1. I don't even consider the wild card game to be "making the playoffs" the same way I don't consider teams playing the play-in game for the NCAA Basketball Tournament to have "made the tournament."
2. Williams should have been fired after the whole Pap/Harper fiasco but it's not really his fault the team didn't make the playoffs. Over half of their starting lineup has been injured this year and Strasburg and Fister sucked for some reason. Sounds more like a perfect storm of bad things and then the surprise of the Mets actually fielding a competent team.
3. Mexico City certainly has the population and I would think the financial interests to support a team but their road trips would be terrible. They would have 6+ hour flights away from a lot of other cities. Montreal already has an MLB-ish quality stadium and it certainly seems like there is public support. Other than Monterrey, I think all the other cities already have AAA teams, maybe not in New Jersey though.
4. I think that whenever the DH is universal this type pitching use won't be uncommon. Why wouldn't you already have it in the AL then? Because the pitcher still bats in NL parks which happens frequently now. Also probably because a major change to the game like adding the DH to both leagues would cause some of the really smart teams to take a look at ways they can take advantage of that change. I could see the Pirates doing that especially since they have decided to have their players play less.
5. I guess Brewer fans just can't be happy about anything.
6. I think that whenever the DH is universal this type pitching use won't be uncommon.
7. As long as there are divisions this will happen. You could get rid of divisions but then the East/West Coast teams are at a disadvantage will all the extra travel or you have a severely unbalanced schedule. You could go back to the old one Wildcard format but then you still have the same issue where the wild card team could be better than division winners. The only way to avoid this is to ditch divisions and leagues and just take the teams with the best records out of all 30 teams but I highly doubt that will ever happen.
8. Does Hernandez have any clue what he's doing back there? Is he trying out a new strike zone or something?
9. If you live in Wisconsin, you still can't watch it though. So stupid.
10. Agree about Krod. I'm not sure where the idea that Garza is a jerk came from either. He said some things he shouldn't have in the heat of the moment about a situation that the media played loose with the facts to portray it in the way they wanted it to. It's not like he attacked and choked a teammate in the dugout during a game or anything.
11. Taylor was gassed. There was no reason for him to make those last few starts.
12. Not sure how this compares to other pitchers but it seems to backup my casual observation that Davies throws everything low.
13. Considering that homerun happened almost 60 years ago, I'm sure it is quite embellished.
14. Thing about Davies from what I've seen is everything is knees or below. I don't care how hard or what type of pitch you throw, if the ball ends up there you are more than likely going to have success.
15. Logan's a career 105 OPS+ and totaled 1.3 WAR. Half of his season's he's had negative WAR and he's never posted a positive DWAR. I don't know how much more average and uninspiring you could get. I'd rather just stick Rogers and/or Clark there and get probably the same production for nowhere near the cost.
16. We've got 4 big trees in our yard. The wind blows most of the leaves away since we have a pretty open yard and it's just not worth my time or energy to rake them when it serves no purpose, other than aesthetics I guess. In Spring, I'll clean up whatever's up against the house. Once again, I don't see the point in cleaning up in Fall when I'm going to have to do it again in Spring, whether I rake in Fall or not.
17. Did I not post after this happened that Harper was going to end up being seen as the bad guy in this? What exactly has Bryce done in his career that can warrant the hate he gets? Sure, he's a little arrogant but what professional athlete isn't? His rookie year Cole Hamels drilled him because, well only Cole Hamels knows why, I don't remember Bryce saying anything about it. He put his head down and went to first and then proceeded to steal home off of him.
18. That's how I feel about raking leaves in general. Just go over them when you cut lawn and leave them there. Let nature take it's course over winter and deal with it in spring.
19. I hope there is a cleaning house of the coaching staff. They might not be the problem but many of them have been here since Ron was hired and the team has played the same undisciplined, uninspired baseball the whole time. It's time for some new voices in the dugout.
20. Kris Bryant played 4 positions in a game a few nights ago. I'm not saying that you can just move any guy where ever you want but clubs need to get out of this mindset that players can only play one position at a time. If you are a non-1B infielder, you should be able to play passably at any position other than catcher in a pinch. A small market team like the Brewers, especially, should develop versatile players. Scooter probably doesn't have the bat to be an everyday major leaguer but he should see some time in the OF this spring, probably even 3B. Same with pretty much every other infielder on the roster other than Arcia.
21. I'm mobile so I won't post links bit CJ Nitkowski posted a pretty crappy column defending Papelbom citing former players who all agree with him. He's taking a beating on Twitter (from me too) and basically telling tweeters to stop being babies and they've never played the game so they wouldn't understand. what a joke.
22. Price or Chris Davis alone does not make the 2016 Brewers a contender.
23. Harper won't come out looking bad from that because every single person who knows a thing about baseball knows that Papelbon is a douche. The comments are the MLBTradeRumors website story about this is about 50/50 blaming Harper and Papelbon. I'm sure most of that is from the general hate that Harper gets that I don't understand.
24. Apparently, Williams didn't even know that happened until after the game. I don't know what's worse: keeping him in the game knowing what happened, not knowing it even happened, or lying about not knowing it happened to save face.
