  1. A very long time. Helmets would do little to anything to protect the pitcher since they get hit in the face most often. Softball style facemasks would be more beneficial. On the mound you're more likely to die by getting hit in the chest than in the face. The only deaths I've ever read about by pitchers has been when they get hit in the chest and go into cardiac arrest. I'm certainly for players of all sports being protected in every way and if some pitcher wants to wear something for protection he should have every right to. But to require a pitcher to wear something seems ridiculous to me.
  2. He may have gotten a little better eye at the plate, probably because he's not trying to pull every single pitch out of the park, but he still swings at some incredibly stupid pitches. At least a couple times every week he swings at a pitch that he has to dive out of the way of because it might hit him.
  3. Exactly. Grandpa Ken writes letters to the league to complain about his players getting hit and Roenicke doesn't even seem to care. Although the timing was completely stupid at least Yost stood up to LaRussa.
  4. The Dodgers and Dbacks had one of the best brawls in a long time tonight. Benches cleared twice, Puig and Greinke both hit in or near the head, Mark McGwire, Don Baylor, Charles Nagy, Kirk Gibson, Matt Williams all involved and Don Mattingly tackled Allan Trammell.
  5. Isn't this the draft and follow rule that got eliminated a few years ago?
  6. There are so many things that need to be fixed with the draft but brewcrewdude80 you point out one of the biggest. If you declare for the draft, there should be no turning back. No not signing because you don't like who drafted you. No not signing because they won't offer you enough money. Once you're picked that team has your rights whether you sign or not. They can trade your rights if you refuse to sign but you can't just take your ball and go home until next year.
  7. First base will be Gamel, Morris, or Green next year. No reason to waste a roster spot (again) on Ish.
  8. I can't buy that Segura has been below average or that Ramirez has been that bad. The rest feels right to me though.
  9. I don't think Morris is going to be a world beater but I feel he will definitely be better than what Hosmer has shown so far, plus Morris has 3 more years of team control. I would pass almost on that alone.

  11. I keep seeing that Gio Gonzalez won't be suspended because what he received wasn't illegal. So how do they have enough evidence to prove that Gio is "innocent" but they need to investigate everyone else?
  12. I once sat next to a guy eating a bucket of KFC. I think food wise everything is fair game.
  13. Just heard on MLB Network Yadier received a one game suspension and is appealing. So he probably gets off with just a fine then right or does he serve his suspension during a day game after a night game against Houston?
  14. Scooter isn't the long term solution at second. He's a stopgap until someone else comes along so service time isn't an issue. Weeks has been a total disaster this season, it will at least be nice to see a new face at second.
  15. When I saw he was DFA'd I thought he would be an ok pickup but really didn't see a position for him in Milwaukee. You've got to think that he'll at least platoon with Yuni at first. Hopefully he'll just take over the position until Corey comes back.
  16. That class act (aka thug) Yadier Molina got thrown out after slamming his helmet after getting called out (replay shows he was out). He then goes berserk on the umpire (who probably said something about his neck tattoos) and gets into a hand fight with another umpire he tries to hold him back. He should be suspended but probably won't. The Cardinals are too classy for suspensions.
  17. Not to turn this into a political thread but is this really the best use of funds from the oil spill? Aren't people up in arms about this money not being used to repair the coast or something that was at least harmed by the spill?
  18. He needs to stop swinging at those pitches that almost hit him in the head.
  19. It's one game against a rather poor team. Mr. Lyon is more likely to be Chris Seanz than Chris Carpenter.
  20. You're right, a manager with a pitching background might not help in the development of pitchers. But he might have a better feel for how a pitcher's really doing. At this point, I'm looking for improvement anywhere I can get it. And Ron Roenicke seems completely enamored with John Axford. He just doesn't have it right now, for whatever the reason, yet Ron keeps putting him in there. And we keep getting burned. It's like handing a child a live grenade, and being somewhat surprised when he gets his hand blown off. If Ron wants to get him out of his funk, send him down to Nashville, and let him get some real game work in where it doesn't put the big league club further in the hole. He did, and probably will do the same thing with Krap-Rod for the same reason - those save totals. Axford saved all those games two years ago and Rodriguez holds the record for most saves in a season.
  21. SPOILERS BELOW It wasn't a bad episode but I would have preferred more comedy than warm fuzzies. Also would have helped if they had 2 hours. They tried to cram too much into one episode. The panel discussion could have been great but was way too short. Also would have liked the show to have ended with Creed being taken off by the cops.
  22. Not really sure how your major league manager has much to anything to do with developing pitchers since they are basically developed by the time he gets them.
  23. Could be the most teams thought Lawrie was over-hyped and a probable bust. I would think that is more likely than Doug not shopping him around.
  24. The guy hit like one ball to the warning track last year and looked like he was swinging a wet newspaper. How could he have gotten so much better after one offseason? Unbelievable.
