  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/rays-announce-preliminary-managerial-candidates.html If the Rays are considering him for their manager spot, do the Brewers add him to their own coaching staff to keep him around? Also, the Rays have to hire Dave Martinez, right? He interviews for practically every managerial opening and he's been Maddon's bench coach almost as long as Maddon was there.
  2. Winning sells tickets. End of discussion. I agree, but much of the budget is based on how tickets are selling in the offseason (things like people deciding whether or not to re-up their season tickets). I think this had a lot to do with Attanasio deciding to sign Lohse and Garza over the past two offseasons, and his refusal to trade away any name the fans know. I'm not going to say that those signings weren't with ticket sales in mind but they were both at the very end of the offseason (one during spring training I think). At that point your budget has been set and you season tickets should almost all be sold.
  3. The big question here is Jason Castro the next to move. Doesn't make any sense to have two starting catchers, even when you have the option of the DH.
  4. Bill Veeck had the fans in the stands manage by voting what the manager should do for one game. They won handily for whatever it matters.
  5. I don't see a reason the Cubs would want to trade him unless they got something really, really good in return. He's incredibly cheap, young, and versatile. That's a player any organization holds on to.
  6. Agreed. I think a case can be made as to whether or not Yadier played enough for consideration. Obviously, the voters don't care about that though because Arenado played 1 more game than Yadier did.
  7. He'd already admitted to taking steroids before, no big news there. I think the bigger issue is the lengths he went to to avoid being caught such as paying for Bosch's lawyer and paying for other Bosch client's PED's to keep him from talking. Another thing I find interesting is ARod getting money from the Yankees to pay Bosch. Could the Yankees be in some pretty hot water for that?
  8. http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/yankees/brad-halsey-former-yankees-and-ducks-pitcher-dead-at-33-agency-says-1.9587050 Former Yankee pitcher Brad Halsey died. He was 33.
  9. Minnesota fans in general are a fickle bunch...nevermind the Royals just missed a title playing small ball. The elephant in the room is forever going to be the Pohlads and their tight pockets. They wormed their way into a brand new stadium, kept it competitive the first year, then down she went. Until they actually raise the payroll to something respectable the Twins will be mediocre to poor. "We're waiting for 2016 when Buxton, Sano, etc are ready." Yeah ok boys. Well they ponied up the cash for Mauer after everyone assumed he was going to Boston. It's looking like that was a huge mistake but they still spent money.
  10. I was reading the comments on the story of his hiring somewhere, I don't remember where. But from what I read Twins fans aren't too thrilled about this because he's basically just an extension of Tom Kelly and Gardenhire with a love of bunting and moving runners over. I was barely born when Molitor was playing so I don't know anything about what kind of player he was, other than really good, does that fit his style?
  11. Toronto was just looking to dump Lind's contract where ever they could. Gallardo and Lohse both have one year left on their contact. One is an average pitcher who is reaching his declining years and the other is 36 years old. Neither of those guys is going to get a substantial prospect on their own. They would need to be paired with someone of value like Gomez. One year of a middle of the rotation starter with a reasonable salary is worth at least a top 50-75 prospect. Gomez would require three top 20 players froma good farm system (a top 15 MLB prospect along with another top 100 MLB prospect and a mid level player). Proven players are valuable to teams looking to contend. Look what we gave up for Marcum. Lawrie was ranked #26 in 2010. I think you are undervaluing Gallardo and Lohse. The Marcum/Lawrie trade was an overpay by the Brewers because Lawrie had fallen out of favor with management. Marcum was also 28, cheap, and had 3 years of team control. Gallardo is about that same age but doesn't have the other two going for him. Lohse has none of them.
  12. Have her start taking Zicam right away. I know that helps me get over colds a lot quicker. I've also been using a NeilMed sinus rinse every day for about the past month, and I find that it helps a lot with clearing up my sinuses. If she is all stuffed up, something like that can help. It's the thing where you mix a saline packet with water inside a bottle and then squirt it up your nose. Yeah, not the most pleasant thing, but I find it helps a lot. They're available at most pharmacies. I used to use mine almost every night until that guy died from getting an infection from his. Haven't use it since.
  13. Beltran and Konerko were both hurt.

  15. Agreed. That trade proposal is laughably bad.
  16. That's what I was wondering too. The position doesn't make it sound like he is taking Seid's job.
  17. It's news because he posted it on the internet. And I wouldn't say he admonished, he more or less humiliated her on social media.
  18. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2250369-san-francisco-giants-are-on-an-incredible-run-which-has-us-redefining-dynasty?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=cnn-sports-bin&hpt=hp_bn15 We aren't the only ones wondering.
  19. How is he not a Brewer already? He fits this team MO perfectly.
  20. The guy just tanked so badly last year compared to the rest of his career and is really only a DH. When you factor in defense he's probably no better than Mark Reynolds. Baseball reference has him at negative defensive WAR every year of his career. Being only 29 should push a few clubs to try and sign him long term and hope 2014 was a bad year taking away any hope the Brewers could get him for cheap or at least what he is actually worth.
  21. This is a good point. 2008 - 72 wins (4th in division) 2009 - 88 wins (5th best record in NL and would have made playoffs in today's format. 3rd place in division.) In 2010, they won their division by 2 games with 92 wins. (5th best record in baseball, but 2nd best in NL and got a 2 seed) 2011 - 86 wins, no playoffs. (6th best record) 2012 - More of the same, won their division and were a 3 seed with 94 wins. (5th best record in MLB and tied with 2 other teams) 2013 - 76 wins, a losing record and no playoffs. 2014 - 88 wins and landed the 5th seed. (Tied for the 8th best record with 2 other teams.) They really have not dominated the league, they have just dominated the post season. (when they make it) ... Which makes it hard to ignore the 3 World Series wins in 5 years. Especially if they get another one in the next few years. I think by default most align "dynasty" with not only winning your league championship but also winning your division on a consistent basis. (Think mid 90's Cowboys, 90's Bulls, 2000 Patriots, late 90's Yankee's) Not only did those teams rack up titles, but they consistently won their division. The Giants are a bit of an odd ball. In the last 10 years, they have won their division twice, but yet have 3 World Series titles over the past 5 years. I think that's what makes it hard to label them a true Dynasty. But in today's day and age of free agency, one does have to marvel at how they continue to perform well on the big stage. Great for them and their fans as this is a decade for the ages for them. This has been part of my thinking for them not being a dynasty. They've never been a dominant team. They've never had the best record in baseball or even the NL. They've only won their division once. They've been a good/solid regular season team that has had the good fortune of winning a bunch of games in the playoffs. Were the Braves that won 11 Division titles in a row and only 1 World Series a dynasty? I don't know but I would put them ahead of these Giants for consideration.
  22. Ummm, can you give us YOUR definition of greatness if the Giants fall short in your world? 3 World Series titles in 5 years IS the definition of greatness, what else can it be? *scratching head* The Yankees had star power, the Red Sox had history and personalities, the Cardinals had "The Cardinal Way" and TLR. Those franchises are either loved or hated by baseball fans. The Giants, not so much. Outside of SF and LA they don't get fans to exhibit emotion one way or the other. The Giants have two superstar players and a bunch of nobody's. They have no pizazz, they're boring. I guess they are like the Spurs like someone mentioned, which I would agree is a dynasty. Sure, I guess that when talking about a dynasty championships are all that matter, but other than that there is nothing about the Giants that seems special to me. They've made the playoffs only 1 more time that the Brewers have over the last 10 years. They've only won their division 1 more time than the Brewers have in that time span. And here's a not super relevant but still surprising fact, in the last 10 years the Brewers have 821 regular season wins. The Giants have 818.
  23. Now that KC didn't win the World Series we can say it was a push, right?
  24. I mentioned them in the sad franchise thread, they've had a lot of recent success but does anyone actually consider them to be a great franchise? Yes, they've won a lot of championships but nothing about them screams greatness. They're not the Yankees, Red Sox, or Cardinals.
  25. Is Bumgarner pretty much toast for the rest of his career now?
