  1. And then explain to me why a 2 hole hitter is getting paid 200 million? Doesn't make sense.
  2. I'm sorry, but he's right in his criticisms of Votto. The Reds didn't commit 200 million to him to only drive in 70 runs. If you look at his stats he shouldn't be batting clean up, but rather leadoff spot or 2 hole. Cleanup hitters get 200 million not a player in leadoff or 2 hole type.
  3. What is going on with Thornburg is he's going from a predominately fastball pitcher to a pitcher that utilizes his secondary pitches way more often, and the results are very positive. He has pretty good secondary stuff and mentally he needs to realize it to move up a couple levels. However, my stance on him is he needs more time to prove him sel over more starts, and should he continue to utilize his secondary stuff he will have much better results.
  4. Best organization from top to bottom in baseball. As a Brewers fan I'm not afraid to say it. No shame.
  5. That's very smart of him to jump on the first pitch since batters are having a ton of success hitting the first pitch for like the last 20-30 years. However, that AB aginst Homer Bailey tonight he worked the count and crushed a mistake pitch. That's a sign of a really good hitter.
  6. No, but you could say that Peralta has pitched a 2.52ERA (if I did my math correctly) his last 64.2 innings (the months of June+July). So I am more confident each time out on what you can plan for from Peralta in 2014. Ok, I don't think its wise to base major team structuring off 64.2 innings. Yes, its nice to see Peralta on a pace that might make him an average starter by the end of the season. It would be great if he could be a solid 2 next year, or even an above average 3. If Peralta can continue to locate that slider it doesn't matter how many innings he pitches he will be a very good pitcher. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Peralta is the Brewers best starting pitcher next season as long as he locates that slider. Wily Peralta has upped his projection from middle rotation starting pitcher to potential top of rotation starter based on what I have seen this season already.
  7. The probablem I see with Hellweg is that he doesn't have a plus 2nd pitch with a average 3rd pitch. Why this kid was in AAA is beyond me. They need to demote him to AA to develop his pitches.
  8. After reading that Lawrie news I'm going to enjoy a nice big steak and take a nice big nap on my lawn chair on my deck.
  9. TheCrew07, I wasn't talking about Aoki as an OF. I'm talking about him as a lead off hitter. In that regard he does it to perfection. He rarely strikes out, he gets on base at an above average clip, he does all the little things right like moving the runners over, he can hit. He's one of the top 10 leadoff hitters in all of baseball. There are teams that would kill to have that type of a player. He has more value then you are aware.
  10. Aoki is right up there with the top lead off hitters in baseball. He's a really really good player. People tend to forget that. Many said last season he couldn't sustain it, but he's proven them wrong. He's making max 2.5 million this season with incentives, so he's super cheap. He very valuable in a trade. Henderson is going to be great closer for multiple seasons and I wouldn't be surprised if a deal does happen with Arizona if they specifically request him over the others. He's going to be super cheap for 2.5 more years, and a great asset. This deal is good for BOTH sides, because of the talent and affordability.
  11. I think we'd get laughed off the phone if we offered that for Bradley and Skaggs. Ax and K-Rod are having great years but they are true rentals. I think it's highly unlikely that the D-Backs are going to trade a legit ace prospect for 30 innings of each. The Brewers will likely end up with a teams top 10-20 prospect for either of those guys. Henderson may be a different story as he still has a few years of team control. However, he's already 30 so maybe we'll get a team's #7-8 ish prospect but I wouldn't imagine too much more than that. Something else to consider is that it looks like the Diamondbacks are scouting RF Alex Rios. What about Gallardo, Aoki, 2 of Henderson, K-Rod, Axford and Cash for Skaggs and Archie Bradley. The Diamondbacks wouldn't be taking on hardly any salary this season and they could very well afford to extend Aoki.
  12. I don't see a deal less than Starlin Castro and it's not going to change. I see 60 million +.
  13. I think it's inevitable the Brewers sign Hart to an incentive 1 year deal. People keep saying the Brewers have other option, but think about it this way...... Are they quality options? Also think about all of the option they have already went through this season. The only one left who could possibly make a difference seems to be 1-2 years away and that is Morris, which he is struggling. Just sign Hart to a 1 year incentive deal if he's healthy it's a total steal and the Brewers will have the money. Let Morris have a year or two in the minors and let him destroy AAA pitching then call him up after that. Give him time to develop.
  14. I'm probably going to get laughed out of this discussion, but here's my take. I'd go for the blockbuster deal. Gallardo for Skaggs isn't a blockbuster at all and IMO and is an overpay by the Brewers. Gallardo plus 1 good RP is an overpay by us as well. I would trade Gallardo, Henderson, K-Rod, and Axford for Archie Bradley and Skaggs. Do the Diamondback really need any of those pitching prospects if they get Gallardo for 2.5 years? That in my opinion makes Bradley tradeable instead of untouchable. The Brewers can and should totally be willing to trade any of those 3 RP's for that pitching return.
  15. I'd trade our top players to the Pirates, to put them over the top just so they beat the Reds and Cards for the division and potentially knocks one of them out of the playoffs. I'd ask for there top pitching prospects in return.
  16. The way I see it they need to be blown away to trade Henderson. However, I do see him as tradable despite his minimum league salary. When thinking about rebuilding for three years down the road, think of it as 3 additional years of service time for Henderson, which will put him in Arbitration, where if he continues to do what he's doing he will be looking at more money than Axford's 5 million, then it will increase each year of arbitration. Based on this not one of our relievers should be safe from trading.
  17. This is just another sign that he needs to get a long term deal asap. His deal is going to surpass Castros deal.
  18. I don't know if Detroit needs multiple RP arms, but I'd trade Axford, Henderson and K-Rod for Castellanos. If Detroit need 2-3 really good ones this would get them to listen. I view all of our RP expendable, since we are rebuilding for 3 years down the road. We can always turn to FA this off-season of some average ones for 2014 since we wont be contending.
  19. I know some think we have good OF depth, but I question the quality of it, so to be honest if we can get a high upside OF in AA or AAA, I'd do the deal. I don't trust any OF in our system except Tyrone Taylor. We could then trade Aoki.
  20. Brewcrew80, I heard that also about the Cubs asking price and Arizona hanging up. However, that doesn't in my opinion mean they wont trade both of the for Gallardo, but rather just Samardzija. The Brewers since they are really in selling mode could without question add a player or two to Gallardo to potentially get both of the Arizona prospects. You just never know, so try to keep an open mind.
  21. I agree with Eye black, 100%. I'd also refrain from naming any poster other than by his user name or personal name if you have meet him. Just because some posters might not be educated on current value of our players via trade doesn't mean they can't school you in many other areas about the game of baseball. Be careful you might just be surprised. Also, don't call a poster kid or son at all. You'll find that some posters here and elsewhere are much older than you. I have meet one poster on another site and he is 34 years older than me, he's 60. Be careful, especially because you are new.
  22. I admire your love to watch baseball no matter what. I'll just give my story since I haven't yet contributed to my thread. I'm apart of 4 generations of Brewers fans from my great Grandpa - me. When I was a baby about a year old my Great Grandpa and my father and his father started to take me to Brewers games at county stadium, so I've been going since 1986. When I was really young we moved from Brookfield, WI to Columbus, Ohio. My Great Grandpa died, my Grandpa died pretty close together, and me and my father were left. However, we never stopped going to Brewers games. In fact, since I was 5 years old me and my father would make the 7 hour drive to Milwaukee and then back 7 hours about once a month for Brewers games since 1991 to this day. That's about 15-20 games a year. That says a lot about how dedicated of a Brewers fan I really am, and perhaps how crazy I am. Now over the years I've developed a liking for younger Brewers teams and the organizations farm system. This team I haven't really followed as much as I used too, because of the average age of the team as a whole. I like younger players because they will do anything to be productive. They will hustle to 1B every time they put the ball in play. They will even dive into 1B, which despite it being dangerous and none effective it's nice to see that desire to get on base. They will sacrifice their body's. They have more energy and are usually faster than the older players. They will sacrifice their AB to move the runner over. Etc.. This team I'm just not excited about and it's more than just because of their record. I will probably buy 10-15 games tickets once the trades happen in July to see these young prospects in action and to root them on. I'm clearly not the typical fan, because most people wouldn't buy tickets after a big sale like what I think will take place soon. I'm already planning on buying 20-30 games next season even though they wont be contending.
  23. I was pretty much expecting this, and calling for a 1 year deal. Possibly a second year vesting option based on PA.
  24. This is very much part of the hypothetical discussion. Like I said, it's a obvious choice considering who we have in CF right now. Segura is slugging .525. His HR/FB is 18%. He leads the league in "just enough" HRs at 9. I don't see how you can suggest he will hit for more power than this in the near future. Yes, I think he will fill out more and put up more real power, so hopefully he can get back to this unsustainable rate through talent later in his career. With regards to Stache's post, I read that as inconsequential to the discussion. We are looking at these players in a vacuum. Who do you want...and regardless I wouldn't factor in the presence of Gomez if I had the chance to magically acquire Trout. Segura is going to be fast for quite a wile longer. When he adds power to his hits I'm not really focusing on the home runs as much as I am more double and triples and XBH%. He won't need to leg out for all of those hits, because they wont be in the infield. I think Segura is really good at hitting in general, which means he knows where the holes and gaps are, so I'm not worried about his average dropping. Will it remain this high I wouldn't bet on it, but I wouldn't count it out at all, either. Fair enough on everything else you wrote. I'd probably lean more in Trouts direction, but If Segura can get more extra base hits and increase his power, it will be interesting to compare the two at that point no matter how many Home runs Trout hits. I'm not sure Trout will always have this speed, because of his body, but who knows at this point.
