  1. https://sports.yahoo.com/reds-prospects-record-setting-hit-streak-ends-controversial-walk-223216821.html So basically this guy has a 38 game hitting streak and is 0-fer is what is certainly his last at bat. The pitcher first tries to hit him, then the batter swings at 3 pitches, and then the pitcher gives him two no where near the plate for a walk. Benches cleared before the batter got to first. According to the announcers something happened the game before and that's why they did this. The only thing I'm taking away from this is how bad the announcers were. Saying this is a black eye for the Dodgers organization (because Dodgers management ordered their low A team to walk a guy with a hitting streak on the line) and it's terrible for minor league baseball because this streak was such a great thing that brought the player and the team notoriety (first I've ever heard of this streak).
  2. Anyone else see the video of that little league kid hitting a ball about 400 feet? Certainly impressive even though he's got the body of an 18 year old and uses juiced metal bats. While it's not the reason I don't watch the LLWS anymore I do find it annoying that basically every kid hits a homerun, even the 4'5", 80 pound kids. Still half of them can't field an easy ground ball.
  3. I'll agree that I'm glad he didn't go after the big names or even the 2nd tier names, but looking at what those guys got I'm thinking upgrades at our 2B/CF black hole would have been pretty cheap and not effected our future in any way.
  4. They took 2 of 3 on the road from a team that had the exact same record that they did before the series started. They very well could have swept, but they also just as easily could have been swept. Today's loss sucks but I bet everyone on the team is please with how the series turned out.
  5. Isn't Camelback Ranch right next to a shopping center?
  6. All of the locals I have talked to here will not go near Maryvale at night. During the day there are only a small amount of areas in the Phoenix area that I would not go around. There are parts of downtown Phoenix I will not go near during the day or night. I forget what the locals call the Maryvale hospital but it is not a nice nickname for that hospital basically nearly all of the gun shot, stabbings, and other violent crime victims go to that hospital. In general the area around Maryvale is rather nice which is basically the definition of the greater Phoenix area. There are parts of Surprise that are not that good you can go from million dollar homes in anywhere in the greater Phoenix area and then run into am I in a third world country? Maryvale is not as bad as Detroit or Wilmington Delaware but it can be rather bad late at night. There is a reason why the Brewers don't play that many games in the evening at Maryvale. Does playing night games at home matter? If the Brewers don't play any because the neighborhood sucks then what's the reason the Giants only played 2 night games in downtown Scottsdale this past March? The Rockies and Dbacks combined to play 1 night game at Salt River and that's a great location with Talking Stick and Top Golf across the freeway. The Cubs played 2 at Sloan. Who cares what happens at night in Maryvale - nothing ever happens during the morning/afternoon when games are played. Has anyone ever heard of anything happening....serious question....because I've never seen nor heard anything. I'm only going off of memory but I think some players' cars got broken into a few years ago plus the whole serial murder that was on the lose for like a year. Obviously both extreme ends of the spectrum but I really don't remember anything else.
  7. 2nd and 3rd with no outs, tie game in the 9th. The only way that isn't an automatic bunt is if you've got 3, 4, or 5 up. Everyone else shouldn't even have to ask.
  8. Totally agree. He only gets 1 batter or 3 innings. No in between. And is generally more effective than everyone else.
  9. I don't blame Counsell as much as others but this one is very much on him. Need to bunt Pina and going to Barnes was such plain stupid.
  10. I'm assuming MLB's Gamecast is the only one using Pitch F/X or whatever MLB's system is. The other's I'm guessing are basing it off of the camera view like ESPN's K-Zone.
  11. Doesn't he have a no trade that he refused to waive for a few years? You would think he'd like to go to a contender but he blocked trades to contenders for years until the offseason.
  12. Are there even any hotels in Maryvale? Isn't a residential neighborhood?
  13. What exactly do the other stadiums have that Maryvale doesn't? I've been to Maryvale a bunch and some others a few times and I don't know what the answer is. There's a field, and seats, and concessions. What else do fans need? Sure, the others look shiny and fancy but it's a spring training complex that has major league players one month a year. You don't need 2 levels of seating with all the bells and whistles and (off topic) you shouldn't be expecting the taxpayers to foot the majority of the cost.
  14. What is the not even getting a vote option? He's 30 years old and actually first played in the majors 6 years ago. Throw in the fact that he plays in Milwaukee and I doubt the voters know he exists or is even a rookie.
  15. Glavine also pitched when mid-80's was only just below average. Mid-80's today is 10 MPH below average. Guys just don't see fastballs at that speed anymore and it takes an AB or two to adjust.
  16. What does he do that is so annoying? -Whenever we play the Pirates at PNC Park, he says "Alleganie River" like a million times a game. That would be a good drinking game, take a drink every time he says it, you'll be wasted halfway through the game. Like, we get it, you know the name of the river that's next to the stadium.. I can't speak for other people, but I couldn't care less about some stupid river when I'm watching a baseball game. -Have you ever heard him say the word "amateur"? It's like nails on a chalkboard. -He's a big-time homer. All he does all game long, is praise Brewer after Brewer with unneccesary praise that gets very old fast. - He compares players/praises players based off old-fashioned stats like RBIs, errors, etc. That's funny because I think he's the opposite. He generally gushes over opposing players more than ours but the things he does say about our guys are generally generic stupid unnecessary things like you say.
  17. Susac is the only other catcher on the 40 so I don't know why it would be anyone else.
  18. Thames had an 861 ops in July and is over 1000 in the first 2 days of August. Aguilar ops in July......699 lies
  19. Thames needs about a week off and Aguilar needs about a week of starts. The problem solves itself.
  20. Ya, I've never understood why if an ump feels the need to get in a players face he doesn't toss him before.
  21. Even a blind squirrel can have two good games in a row.
