be kept, it doesn't really concern me too much. Kodi and QTC are the only ones I could really see being drafted and lost as they could fill a LOOGY role without messing too much with a team's 25 man makeup.
  22. Starter vs hitter is pretty simple: how many games have we lost because the starting pitching was bad versus how many games have we lost because the offense couldn't do crap? Crappy offense way more.
  23. So you would have been fine with the Brewers leaving Milwaukee? How does "the people who would be forced to foot the bill having a say in the matter" equal "oh so you want the Brewers to skip town??" That's exactly the logic the politicians and owners use. If we don't get the money we'll leave. And somehow the owners don't wind up looking like the bad ones.
  24. Other than Turner Field, what new stadium has been rebuilt in the last 30 years? Texas Rangers ballpark, technically Tampa's if the actually do get a new one, the Diamondbacks were trying to get a new one. I looked into some football stadiums and it's a borderline joke the short life spans some of them had. RCA Dome (Colts) - 25 years Edward Jones Dome (Rams) - still standing but the Rams only played there 20 years and wanted a new place after about 15 years Silverdome (Lions) - only played there 25 years Metrodome (Twins and Vikings) - only lasted about 25 years All of these crappy domes were built within a couple years of each other so maybe the plan all along was for them to have a short lifespan but 25 years seems like an incredibly small amount of time for such an expensive project to be planned for.
