  1. Ya, Freddie Rodgers is really annoying here.
  2. Small market teams are smart and know that the vast majority of these contracts will be disasters in a couple years. Same as every big contract the Brewers have given out. The only way the CBA could change that would be if contracts were not 100% guaranteed and players could be cut for little or no cost.
  3. Can we stop calling it a ghost runner? Ghosties are when you don't have enough players for a full team and you use imaginary runners on the bases. They are using real people on the bases.
  4. After all the hullabaloo from both sides, did anything really change? I see very minor modifications to service time and a minimum salary raise. I know there's the DH and expanded playoffs but it seems like status quo after months of fighting.
  5. I think the Olson contract itself is a steal. Giving up the prospects hurts, maybe, but factoring money and age that's a total bargain.
  6. Double hook and passed ball hit or whatever are just dumb. Rules that have a whole bunch of "if, then's" are just stupid.
  7. Of all the hitters to have come from Japan, who would have been worth that? Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, and Ohtahi would be about it. Maybe he's worth that. Maybe he's a steal. Just as likely he comes no where close to living up to the contract and is simply an average player at best.
  8. I wouldn't mind seeing the Brewers in that uniform. It's quite snazzy.
  9. Why does it look bad? Olson is pretty much the same hitter as Freeman and is both younger and costs less. Seems pretty smart to me. Signing players for sentimental reasons is how teams get in bad shape.
  10. Calls on the field have to be made immediately because they determine what fielders and runners do next. We can do that with balls and strikes right now. Maybe someday we'll have the technology for tag calls to be made instantaneously by a computer but until that happens there will still need to be 4 umpires on the field.
  11. Just bring on the robo zone. No umps will lose their jobs as you still need an ump at the plate for many reasons. Umps will face a lot less criticism from fans, media, coaches, and players. MLB won't look as bad as it does now when you have blatantly, terrible calls changing the outcome of games. All sides win - MLB, MLBPA, and umps. I don't see how anyone could be against this.
  12. If you already have a "computer" tracking every pitch why bother with challenges? Just let it handle everything. The solution to this is so simple and just like everything MLB does they are making it so complicated.
  13. Pointless move for Washington. Nellie is really going to help propel them to finishing 3rd in their division over the length of the contract.
  14. Just got a free year of Peacock so I've been watching Nitro starting about 1997. Man Hall, Nash, and Hogan were so great at what they did with the NWO.
  15. Look at how he finished last year. At his age, quite likely he's toast. I don't want to risk it unless we are talking super cheap.
  16. What are you basing that on? Big Ben? That was one accusation. This is like 20. He may end up getting 4 games who knows? But I'd be willing to bet a team on the cusp of the playoffs would want to know just how many he's gonna be able to play next year. I don't think Carolina wants to trot out Sam Darnold for 1/3 of the season. I'm sure the league gives assurances to teams about a max suspension just so they can go about their business so yeah there will probably be a trade before any suspension is handed out. Basing it on the precedence that is there no consistency to how long guys get suspended for stuff. My point was whatever the length of his suspension is (if he even gets one) it will not be long enough that teams will shy away from paying up to get him.
  17. If this is not appropriate, mods feel free to delete... My baseball team is doing a squares fundraiser for the men's tournament and we're struggling to sell out the remaining squares. If you're interested and want to help us out send me a PM and I'll get you the details.
  18. Which side is actually in favor of this? Seems like the owners but I can't say for sure.
  19. Will everything transfer over? Old posts, usernames, login info, etc.?
  20. He's getting what 6 games max? Or whatever comes up on the wheel of suspensions. That's not going to stop a team from unloading 1st round picks for him.
  21. So people will now buy a ticket to a baseball game so they can pay some more to play fake golf?
  22. Glad about the options rules for the players but hate it for the Brewers. Are taxi squads gone now and other COVID stuff?
  23. Non-union international prospects ride buses for meager wages too. An international draft removes their freedom to choose whichever organization offers the most money & replaces it with a forced slotting system, which is why the MLBPA is against it. So is the MLBPA fighting to get rid of the amateur draft too?
  24. It's never made sense that US and Canadian players have to finish high school or whatever the rules are and then go through the draft while 16 year old kids from other countries are free agents to the highest bidder. You want to have a different system for guys that played professionally in Cuba or Japan sure but everyone else should enter the league the same way.
  25. When our neighbors moved in 5 years ago the wife was a stay at home mom. About a year after moving she got a job and told us all the money she's making is going to child care now but she had to get out of the house. I've been a stay at home parent for going on 6 years and I'm in the same boat. I need to get out of the house so I've been looking for a job for about the last 6 months. Luckily we have grandparents that can take care of the kids most of the time otherwise whatever money I'd be making from that would go to childcare. Between my wife's friends and mine that have kids most of them have a parent either stay home full time or work only part time. So, yes, I think that arrangement very much going to or already has made a comeback.
