  1. Which is significant evidence that simply having Greinke at the top of your rotation does not ensure success. If the only legitimate Major Leaguer on your team is Greinke, then yes this is true.
  2. The D-Backs lost Hudson for the year. Anything Arizona has worth looking at?
  3. Give Texas Greinke and Axford for Profar and change. Nathan is old and Neftali is a starter now.
  4. If changing spots in the batting order effects a player's performance I would be looking for a different player. Isn't one of everyone's biggest complaints about Ron, and Ned when he managed, that his order was based on what position you played. Nice to see him not do that.
  5. I agree, if the plan is to trade Greinke then you need to blow up the whole thing and trade Marcum, Wolf, Hart, K-Rod, Axford, Morgan, Gomez, Ramirez (not gonna happen) and certainly dangle Rickie. The only guys that should be kept around are Braun, Gallardo and Lucroy. Simply trading Greinke for a prospect or two and keeping everyone else does not do all that much to help the franchise long term when there are lots of positions that need to be addressed (3B, 1B, SS, bullpen) in the next year or two. Might as well take care of them all now instead of one at a time.
  6. Does anyone really believe that GM's believe what other GM's say to the press?
  7. From what I heard each team will only play 20 inter-league games next year so the effect of the DH will be minimal.
  8. Hawkins also missed a good chunk of the season, which certainly wouldn't have helped.
  9. I'm not being sarcastic here, but did you mean to put this in blue? I only ask because I've always been baffled by it. You have two leagues who compete vs each other and they have different rules? Nothing seems more illogical to me. No. That's 100% true. Like you said, you have two leagues that compete against each other and they have different rules. It isn't anymore but they used to be two completely different somewhat independent leagues. Which I personally wish they would go back to. It's sort of like if an NFL team would play a CFL league team. The game is the same but each league has slightly different rules and if that were ever to happen it would make sense for them to go by the home team's league rules. I guess if you want a league where everything is "equal" and "fair" you would go with the same rules for both leagues. I for one really don't watch for the result of the game, season, playoffs, etc., I just want to be entertained. To me that means watching David Ortiz try to play first base or some AL pitcher who hasn't touched a bat since high school try and hit Stephen Strasburg.
  10. I have always been a supporter of the DH in one league but not in the other. It makes the game more interesting during interleague play as teams try to adjust to new rules.
  11. My thoughts exactly. Nice sentiment, but I doubt he's going to be leaving his cushy gig at MLB Network in the near future. Heck, he doesn't even have to come to Milwaukee. He can do the games from the MLB Studios in New York.
  12. I totally agree with you about the Rays, however they really lucked out on those trades. The Mets GM (Steve Phillips I think it was) blew the Kazmir trade, possibly one of the worst ever. Yes, Edwin Jackson is a decent starting pitcher now, but he wasn't while he was in Tampa so I'm not sure how that trade helped them. Finally when they traded away Garza they got some nice players in return however to get him they gave up one of, if not the, top prospect in the game who has happened to fall miserably short of his projections. The Rays are a great organization but they've had a lot of luck in the moves they've made. Like someone else said in another thread, they've become the Cardinals of the AL with their ability to turn other team's crap into gold.
  13. The only thing this signing means is that outside of Greinke and Gallardo all our pitchers suck, are hurt, or aren't ready.
  14. No. Wishing Doug would get with the times and find players that can play defense.
  15. I think that could work in the AL but it would be tough to do in the NL with the pitcher spot coming up in crucial situations late in the game.
  16. Since the start of May his line is .200/.379/.244 and he has 1 RBI. Yes he's got an amazing eye at the plate, but it's produced 4 runs since May 1st (3 RS, and 1 RBI). All the walks are great but he needs to hit the ball occasionally too. When he's going well, he does both, but those stretches are fairly rare. Maldanado's driven in 15 runs in just 16 more AB's over that time. I'd be looking to package Kottaras and Wolf together in a deal. I don't think the return would be great but a team reluctant to take on the rest of Wolf's salary might if you included Kottaras. A .379 on base is pretty darn good for a part time catcher. The amount of runs he's scored and driven in are beyond irrelevant.
  17. We said basically the same things about Prince last year and he got the money he wanted from somewhere no one expected him to go. If Zack hits free agency it's because he wants to go where ever the money is which probably isn't Milwaukee.
  18. It sounds crazy and I think it will be a disaster but I like that he is trying something that is actually different.
  19. I made this point earlier in the year too, last year was the outlier for Axford. His walk rate last year was 1.0 lower than his career rate and this year it's 1.5 higher than his career rate. His HR/9 is 1.0 this year versus .4 for his career and .5 last year. Even when he came up I wasn't a huge fan, he threw too many balls, which has been his problem this year and wasn't an issue last year. With his age and inconsistency I really hope Doug moves his this winter. Someone will be willing to overpay for him.
  20. I think playing at the same time as Jeter, A-Rod, Garciaparra, Ripken, Tejada, etc. is going to hurt him as he was never considered the best at his position.
  21. I'd like to see Axford traded in the offseason. Not based off of his sucking lately but off of last season. He's cheap and controlled for a while and could net a decide return.
  22. Ya, that Rasmus homerun was ridiculous. That pitch is hit for a homerun probably .1% of the time.
  23. Having K-Rod close for a month isn't going to do anything but possibly hurt his trade value if he blows a few games. Teams know he can close. He holds the single season save record for crying out loud. Right now the bullpen stinks from top to bottom, it won't matter who's closing.
