  1. my question is...why doesn't MLB award the Brewers compensation this draft? They offered arbitration last year, he turned it down. He used a loophole of sorts to help the Brewers lose their rights over his contract.
  2. Ben must have changed Beane's mind after those relatively harsh words in Moneyball. Wouldn't it be interesting if Beane one day had both Sheets and Fielder, two guys he previously had negative things to say regarding
  3. Psych is so full of pop culture references that Matt Vasgersian could even take some hints from it! I love the show, and love the characters. It's almost like watching a non-animated Scooby Doo in that the show isn't all that deep, but sure is fun eye-candy
  4. Milltownhooker, were people really wondering about Edwin Jackson? I remember wanting the Brewers to trade for him after I saw him down the stretch in '08 throwing 96-98 mph...something he hadn't done since before his shoulder surgery with the Dodgers. To me his stuff had returned, and I sure was hoping the Brewers would try to trade for him.
  5. Mark Loretta and Jeff Cirillo were my favorite Brewers of the 90s/00s, so I hope Mark is taking a job with the Brewers!
  6. coach, some of us are not worried at all. Many prospects have had hiccups on the way to the big leagues. At times we all expect these guys to jump into the big leagues like Albert Pujols...I guess we can be foolish. I for one don't want to see them move Angel or Lucroy. I'd keep them both and profile them both as starting catchers. With two good young catchers at the position, the team would always have one catcher feeling fresh. When the time comes for their salaries to explode, the team can make a decision then. It's a whole lot better than when some of us were pumped about the Brewers' catching duo of Kade Johnson and Jason Belcher.
  7. I really like the signing given that I value his defense, arm, and potential power over Gerut, who seemingly disappeared from the big leagues for about 5 years. Then again, Ankiel did as well, but his was due to the position switch
  8. wow, Stokes was throwing 98 when the Brewers faced the Mets. I was shocked, as he was on my AFL team. I remember him being a really genuine guy, a hard worker, and had mediocre stuff. More impressive was he was among two DRays players on the squad that were not drafted!
  9. I'd rather have Ankiel at $3-5 million than Gerut at $2 million. I'm sure the Brewers didn't feel they had a choice, though
  10. Also, keep in mind that Cappy never overpowered hitters. He worked to righties with a very noticeable pattern of Fastball in, changeup away, fastball in, changeup away. Most of his out he rarely needed his slider to righties, as they never seemed to notice his routine. I have more faith in him coming back since he is a finesse guy and won't have to reinvent himself
  11. Ideally, Cappy would be brought back as a true 5th starter. That is, budget him for 20-25 starts and keep the other 4 on a regular rotation.
  12. I assume Paxson returns to the Midwest league either by choice or to be nearer family or the Brewers. Otherwise, that'd seem a big demotion
  13. Colby, my girlfriend mentioned her close friend's brother is a stud prospect in Texas (Jr or Sr) named Jamison something (I think it was like tullion). Any info I can pass along to her?
  14. yes...with khakies that works, but what about when wearing jeans? normal jeans don't allow much space for a delicate device in the side pockets, and the stress put on it in the back pocket would be incredible, I would think
  15. so the tech geek in me is interested in an Iphone, but today I came up with a good question...where does a guy carry an iphone? Women carry them in their purse. Surely a man can't put his iPhone in his back pockets for fear of crushing it. But if the guy wears jeans, he also can't put it in the front pockets. So I'm left wondering "if I get an iphone, must I buy a stupid belt clip?"
  16. twobrewers, remember Cain is a rather new convert to CF. If the Brewers feel Schaefer has passed him in CF, they'll likely put him in a corner. Or they could rotate all three OF in Huntsville between the three spots. It helps since then any can be called up for any spot, or even for a 4th OF role.
  17. I'd also foresee Jones, Mulder, and Capuano in the AAA rotation
  18. I'd also love to try to bring back Shouse on a 1 year deal. He was very good in Milwaukee, and is a free agent
  19. tony2sweet, what do you think it would take? 2 years at $8 million with incentives?
  20. I'd love to get Wang and his sinker. Would Rodney Dangerfield come too?
  21. Melvin has said that he's planning to add another starting pitcher, but that it likely won't come till mid-to-late January (like with Wolf last year). He wants to wait out the market and see who is available on a 1-2 year deal then
  22. Given Ben's love for hitting, I'd assume he'd take the best deal from an AL team that comes along.
  23. I'd love to sign Wang given his sinker-ball style. He had foot injuries, not elbow (unless something popped up at the end of the year), so I would expect a bounceback.
  24. Would it make a difference to look at how Zito probably throws 4-5 times per year in Colorado and Arizona, where his curve won't break (thin air) in addition to PacBel (or ATT or whatever it is these days) where it's often cool and windy?
  25. can Vladimir Guerrero still play RF (ie, is he recovering from an injury?)? He was my favorite player for years, but I haven't followed him much since he went to LAA
