  1. No hitters can be subjective (see Sabathia, C.C.) and really not that great of a game if you walk a lot (see Smith, Bud). They're both impressive but I guess multiple no-no's for me.
  2. I doubt anyone trades for him. Why would they? Cappy might get a few innings in September and we'll have to see what happens next year.
  3. That's funny. One of the biggest things I've noticed about Macha is that he lets relievers throw more than one inning.
  4. Really disappointed Duke Silver didn't swoop in to save the day but recasting a wicker chair or whatever it was called was phenomenal.
  5. I wouldn't be too worried about fastball velocity being down. Small sample size, early in the season too. His fastball has movement and his curveball's been pretty good so far.
  6. Are we that conditioned as Brewer fans that anytime a player does well we need to trade him? I understand that McGehee pretty much came out of nowhere and it's debatable whether or not he can continue to play like this and that being a small market team we need to continue to have young, cheap players but at some point you need to stick with the talent you have. Yes we could trade Casey for a prospect and that player might turn out to be something but other teams have to be skeptical of Casey for the same reasons we are and are not going to give anything of value up for him.
  7. I am in favor of bean ball wars. However, except for the last series against the Pirates nothing looks intentional. If a guy gets hit, a guy gets hit. Pitchers shouldn't just start hitting guys because their guys are getting hit. Weeks has been getting hit his whole career. Pitchers have been pitching Prince inside all year, he's bound to get hit a few times. Unless the other team starts hitting your guys intentionally there's no reason to hit their guys.
  8. Here's an outside the box idea. Instead of players being paid in certain dollars how about they get paid in percentage of revenue. The owner decides I will make X% of the revenue and the GM and other front office people make Y% of it and Z% will go to development and scouting. Then players are signed to a certain percentage of revenue. This forces the owners to show fans how much they are taking off the top and how much is being spent on the club. Players have the incentive to play hard and win because more wins should mean more revenue (sponsors, ratings, attendance) and player bonuses would not be based on arbitrary stats that the player may hurt the team while trying to reach. For the Brewers, Suppan might have taken himself out of the rotation because he was hurting his own bottom line. The big market teams are still going to sign superstars and make gobs of money but this tells the players and fans which owners are in it to win it and those that are there just to make money. Hopefully fans and players would avoid teams with owners in it for the money and force them to spend or sell. Is this perfect? Not in any way but I think think it is going to take something that has never been tried before for baseball to achieve competitive balance.
  9. Well slowly sauntered with his hands in his pockets and head down. He looked like his mother yelled at him to go out there.
  10. For those who say that the salary cap and parity are why the NFL is so popular I think that those reasons are very low on the list. First of all football is violent. People love violence. Football is easy to follow. It's a one game a week commitment and player wise all you need to know is the quarterback, a runningback, a wide receiver and maybe a few defensive players. Every team gets coverage. No matter how bad or good the team is ESPN, FOX, or CBS will have their game and at some point during the season do a story about them. The biggest reason I think is because most NFL fans are football fans. They're like me. I root for the Vikings (sorry Wisconsin) but I don't live and die with them. I'm more of a fan of the game than of a particular team. Because of fantasy football and betting the game is the biggest reason people watch rather than the teams. Baseball fans I've found are very team loyal. Which sucks because unless you are a fan of the Yankees or Red Sox your team will go through cycles of winning and losing. A big injury early in the season could mean 5 months of playing out the season waiting for next year. It's a very big commitment time wise to be a fan of a baseball team and in most of the country that means giving up time during the summer, those few months of the year you look forward to the rest of the year. I think baseball fans need to realize that baseball does not mean what it used to in America. Up until the 1960's baseball was the only real pro game in town. Pro football and probably college football have pass baseball in terms of popularity. Big markets have plenty of people to still support their teams but in places like the Midwest football is king and baseball is a once or twice a summer kind of thing. Adding a salary cap and floor isn't going to fix these problems.
  11. I thought this was voted down this week or maybe that was a different train.
  12. Probably not. There is so much more that would need to be done for true competitive balance than a cap and floor.
  13. Erin has always been crazy this is just the first time there was a whole episode devoted to it. She usually has one or two one liners an episode that shows that she's a little unstable. If anyone caught her on Craig Ferguson last week she seems a lot like her character.
  14. Was I that friend? I once told a friend of mine cheering for the Yankees was like cheering for oxygen.
  15. I don't have a huge problem with the moves he makes, although he does make some dumb ones. My biggest problem is that he has no enthusiasm for anything. He looks bored in the dugout and half asleep in his press conferences. Yost looked like he was on the edge of blowing up all the time. I don't know if the manager's personality has anything to do with player performance but he doesn't seem like a guy players would be excited to play for.
  16. That looks like the best view of downtown in baseball. Even better than PNC. If there was one thing I could change about Miller Park it would be to have it downtown.
  17. Don't know how people can complain about Bill and Brian when compared to the rest of the league. We really had it good when we had Vasgersian and Bill.
  18. I don't think that situation should have anything to do with how great a play is. A great play is a great play whether it's in a 15-0 nothing game in April or a tie game in the World Series. Brady Clark's drive in Colorado was a better play than both Willie's catch and DeWayne Wise's catch last year during Buehle's perfect game. Was it the greatest play ever? Probably not but it was the first one that came to mind.
  19. The rule is that as long as you do the same thing every time it's not a balk. I think it's a stupid rule but it is the rule nonetheless.
  20. And the Rays are one of the best teams and franchises in baseball and also compete against the Yankees. Competence trumps pocket books.
  21. Two years ago I went to a Friday game with a few friends. With his one student ID my friend was able to get 4 tickets without problem. We weren't even in line with him. Maybe it's different now.
  22. Most of the jokes on the show are subtle except for Micheal, and to a lesser extent Dwight. The Micheal stuff is most often about how obnoxious he can be and making Micheal the joke. It's often low brow and sophomoric, which is so unlike the rest of the show.
  23. Agree about Micheal. He is usually the most unwatchable part of an episode.
