  1. So my original post was going to go something like this: Anyone else getting concerned about the Brewers OBP moving forward? Thames and Grandal specifically weren't world beaters with the AVG in 2019, .247 & .246 respectively, but their OBPs were .346 and .380. Even Moustakas was .254/.329. However, after diving deeper into the statistics, I think the Brewers may have targeted good replacements. While solely focusing on AVG/OBP, the Brewers have essentially replaced the above bats with Garcia (.282/.332), Narvaez (.278/.353) and Urias (.223/.329). If Garcia and Narvaez essentially repeat what they did in 2019 in 2020, and Urias simply raises his AVG into the .260 range, the Brewers may not suffer any let down in terms of their offenses ability to get on base. Couple this with a splashier move to acquire a true 3B and move Urias to SS, thereby getting Orlando Arcia's (.223/.283) line out of the lineup, and the Brewers may have a better offense in 2020 than they did in 2019. Bottom line, I like what I am seeing. Thames back as an option at 1B and a true 3B and this offense, with health, could be very dynamic and not overly reliant on the long ball.
  2. I know we tend to become enamored with our own guys but why not just bring back Travis Shaw? I think its more likely Shaw outperforms Healy in 2020.
  3. BREWERFAN.NET TMZ-RELATED POST: If you're on Instagram, Prince Fielder liked the Brewers official announcement signing Avisail Garcia.
  4. I like your Thames idea, as I've been thinking the same thing - would be a great platoon option with Braun at 1B. However, I cannot imagine the Dodgers ever doing that trade for Knebel. Nobody knows how healthy Knebel will be this season, and it's already being reported that he likely won't be back until May sometime (and that might be the earliest). And, even a healthy Knebel wouldn't be able to bring back Turner and Seager. In fact, I doubt a healthy Knebel could even bring back one of those guys. Erceg is basically a non-prospect at this point - so adding him into the deal isn't going to help at all. The Dodgers proposal is mostly about clearing their payroll to be able to sign Donaldson or acquire Bryant. Obviously without having inside knowledge of front offices and how they operate, the Brewers taking on the entire salary of Turner and Seager may enable them to acquire them without adding a Urias type prospect/player.
  5. At this point in the offseason, I would like to see the Brewers do the following: *Re-sign Thames to a 2 year $9million deal. Thames had a $7.5m option that was bought out for $1m. Brewers bring him back at essentially $5.5m (buyout + new $4.5m salary). Braun and Thames split 1B at 60/40 timeshare. *Brewers trade Corey Knebel & Lucas Erceg to Los Angeles for Corey Seager and Justin Turner. Instead of the Brewers trading Hader, they trade another elite arm in Knebel (when healthy) and Dodgers take the long view for their new pen (Treinen, Knebel & Jansen). Brewers fill 3B (for 2020) in Turner and SS (for 2020) in Seager, with eyes on Seager shifting to 3rd in 2021. Dodgers clear payroll of Turner in order to sign Donaldson or trade for Kris Bryant and start Lux at SS. Brewers lineup: 1. Cain 2. Yelich 3. Turner 4. Seager 5. Hiura 6. Garcia 7. Braun/Thames 8. Narvaez
  6. Donaldson is a much better player than Moustakas so I doubt one has anything to do with the other. I disagree. Not about Donaldson being a much better player but about the Brewers FO operational style. If the Brewers were presented the option of $16m on Moose and $9m on other parts of the roster or $25m on Donaldson, they have shown they would do the former rather than the latter. Especially when Donaldson is already 34 years old.
  7. I think Urias/Arcia are your SS regardless. 3B and 1B are still questions in my mind.
  8. 4 years $90m+...If the Brewers didn't want to give Moose 4 years $64m, I doubt they want to give another $30m+ for Donaldson.
  9. Not picking on you, but just an observation. people here and other places were complaining that we were going to be dropping payroll and "rebuilding" because the brewers weren't spending money and were dumping salary. Now that they are spending money and filling holes people are complaining that the are spending too much. It is alot, but with how the market has been I don't think its too far out of line. I am not opposed to this signing in the least and have no complaints about the Brewers offseason to date. I wanted Moose back, but certainly not at $16m per for 4 years. Same with Grandal. I think it is another highly underrated move by Stearns. I was simply making an observation about where the price point was relative to my expectations of what it would be.
  10. A Braun/Thames platoon at 1B sounds quite nice right now. I wonder if they could bring Thames back on a two year deal around $9m.
  11. If Hader is traded to the Mets, I would insist on Nimmo being a part of that deal. He has elite OBP skills. Sign Castellanos to play 1B and rotate Braun from LF to 1B depending on matchups.
  12. I would do this trade. Long term SP TOR potential in Garcia. Immediate impact for MLB team in Yelich window with Correa. Happ is a rotational piece. Think it fits all the needs both long and short term.
  13. Now say...”How do we feel about Nicholas Castellanos?”
  14. If he’s willing to play 1B this year, he’s my #1 target. A top of the order of Cain-Yelich-Castellanos-Hiura-Braun-Narvaez with Urias potential is a solid one.
  15. I have a hard time with a valuation site stating the value of Lux and May are so much more substantial than that of Hader and Urias. Pre-2019 Rankings of prospects show the following: Lux: #70 (MLB.com), Baseball America #40 https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=lux---000gav Urias: #23 (MLB.com), Baseball America #31 https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=urias-000lui May: #69 (MLB.com), Baseball America #82 https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=may---000dus Now add an all star MLB player, arguably the best reliever in baseball and with 4 years of control, and I would say that a Lux and May for Hader and Urias feels about right in terms of value.
  16. Agreed. That long of a contract with that much money screams big market. At this point, I think you see 4 years $90m or 3 years $75m for Donaldson.
  17. I really don't see anything "realistically" I want from the Yankees for Hader.
  18. I love the bat and would think he is a 30-35 HR, 100+ RBI bat in Miller Park but where do you play him? That D is supposed to be pretty rough.
  19. What about a Hader and Urias for Seager, Lux and May deal? Brewers get an immediate 3B (Seager), SS (Lux) and SP (May). Dodgers get the RP stud and a SS for the future as well.
  20. The Dodgers signed Blake Treinen and are supposedly in on Dellin Betances. If they sign Betances, I suspect the interest in Hader may go away. However, if the Dodgers are to make a deal for Hader, I think the likely package will include Corey Seager and your choice of May or Lux but not both. FWIW, I would do either Seager and Lux or Seager and May.
  21. IMO, it is these types of moves the Brewers should be targeting. Buying a prospect (Smith) to fill a long term hole by taking on money (Lowrie), who in this case, also temporarily fills a hole at 3B. Smith-Hiura-Urias is a nice start to a long term IF. Couple that move with taking on additional salary in a trade for Price, Benintendi & Chavis and the Brewers might have something in 2020 without having to move Hader.
  22. Then they can turn around and deal Seager, May, Verdugo and Turner to the Brewers for Hader and Corey Ray.
  23. I get it. We have to grow our own SP in Milwaukee. However, I think the Brewers need to take a long look in the mirror about whether they are going to extend Yelich or deal him prior to him becoming a FA. These guys might be arriving just in time for Yelich to be dealt. So do you either surround Yelich with talent before he leaves and deal some of these guys or do you hold on and not upgrade the roster around Yelich?
