  1. Seems like the vast majority of players that get busted come from Latin America, especially the DR. Is there some sort of language issue, shady doctors, poor manufacturing of whatever stuff they're taking in their home countries, or are Americans just better at beating the tests?
  2. Not a single moment but wasn't Hideo Nomo the Brewers career leader for hits by a pitcher for awhile or something like that.
  3. I got to witness Randy Johnson hitting his only career homerun.
  4. I think it's more complex than that. Wong and Adames are really the only guys (outside of catcher) who should be playing everyday. The other 7 hitters will be determined by matchups, health/rest days, and hot bats.
  5. Not so. "In 2022, a different Rooney Rule applies. Now, the rule requires two interviews of external minority candidates. Thus, even though the Buccaneers have elevated a Black assistant coach to the position of head coach, the process technically violates the terms of the Rooney Rule, since the Buccaneers should have connected a search that included at least two external minority interviews. But there’s a twist, one that previously hadn’t been revealed in nearly 20 years of the Rooney Rule. According to the NFL, the Rooney Rule doesn’t apply after March 1, because coaching staffs essentially become locked on March 1. The Buccaneers couldn’t conduct a search consisting of assistant coaches from other teams, because after March 1 teams are no longer required to allow assistant coaches to interview for head-coaching jobs. Thus, the Buccaneers were able to make a hire without interviewing at least two external minority candidates."
  6. Did the Buccaneers find a loophole to the Rooney Rule? And if so, who will use it now?
  7. I won't even sully this board by posting a link to it but this Homerun Derby X thing is the dumbest thing in a laundry list of dumb things MLB has ever came up with.
  8. He was signed because he can be easily dropped and not have to worry about service time or options or wasting a 40 man spot like with someone already in the organization. Same as Zimmerman and Godley last year.
  9. Some starting OF somewhere will tear an ACL in the next couple weeks and that team will panic and give Conforto a multiyear deal. Generally seems to be what happens with these free agents that hold out into spring training.
  10. I was thinking maybe that too but after I got over COVID I was perfectly fine (except for when I had the flu). The cold started a good two months after having COVID. Good news is I actually feel a bit better today. Throat is still a little sore but my sinus pain seems to be gone. Interesting thing regarding my sinuses and COVID. Every year from about November to April I have on and off horrible, almost debilitating, sinus pain. I've seen all kinds of ENT's about this and been on pills and sprays and had things shoved in my nose but nothing seems to make it better. This fall and winter had been the absolute worst. The pain was almost constant every day. When I had COVID I had the worst sinus pain of my life for a whole day. It was like an elephant was sitting on my head. But when I recovered it was gone and it didn't come back until this cold.
  11. So after a week of just really annoying sinus pain my cold morphed into an incredibly sore throat last night along with the sinus pain. I don't think I've ever been sick this long with no improvements. If anything, it's gotten worse.
  12. Being sick. Had COVID in January. Was really sick for two days and then took a couple days to fully recover. Had the flu in February. Was the sickest I've been in years for about 36 hours and another few days for recovery. Right now I'm going on a week with an annoying cold. Nothing horrible really, just constant sinus pain.
  13. We have low numbers too so, you're right, there's really nothing you can do about it. We talked about the AAU kid after practice last night. All the other coaches wanted to tell him he can be on the baseball team and make it when he can but there's no guarantee he's going to play. Which I countered with by saying then he's going to quit baseball. Totally discounting the fact that he should be one of our best pitchers and one of our better hitters we just need bodies. We've got 10 juniors and seniors and two of those are guys that are going to be missing things. We have underclassmen that definitely could play on varsity but if we take any of them off of JV then we don't have enough for a JV team.
  14. This is my 15th year coaching high school baseball and the last 5 years or so I've noticed a horrible trend that's getting worse of kids missing practices and games. Not no-showing but telling us ahead of time that they have to work or have some other non-school related thing to do instead. We just had a kid give us a whole list of days he would gone because of AAU basketball. So many that there's really not much of a point of him even being on the baseball team. When I first started coaching you could probably count the number of misses for the whole team all season on one hand. Last year we had a kid who worked after school 3 days every week and every Saturday and a few others that would have to leave early on certain days. There were some practices where we only had half the team still there by the time we were done.
  15. Considering how New York created loopholes in their own laws so that TV studios could continue to tape shows in front of audiences back when all this started I can't believe they ever let this actually apply to pro athletes.
  16. If it's like high school, the SP would be listed as DH and SP. So he's essentially DH'ing for himself.
  17. How many games until reports come out that Hill doesn't like playing with a crappy QB and wants out of Miami?
  18. Since the year 2000 the Royals have won a World Series and been to another, the Marlins have won one (and another at the end of the century), the Rays have been to two, and depending on your definition of "small market" the Indians and Rockies have made it too. To say the Brewers will never win a World Series in someone's lifetime is over the top dramatic.
  19. Surprised they did that with the DH but that's been the high school rule for a few years now so it's not something they completely made up.
  20. If your criteria for success it to win the World Series, the fan base of 29 teams are disappointed every year. Which is going to include many of the large markets that throw their financial weight around every offseason.
  21. I think you're giving the general public too much credit to even understand that's going on.
  22. More than likely the same people complaining about not signing "big name" free agents are the same ones complaining that we can't get rid of Cain or the Yelich contract was a mistake and Braun's contract was an albatross.
  23. People moved past Vick and Roethlisberger pretty quickly. If Watson is consistently taking the Browns to the playoffs no one in Cleveland is really going to care. Most likely some other NFL player is going to be accused of something equally or more heinous before the start of next season and people will forget Watson. I can't believe Alvin Kamara assaulting a man for being in his way in an elevator hasn't made more news.
  24. If you haven't faced that reality years ago already, I don't know what to tell you.
  25. I thought contracts had to be paid within a certain percentage of the total every year to prevent cap tricks.
