  1. Here is the story for those interested. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4988136
  2. Still need one more for tonight. It's lots of fun guys. Like for realz!
  3. Stay away from Field Turf. The NFL studied knee injuries, and I can't remember the exact numbers, but the number of knee injuries on field turf greatly outnumbered those on grass. I have played on it and it felt like playing on marbles.
  4. Texas or Toronto is probably the best places for Prince to go with the Crew getting something worth it in return. Texas just traded their top 1B guy and I don't think they really see Davis as much of anything anymore. The new ownership wants to spend so they could possibly lock Fielder up for a while too. Most importantly they have pitching to spare. Toronto has been very aggressive in moving players. Fielder is obviously an upgrade over Overbay, however, I think they would like to move Lind to first but they also have the option of a DH. They also have pitching to spare.
  5. The next manager needs to be a guy that the players respect and want to play for. I really have no gripe with his managerial decisions but he looks bored during games and the players do to. There's something to be said when players worst at bats are late in games when the team is down. With Yost the team looked like they were having fun and pulling for each other. Now it seems like they are out there just trying to get through 9 innings. I can't blame them either when grandpa Macha is in the dugout taking a nap against the wall. Also has anyone ever seen Macha talk to a coach other than Peterson in the dugout?
  6. It's a BF.net keeper league so you already have a team to select 4 keepers from. PM me with email address if interested. ESPN league draft is at 6:00 central Wednesday night.
  7. I got to hold Don Money's coffee while he signed an autograph for me and Mike DeJean called me buddy once.
  8. I just read that Strasburg might be looking at Tommy John. If that is the case you can't really blame the Nats for that. Some guys are just made of glass (Prior, Harden). This is kind of surprising as I don't remember him having any injury issues in college or during his short time in the minors.
  9. According to mlbtraderumors.com via the Brewers twitter feed.
  10. When you treat a guy's arm like porcelain eventually it will become like porcelain. I agree shut him down for the rest of the year but eventually he's going to have to actually pitch.
  11. The Who Sell Out. Many wouldn't even consider that their best but I can listen to it over and over again.
  12. I think you can almost guarantee he will be signed by the Yankees or Red Sox to ridiculous contract. He's basically an international free agent.
  13. Bring him in to replace Prince at first. Owings Career .293/.323/.538/.861 20 ab/hr Fielder Career .281/.384/.540/.924 15 ab/hr Owings has a higher average and their slugging percentages are identical. If Owings could get regular at bats I imagine his walk rate would increase and he could be a very useful hitter.
  14. I was diagnosed at 16 it took me 2 years to get into a routine and another year or so to figure out how sports and exercise would effect me. 7 years later I'm still figuring it out. The age he was diagnosed at doesn't really make a difference. It seems like it was caught during his physical which means he likely wasn't showing many signs of it. His pancreas is likely still working somewhat effectively but it will slowly stop over the next few years which means that in that time, called the "Honeymoon Phase", his body is going to react without rhyme or reason. He can eat the exact same things take the same amount of insulin and get completely different results. This is why it was in the Brewers best interests to not sign him. He's going to have to learn how to not kill himself everyday while trying to learn how to be a professional pitcher. One of those things is going to take a backseat and no matter which one it is it's not going to be good for the Brewers. If I was him, however, I take the money, especially after being diagnosed.
  15. Wouldn't he get better medical care in pro ball having the Brewers pay for his drugs and doctors? I also think the Brewers would make more of an effort to make sure he was cared for. At SDSU they are only going to care about him as long as he is successful, they don't have much of an investment in him as he'll only be around for 3 or 4 years. The Brewers would have at least a $2 million investment in him and expect him to be with the organization for at least five years and hopefully more. As much as people rip pro sports for treating players like property it's even worse in college as there is a much smaller financial investment and players can be replaced easier with another small investment.
  16. When you have money to throw around you do it sort of haphazardly if you are trying to compete with your much more successful market-mate. Which is kind of impressive that the Yankees, despite many guys being overpaid, haven't had any total disasters aside from Carl Pavano and Jason Giambi and even he didn't tank till the end.
  17. Even when they were winning 14 straight division titles the Braves didn't draw.
  18. Type 1 diabetic weighing in on this. Good call by the Brewers. Yes, you can be a pro athlete and have diabetes but the fact that he was just diagnosed means its going to take him at least a year, if not more, to figure out how is body is going to react to the physicality of being a pro baseball player and the effect it has on his blood glucose and how to make sure that he will be in top condition for each start. Brandon Marrow and Jason Johnson are two diabetic pitchers but they had been for a while by the time they became pros. Jay Cutler was a pro when he found out but he was already an established starter in the NFL. Covey would have to learn how to live a new life style, eat a new diet and become a major league pitcher at the same time. I can't imagine how much his development would be stunted by this. He may someday have become a good major leaguer but i think that that would be well past his time with the Brewers because his development would have been so far behind.
  19. I can say from personal experience as a high school and college pitcher and high school pitching coach that a moving fastball really cannot be taught. I don't consider a cut fastball to be a moving fastball though, the cutter is my best pitch by the way. As a pitcher I've played with a 2-seamer a lot and just cannot get it to be consistent enough to trust it. I've tried teaching it to kids but have not had much success. Some of that is them not really working on it but the best 2-seamers I have ever seen were thrown by guys who just naturally did it.
  20. I don't know when this happened, or when this decision was printed in the rules of golf, but your brother was incorrectly penalized (which was my first impression, so I went digging into the rules). As long as your brother didn't actually rake the bunker, he shouldn't have been penalized. 13-4/21 Rake Thrown into Bunker Before Strokehttp://www.usga.org/assets/0/1181/1514/5e6357ca-4421-4dab-a626-4a0fc8b9062c.gif Q. A player's ball lies in a bunker. He casually throws a rake into the bunker for use after his stroke. The rake does not move his ball or improve the lie of the ball. Does the player incur a penalty? A. No. Placing a rake in a bunker is permissible. In this case, throwing the rake into the bunker was the equivalent of placing it. If the rake had moved the ball, the player would incur a penalty of one stroke for causing his ball to move; and the ball would have to be replaced — Rule 18-2a. It was at least 10 years ago. I'll tell him. I'm sure he will be heart broken. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  21. My brother lost an amateur tournament in similar fashion. He hit his shot into the bunker and and grabbed the rake and threw it near where he was so he wouldn't have to get it after his shot. He was assessed a two-stroke penalty for "testing the lie". He finished third, two stroke back. Gotta love golf!
  22. Less money. If he misses 5 starts for no reason that's less stats that he can use to get a bigger contract.
  23. If we shut down Gallardo this year do we shut him down every year that we don't make the playoffs? His agent and the Players Union isn't going to like that.
  24. To get anything even close to resembling a major leaguer for Edmonds at this point in the season is a coup. I was expecting some 24 year old A-baller whose shoulder was hanging on by string.
  25. BP really started the whole thing. The tap was unnecessary even if it's something he does all the time. Molina's reaction I don't think was all that out of line either. You don't shake the hive and then reach in to grab the honey.
