  1. While he's certainly overpaid, he's been (unfortunately) pretty much the best hitter on the team all year. He leads the team in OBP by a wide margin and batting average (if you care about that). He also leads the team or is near the top in all the advanced offensive and baserunning stats. For a team that has struggled offensively for years, just dumping him doesn't seem like a great idea.
  2. Amazing to me how the Brewers hated the guy so much that they employed him for over 4 years.
  3. I really doubt the Brewers give any amount of crap that some barely 4A nobody is shredding them on Twitter.
  4. Funny things happen when you live and work in a small community. I was hired in April. The guy who hired me had offered me a different job at a different place about 7 years ago but I turned it down. I was hoping he wouldn't remember me and that I did that and take it into consideration when making their selection for this job. I don't know if he did or not but it never came up. Since then he's retired. Funny enough, his replacement had rejected me for a job during that job search 7 years ago. The job I'm currently hired for was supposed to be temporary and in my first meeting with my new boss he told he's going to try to get me hired permanently.
  5. Only $212 million? How much money did he leave on the table?
  6. Cardinals pitching has really taken a downturn the last couple years. The acquired toast arms like this last deadline too.
  7. The Rockies have said they aren't trading anybody. This is the time of year when GM's say crap like this but I totally believe the Rockies based on their history. What a horribly run organization.
  8. Why? They already play each other every year and would never play each other in the World Series.
  9. After they trade Soto, Dahl is just the player they need to squeak out another couple of wins to... They already have the worst record in the league and are all but guaranteed a top 3 pick. The signing means absolutely nothing.
  10. I've seen the newborn thing plenty of other places. Are his wife and kid with him on the road too? Do they even live with him in Milwaukee? He's a reliever and sometimes relievers just suck for a little while for whatever reason. Hopefully this is just a short blip and not him being toast as also tends to happen with these guys.
  11. When it's called really depends on the umpire and when it happens. A balk can be a delayed dead ball and the offense is given the choice of taking the result of the play or the balk, same as catcher's inference. EDIT- I think I get what you're saying now that balks should only be limited to while throwing a pitch or to a base. In theory that makes sense but I guess if a pitcher realizes mid movement he's doing a balk he could just not throw the ball anywhere and negate the ability for a call to be made.
  12. I would guess the reason that genre is played most often is because it has wide appeal and is likely to "offend" the least amount of people.
  13. So basically he could be a good hitter if they change everything about his swing? My comment isn't about the Brewers specially but I see way too often this line of thinking in baseball and I doubt it turns out well very often.
  14. I still haven't actually seen a video of the Gustave balk. The only clip I find they are showing the crowd and then the announcers go "that's a balk" and never actually show it. I assumed it was somewhat legitimate since no one got tossed or even put up an argument.
  15. I'd say the bigger problem is they just play the same 10-20 songs from that era over and over. There's lot of good songs and bands but they won't venture out of the Rolling Stones, Journey, Elton John safezone.
  16. By rule, sure, I guess. But what advantage did the pitcher get by doing that? How did that move negatively impact the runners or batters? Not at all.
  17. Pretty much any lefty pickoff throw to first does so with intent to deceive the runner. The balk has a place and a purpose but it also covers some totally pointless and stupid things that it shouldn't.
  18. Davis must be putting up about 100 dWAR a game to find his sub-.600 OPS acceptable for major league regular.
  19. For all the haranguing about losing Grisham after his first season in SD, he's not been good since.
  20. The length of a suspension should be pretty clearly stated based on the infraction. PED's is what 4 games, and then increases each time after that. I think even all the player safety stuff put in a few years ago is clearly defined. All the suspensions for off the field stuff that have happened (Ray Rice, Roethlisberger, etc.) has been all over the place but I've yet to hear about a player negotiating the length of the suspension. Isn't the NFL supposed to hand down a suspension and then the player appeals? It almost seems to me like the NFL knows they have little ground to stand on with whatever they impose and will likely lose big time during an appeal. Why else would they draw this out as long as they have?
  21. Deshaun Watson is negotiating the length of his suspension. Since when are players allowed to negotiate that? And both the player and the league will have the ability to appeal whatever agreement they come to. Seems like the NFL has no clue what it's doing here.
  22. This whole thing is really weird and it seems like all involved (Freeman, agent, Braves) are just putting stuff out there to save face. If Freddy really wanted to stay in Atlanta he would have made sure it happened before it went on as long as it did. If the Braves really wanted to keep him they would have offered him a stupid, albatross contract like so many other teams have done. I really don't see any reason for the agent to have with held information without outside influence. The difference in commission has to be minuscule (relatively speaking).
  23. I haven't worn a watch in at least 10 years. Possibly closer to 15. Because of this, whenever someone asks me what time it is I jokingly look at my wrist and give them an answer. This has become so engrained in my brain that today someone asked me what time it was and I instinctively looked at my wrist in a non-intentionally ironic way expecting to be able to give them an answer and I was disappointed and confused when I couldn't.
  24. Wonder if the union was in the agent's ear telling him he needed to find a bigger contract.
  25. More money and more control over your players. Not surprising.
