  1. Possibly one of the most memorable Brewers moments ever. Anyone have any video of that?
  2. Once I got past trying to grab the random things that were falling in front of me, Avatar was a pretty terrible movie. Of the nominees, Inglorious Basterds was my Best Picture.
  3. I misread the 80% part. I figured everything based on 80% above average instead of 80% of average. Redoing my numbers I got 4.06 as the replacement level RC and filtering my data 182 out of 563 players (32.3%) are above replacement level. Does this seem right?
  4. This is the 5-year stats for offense. AVG OBP SLUG OPS AB H 2B 3B HR BB SO HBP .231 .330 .286 .616 18634 4312 602 36 114 2265 3806 478 HTML Tables By runs created I'm assuming you mean the stat Runs Created. I have to use the basic formula of OBP*SLUG*AB which comes out to 1758.387. I would guess you divide that by at bats to get Runs Created per at bat and get .094. Take that times average number of at bats per season. 18 games * 3 at bats per game and get 54. So 54 * .094 = 5.076. So if I'm correct so far the average player is 5.076 Runs Created per season. 80% over that is 9.14. So 9.14 RC would be replacement level? After entering that into my excel spreadsheet to show me only players who have put up seasons greater than or equal to that I got 48 out of 563 players, which is only 8.5% of the total seasons. Am I at least on the right track here?
  5. I have 5-years worth of baseball stats from an amateur baseball league and I'm trying to create a VORP stat using these numbers. I understand the idea behind VORP and what is measures but I have no idea how to figure it out. I know my data is far from perfect. I don't have any baserunning stats or player positions and the pitching stats are the barest of bones but I think I should be able to at least get some sort of useful/interesting results from the data. So how do I go about finding who the mythical replacement player is?
  6. If Corey gets his raise despite the season he had last year, that arbitrator needs to fine a new job.
  7. They need to eventually bring it up to Green Bay and Appleton. If I could take the train to Milwaukee instead of driving I would attend more Brewer games.
  8. His perfect game against the Angels that the Crew lost in 14 innings or so was the best pitching performance I've ever seen. I know he gave up a homerun to Vlad but I don't consider that to have actually happened since the ball was about 1 inch off the ground when he hit it.
  9. If he stays healthy he could have a nice season in that park and then get a ridiculous contract next offseason that will haunt some team for the next four or five years.
  10. He put up good numbers in a contract year in a very friendly hitters park in Houston. Last year was probably a fluke.
  11. Could Conan do an internet talk show or would that be against his contract? I think he would do good to put out one or two episodes online throughout the summer to keep/build an audience and then sell his show to a network.
  12. Once again to all those who don't like signing "average" players, what else can we do? We are limited by the amount of money we can spend and because of that we can't trade young, cheap players for veterans. Anytime we do spend money people complain that we are spending foolishly. Sometimes that has been right (Suppan). Sometimes wrong (Cameron). So our choices are to not use any resources, player or money, and stand pat. Or we could do what we are doing and make smart trades and add cheap veterans on short contracts and allow our young players to develop while maintaining a consistently competitive team. I'll take what we are doing now.
  13. I think there are some people here who do screen printing. I'm looking at getting into it as a hobby not a business and I'm wondering what kind of equipment do you use or recommend. I've just done some preliminary research and found this. Not sure what kind of things I need to look for. I did some screen printing in college for class and we used homemade screens and the whole process was very messy and the screens did not hold up very well so I would like something better.
  14. Nolan Ryan has implemented an "old school" pitching philosophy in Rangers organization. There was an article about it in ESPN the Magazine over the summer. The Rangers pitchers feel that the "new" program has allowed them to go deeper in games and stay stronger over the scorching Texas summer. From what I remember the program consists of lots of long toss, lots of running and pitchers throwing live batting practice in spring training. We'll have to see over the next year or so how their guys hold up and see if this "new" philosophy becomes popular.
  15. Pretty much everyone knew this all along so this isn't news to me. I'm sure he'll be writing a book and once again the cheaters are going to profit from their cheating.
  16. I have no interest in seeing this guy as a Brewer, especially for that amount of money, but I would have loved to see the Brewers sign him just to show that small market teams can sign these guys too. However, I like seeing the Reds waste their money.
  17. If he is traded do we still pay him this year? Are we still paying him this year?
  18. ...and Jorge Posada is yet to tag Jeremy Giambi.
  19. It seems to me the best way to use the data about location and velocity would be to judge it against the results. If a player is leaving balls over the plate but still is getting outs he very well could just be very lucky and might be come back down to earth eventually. A player can put up terrible numbers but be painting the corners and throwing breaking balls at the ankles and comparing the two pieces of data will show that he is just very unlucky. We will never have a "be all end all" set of data to judge players so we have to use all the data we have to make decisions.
  20. http://www.tauntr.com/sites/default/files/Bradley_letter_master.jpg Milton Bradley's letter in the Chicago Tribune
  21. They traded Jones last year for Bedard.
  22. If the Phillies give up only Lee and just get Halladay that seems like a lateral move at best. Lee is younger, cheaper and left-handed. I would think that the Blue Jays should get a nice haul of prospects from both teams.
  23. That's not the same Max we traded Wes Obermueller for is it? Edit: Nevermind. I'm clearly thinking of someone else. Double Edit: I was thinking of Maxim St. Pierre and he was traded for Ben Hendrickson.
  24. He'll be overpaid by a team that can afford to take the hit like Boston. If we were able to get him at the amount he is actually worth I would be interested but that's not gonna happen.
