  1. I thought Scarpetta was a 1st/2nd round talent that dropped only because he was coming off a torn finger ligament (which he subsequently re-torn) Anyone think the Brewers may throw pick 54 or 72 at Covey again? Everything sounded amicable last time, and I'm sure they know the other VERY well at this point in time
  2. Thornburg has been throwing better lately, hasn't he? I seem to recall he's been racking up the k's, but giving up runs later in the outings. Perhaps the scouting reports say he's been victimized by bad luck.
  3. I heard Joe Torre once had a conversation there with a prior Yankees manager that had been dead for many years.
  4. brwrsfan, it should be easy to trade Ramirez. He's relatively cheap and a top 5 offensive 3b.
  5. I'm heading in to Milwaukee Wed and will be at the game Thurs, maybe Fri or Sat too. Cheers Mass
  6. narwhalattack, what's up with the "for once" comment? As much as I despised the Arnett and Heckathorn picks, they were consensus first round talents with high 90s heat. Throw in that Jungmann threw 93-95 in college with a big curve and dominated a strong conference, and many thought Bradley was even better. Then Rogers still throws 97-99 (at least as of Sept, not as of this spring). We have drafted lots of high ceiling arms, also including Hall, Lopez, etc etc.
  7. I haven't seen him play, but simply from a stats side of things he needs to continue to work on things. He has had one good month and one bad month in AAA. Before this year he had one good year in AA and two poor offensive years in A ball. I guess the Brevard season was good with hr and 2b, but that's about it. I guess I'm only slightly more excited by him than Nick Ramirez. I like that they have power from the left side, but for a non-elite prospect I like more than 1 good month in AAA. His numbers still pale in comparison to the work Gamel did over multiple seasons or Green did in his 1 1/2 good seasons, and they have flopped thus far in the big leagues for various reasons
  8. okay, I figured it out!!!! For Apple TV, change the setting from Auto picture to some other number (1070/60 works for me). Looks like an awesome picture now.
  9. Hunter has a lot of work to do in AAA. I'm not worried. If he's going to develop into a solid big leaguer, he likely needs all year in AAA and perhaps a chunk of next year.
  10. I envision Scooter starting out hot, impressing people. Then as adjustments need to be made, I see his avg/obp dropping to the .240/.275 range. If he makes some good adjustments, he could evolve into a .290/.310 kind of player. Not bad, not good. But solid. Would be nice to get a guy able to grind out at bats for hits rather than K's with men in scoring position
  11. hmmm...lefty, young, over 100 minor league homers. I think it's a great deal.
  12. perhaps with Peralta, although I thought in A-Ball we were hearing more about his changeup than his heater. I remember Yo throwing a good one in his first two seasons, but then forgetting about it.
  13. interesting that two people here noted that his changeup needs to get better, but throughout the minors (especially the early minors) he was known as having one of the best changeups in the system. It's kind of like how when Yo came up he had a great changeup, but he forgot it after coming back from the knee injury when Fielder ran him over
  14. In fairness, Weeks was never good up the middle. His poor range, bad instincts (notice how this year there's been probably 5 balls hit with 10 feet of him that he didn't flinch for), and inaccurate arm have all been problems. He's also pretty bad at covering first on bunts. Still, his offensive potential is why he's in the lineup.
  15. Barton is awful. He hasn't been productive in years. Unless he's matured a lot since the AFL, the dude is a train-wreck.
  16. Not only is Arcia's average up, but he has more walks than K's. I don't remember a young kid doing that since Brantley
  17. Sanchez with a hiccup...there go the impeccable numbers
  18. I thought he was only a DH. Or was that because of the concussion? I'd just re-sign Hart for a nice deal since he wants to be here
  19. I wonder if jungmann is pitching to contact like the Brewers had Sheets do in the minors. Sheets' K numbers really didn't explode until his 3rd or 4th MLB season when he scrapped the 2-seamer. Also, Heckathorn with several consecutive scoreless outings. I still think he's about #5 in the minors for a bullpen callup, but good to see him learn to throw some strikes and get guys out.
  20. Just curious, but Weeks should have one option remaining, right? I think I remember he signed a MLB contract, so option years were used in 03, 04, and 05. However, I believe I remember he was given a 4th option year. I think he has enough MLB service time that he could refuse being optioned to AAA, however, it should be something worth considering if he's below .200 when Hart returns.
  21. Fiers and Axford have options remaining. I would like to see Axford sent down to work on things, but I think it's more likely that Fiers gets sent out to start in the minors.
  22. I'd love to lock up Jean and then give him the speech that I wish Jenkins, Belliard, and countless others should have heard. That is, "kid, we're happy with how you play. We're paying you to keep this approach. You've got plenty of natural power, we don't want you to try to hit homers." I always felt like the desire of those others to be bigger power hitters really cost them avg, obp, and K's.
  23. I'm hoping he can rebound like Jason Kubel. He was a can't miss prospect who blew out his knee in the AFL and was never the same with the Twins. He's finally reaching his potential
  24. dear God, if we trade our only hitting and get AAA pitching, then we should officially petition to join the International League.
  25. This season of the Office has been surprisingly funny. I have really liked him teaching Dothraquee (sp? the language from Game of Thrones), among other surprises. I'll miss 1600 Penn. The first episode was bad, but as they've developed the characters it's been hilarious. The biggest show I'll miss is Happy Endings. I watched it with my fiancee at first just because of Elisha Cuthbert, but then I realized the show was wacky and totally slapstick...my favorite kind of humor. It was clean and hilarious.
