  1. Are 18-ish year olds even interested in tobacco anymore? Seems like smoking isn't really a big thing with the youths these days.
  2. He's got to get through his Twitter war with Mark Teixeira first.
  3. Every single soul in that dugout knew. There is absolutely no way you don’t. Players had to of been talking about it all the time, there is literally a random dude chilling in the hallway of the dugout with a live feed, and it’s hard to ignore guys making music on a trash can. I didn't think that sarcasm needed to be put it blue but...I was being sarcastic. But, really, Verlander has made a big stink about morality about PED's and domestic abusers, how has that not been brought up in all of this?
  4. Has Justin Verlander commented on any of this yet? He of such high moral character must not have known anything about this happening or else he would have put a stop to it. Or at least sent a couple disappointed tweets.
  5. It's funny, I was feeling the exact opposite. The NFL does everything it can to protect the league, whether good or bad. Whatever MLB is trying to do here, it's only getting bad press and turning fans against players and teams. They've pretty much opened up pandora's box on what's been going on and they're going to find out how widespread it is and totally botch their handling of it. Just like with steroids.
  6. He should be punished the same as the other non-players. It's like saying, well Pete Rose only bet when he was a manager so he can't be a manager anymore. But he can be a player if he wants.
  7. I seem to remember Gagne being booed mercilessly at Miller Park the last couple months he was a Brewer.
  8. I was going to post something about watching out for wet mats in the dugout.
  9. Is this really baggage? The women-beaters and PED'ers have had no problems getting jobs as long as they have talent. Luhnow built a powerhouse organization. I'd want him in Milwaukee if Stearns were to leave. And you have to think everyone in MLB front offices know which players were involved. If Luhnow, Hinch, and Cora get blackballed, those players should too. But Carlos Beltran still has a job so I doubt that's going to happen.
  10. He's played 155 games or more in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2019. His age is a legitimate concern but his injury history is way overblown for whatever reason.
  11. Hampson is probably the guy to be looking at. He's blocked by Story. Was a top prospect and hasn't quite lived up to it in a small sample. Lots more control and would probably cost less.
  12. I met a guy once that used a popcorn maker to roast beans. At least that's what he told me. I assume it wasn't an air popper. I've never done it but I've looked into roasting coffee beans and I've seen using a popcorn popper suggested often.
  13. Can anyone please explain what "taking the title away" would do or even means? I see it all the time and it accomplishes nothing. I guess take away the banners and the trophy but the players and front office people still have rings, they still have memories of it happening. The franchise still reaped gobs of money from winning it. I suppose a bunch of sports writers and people on the internet feel vindicated but what a stupid thing to do. Also, no players getting suspended or fined is a joke. On the surface, MLB looks like they took a firm stance but not really. They took the easy route and punished the two easiest people they could. In terms of guiltiest parties, Luhnow probably doesn't even make the top 25. And how Carlos Beltran gets nothing out of this is mind boggling. The supposed mastermind gets off scot-free and can be a manager while Hinch gets suspended and fired and Cora almost certainly gets suspended and fired. This is almost NFL level botching.
  14. Lucroy has been downright awful since we traded him. Glad he rejected our attempts at an extension.
  15. Pretty much this. You can count on one hand the number of pitchers in MLB that you can guarantee will pitch into the 7th. This is just how pitching is in today's game. Not a Brewers or Counsell thing.
  16. I remember there was a big deal about some week the Patriots had to sign Gronk by so he would be eligible for the playoffs. At the time I was thinking that players get signed and play with a new team during the playoffs all the time but assumed I was wrong. But the Ravens just signed Andre Smith and he will be active this week so what was the big deal about the deadline with Gronk?
  17. To be fair, Yelich wasn't a superstar at the time. But ESPN is trash.
  18. Doesn't Jimmy have to be on the team out of spring training? Based on what he did last year, there's no way you can guarantee him a 25/26 man spot. I'm really surprised he got a major league deal, especially from a legit contender.
  19. The coach probably isn't going to matter too much since Dak has the franchise by the balls. If they want to keep him they're going to have to tie up so much cap space that it will be difficult to surround him with quality players. If they decide to let him go they'll be stuck with Teddy Bridgewater borderline starter types. Also Zeke probably only has about two years before his body is done.
  20. [sarcasm]No, he got screwed by a greedy owner.[/sarcasm]
  21. Couldn't care less about "baggage" or whatever but he's basically a slightly better hitting Orlando Arcia. No thanks.
  22. I think the biggest worry is that the game will become a heavy strikeout version of slow-pitch softball. Homerun or whiff. It already is. But history has shown it's not going to stay that way. It may already be shifting. Some of last year's playoff teams struck out the least in baseball. This offseason Stearn's has ditched a lot of high strikeout players for guys with similar slash lines but lower K rates. Maybe it's a coincidence but I doubt it.
  23. I guess I don't understand why some people are losing their minds over this. Whether there were changes made to the ball, intentionally or not, the game has been trending to homerun or bust for a few seasons. Unless people believe any changes intentionally made were intended to favor a certain team or teams I just don't see the big deal. The game changes constantly. Every 15-20 years it naturally swings from pitching to hitting for whatever reason. Wasn't the big complaint just a couple years ago that pitchers were too dominant and we needed to lower the mound?
  24. Normally, I back the coaches in these short tenure situations, but I suspect Kitchens was the players’ coach. The players asked Dorsey to retain Kitchens after the team showed improvement in 2018 and Dorsey obliged. Dorsey trusted the players, the players failed Dorsey, and now Dorsey is free to hire an adult. I believe Kitchens pretty much said he would leave if he wasn't the HC. Baker developed quite a bit with him running the offense in 2018 so I can't blame them for keeping him but I don't think they really wanted him to be the coach. They just didn't want to have Baker start over with a new offense so they were in a tough spot and just hoped Freddie wouldn't fall on his face. Which he did. Hard. And who expected Lamar Jackson to turn into Mike Vick after one year. If he played the way he did last year that division is totally wide open for the taking after Ben got hurt.
  25. I wonder what kind of crazy contracts we would see if the Yankees spent all the money they could. I mean I can't believe the difference in payroll between the Yankees and the lowest payrolls is exactly proportionate to their respective profits. I would bet the Yankees could probably sustain a $400M or more payroll. As for the Brewers and other small market teams, just be smart. Don't dish out long term, big money contracts to middling free agents like Eric Hosmer. Anyone who complains about not spending money on guys like that can suck an egg.
