  1. Agreed...I was at the Dodger-Rockie game in L.A. on April 30 and he was signing autographs along the LF line up until about 3 minutes before first pitch. HUGE Kemp fan and even more so after seeing this. Follow up article in today's L.A. Times makes you want to shed even more tears after you hear the background story: http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb/dodgers/la-sp-0508-plaschke-20130508,0,573673.column
  2. Just curious...Where is K-Rod? I haven't read anything about him in the minors.
  3. I've been the biggest Rickie defender over the years but even I am starting to get discouraged by his performance to start the year. If he were lacing liners that were outs or making somewhat solid contact consistently I would not be worrying, but the strikeouts and lack of solid contact sure are alarming.
  4. If they add the DH to both leagues I hope that MLB also does a radical realignment which places all teams geographically. The Brewers in a division with the Cubs, White Sox, Twins and Cardinals or Royals would be a nice division.
  5. So do you feel the same way about the NFL then? Or college or high school football? Or even relief pitchers? Are they really engaged when their side of the ball is off the field, or when they aren't being called on to pitch? Without being condescending, have you ever played football? When you're on the sideline you're often getting coached up or studying previous plays in that game. Regardless, NFL-MLB is an apples to oranges comparison. The core fundamentals of running, jumping, hitting, etc...you do whether you are on defense or on offense. As for relief pitchers, they are bench players, similar to bench hitters. The bottom line for me is that baseball is an offense and defense game. If you don't play defense, then you shouldn't play offense. I would much rather see an 8 man lineup than the incorporation of a DH in the NL.
  6. I am sick of the DH and the idea of the DH coming to NL is maddening. I know the DH is in pretty much all leagues leading up to MLB and I know the arguments for both sides and can definitely see the point for both points of view. My reason for not liking the DL though isn't about strategy, the NL being better than the AL or anything like that. It is simply that I just don't like the idea of someone only playing half of the game. In my opinion, sports is about being able to play both offense and defense. What does the DH do between the ABs? Sit on the bench? Go to the bathroom? Maybe hit in the cage? But is he engaged in the game? I just don't like it.
  7. While I want the Brewers to be competitive and win, if they don't, what I wouldn't give to see the Brewers trade Ramirez to the Dodgers at the deadline for Yasiel Puig. 3B is the only real hole in that Dodger lineup and they have nowehre to put Puig with Kemp under contract through 2019, Ethier through 2018 & Crawford through 2017.
  8. Against a team that lost 101 games last season. And one who's lineup today is arguably STILL worse than ours minus Braun, Raimrez, Hart and Segura.
  9. Chris Davis of the Orioles has 16 RBI in the Orioles four games. By contrast, the Marlins have scored 1 run total in 3 games. Wow.
  10. Patrick man...You nailed this on the head. Rogers doesn't seem like he will ever be the starter we hoped he would. As a one inning guy though, assuming his velocity comes back, would possibly make for a great internal option. I'm not sure about his secondary pitches and how quality they are but I would definitely explore this option.
  11. This is my biggest issue with Front Row Amy and I am a 30 year old guy. Hot chick for sure but I heard she lives in Oshkosh, which isn't exactly Wauwatosa or even Delafield, so that means to be there by first pitch she is leaving at 5ish and not getting home until after 11. Seems like a huge chunk of your kids lives are being missed.
  12. 1 vs. COL (1-0) 3 vs. ARZ (2-1) 3 @ CHC (3-0) 3 @ STL (1-2) 3 vs. SF (2-1) 3 vs. CHC (2-1) 3 @ SD (1-2) 3 @ LAD (1-2) 2 vs. PIT (1-1) April prediction - 15-11
  13. Did you guys see Carlos almost punch Lucroy in the face after the walk-off yesterday? Lucroy looked angry for a split second and then realized it was in celebration (around the 33-second mark). http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2013_04_01_colmlb_milmlb_1&mode=video&content_id=25940701&tcid=vpp_copy_25940701 Then in the post game interview he said he was going to go punch Gomez and didn't look real happy about the shaving cream pie. Not trying to stir the pot at all but it definitely felt a little tense.
  14. Yuni should be starting at 1B on Opening Day.
  15. Monty, You raise very good points. One option at $12m with age/injuries vs the other at $450k with youth/inexperience. Like I said previously though, Scooter/Morris are not blue chip prospects who we should clearing a path for like we did for Fielder by trading Overbay. Scooter and Morris profile as average MLB players at best from the scouting profiles I have read. My point isn't that the Brewers should ignore the finances, it is that some fans are so obsessed with prospects they are willing to overlook the rock solid performers currently occupying the postion today. We heard the same thing with Ramirez signing last year. Why not start Taylor Green at 3B? Yet another prospect who profiled as an average MLB player at best over an All Star 3B who hadn't shown a decline in productivity yet. The obsession with mediocre prospects is why we aren't anything but fantasy GMs (thank god) or else our order this or next year could have been: 1. Aoki RF 2. Scooter 2B 3. Braun LF 4. Lucroy C 5. Green 3B 6. Morris 1B 7. Schafer CF 8. Segura SS. With our pitching that is a 74 win team at best.
  16. This is the absolute truth and the true reason for not going back to ball and glove full time. However, while it does maximize profits, it also creates a marketing conundrum as the Brewers are more known for an unofficial logo than for their actual logo. THAT is not good marketing.
  17. This. Look in the stands and see what 80% of people are wearing. Brewers FO should listen to their fans. I honestly don't see why they don't given the passion most have for ball and glove and the relative lack thereof for any other uniform in Brewer history.
  18. I will never understand the desire to push out the proven Weeks & Hart for the unproven likes of Scooter and Morris. It's not like Weeks and Hart are 34 or 35. Being they are both in their age 31 seasons, they should have 2-3 more years after this season at above average production before significant decline could be anticipated. Hart had the third most HR by a 1B last season, behind I. Davis & A. LaRoche. Weeks the 2nd most HR as a 2B behind A. Hill, despite his awful first half. Additionally, I have read nothing that says Scooter and Morris profile as anything more than average big leaguers, while Weeks and Hart are both former all stars still producing at all star levels. The obsession by some with replacing these guys while they still should have some prime seasons left with average prospects is surprising.
  19. http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/20128/suit-up-with-2013-uni-watch-mlb-preview Always a fun read to see what changes we can expect in the upcoming season. Lukas points out the same thing I have in other threads; in my opinion, the Brewers have way too many uniforms.
  20. Greinke at 6 years $147m or Wainwright at 5 years $97m? All things considered, in this market, this a good deal for StL. Hopefully Yo will be the one to take the 5 year $100m offer when the time comes.
  21. Hunter Morris didn't really give me a lot of hope for his future this spring. He looked lost at the plate and like I posted in a different thread, I need to see he isn't just another Kevin Barker. I know what he did last year at Double AA but he looks like a guy that might need a season or two at Triple AAA. I would very much welcome a Corey re-signing if he got a LaRoche type contract extension (2 years, $22 million with an option for year 3) meaning we would have Corey on a 3 year, $32 million contract including this year, for his age 31, 32 & 33 seasons.
  22. Me personally...I am very happy to hear they are entertaining the idea of re-signing Corey Hart. Very underappreciated on this board and by a lot of Brewer fans in general in my opinion. Plus I need to see more from Hunter Morris before I annoint him anything more than Kevin Barker.
  23. Rarely do "realists" like to be told how things REALLY are. I am not going to sit here and proclaim that I am "telling it like it should" but your negative glass half full vision of the Brewers is without basis in fact at best and condescending at worst. Do I like the Lohse signing? Not particularly. However, to say this will preclude us from competing in 2016, 2017 & 2018 is simply a doomsday prediction that has no basis in reality. Braun is signed through 2020; Segura through 2018; Lucroy and Aoki are both signed through 2017 and Gomez through 2016. Essentially, the Brewers have 5/8 of the #1 offense in the NL for 4 more seasons and 4/8 of that lineup for 5 more seasons. Taken a step further, in 2016 Aoki will be 34, Braun 33, Gomez 31, Lucroy 30 & Segura 27; not exactly old in terms of baseball years. Hate the Lohse signing all you want and whatever other moves the Brewers make, that's your right as a fan, but don't spout something so blatantly false about the Brewers being absent of talent in future years without doing the research first to back it up.
  24. In all seriousness, it boils down to Yuni B vs. Donnie Muprhy and who would be better until Hart returns. Both choices stink but once Hart returns, they both would've been DFA'd.
  25. No Kotsay is coming back to be the 1B until Hart returns (It's not blue because I know it's true)
