  1. Gotta wonder what is holding up the Brewers making a move. Does where Darvish signs really play into what the next move is for the Brewers? In other words, are the Brewers waiting on Darvish before pulling the trigger on any SP trade? If so, doesn't that lean towards the idea the Brewers are only after one addition to the rotation? Have to further wonder if they are waiting on Darvish, and if he doesn't choose Milwaukee, do the Brewers pivot to a trade for the cheap contract of Archer and use the other money for other FAs (Neil Walker) or if they move down to a cheaper FA option (Alex Cobb).
  2. This is an excellent post and succinctly wraps up where we as Brewer fans should have our heads in the event they make multiple trades for SP that clear the farm. While we all love the Burnes of the world, I also remember loving Nick Neugebauer, Bobby Hughes, Antone Williamson, Todd Dunn...etc. The difference between the Brewers of old and the Brewers of now is that the Brewers of now are dealing for players with long term control thereby negating some of the risk involved with the acquisition and allowing for a period of time for Stearns and the front office to rebuild the farm. No one can predict injuries and small markets need to protect against them by having a deep farm, but this team, with the likely dealing of prospects for controllable players, is ready to compete for a World Series. Let's get one or two!
  3. My sentiments exactly. I want Archer bad. Not bad enough to decimate the farm though. Overpaying for Arrieta and keeping the farm together is a much better path.
  4. Has it tho? viewtopic.php?f=82&t=6641 Nearly 15 years! Man that is brutal. I do wonder if that original poster is now here again under a new name. The spelling and punctuation fits the bill of several posts around here. 15 years...man. Great times guys! Let’s appreciate the site for all the intelligent and amazing Brewer talk.
  5. I really believe the Brewers will make two additions to the rotation. I wouldn't want to part with any of Woodruff, Burnes or Ortiz and I think the acquisitions can be made without giving them up. At this point, I don't believe there is a way to keep Braun, Santana, Phillips and Thames. There simply isn't enough ABs to do so. So I move Santana as I think Phillips is the ideal #4 OF and the idea of Braun at 1B scares me. TRADE #1: Domingo Santana for Danny Salazar Enough smoke has been there around conversations between the Brewers and the Rays that I believe a deal will ultimately be struck for a SP. It will be for Odorizzi and not Archer though as the cost for Archer is ridiculously high and ulitmately Stearns won't pay for it. TRADE #2: Mauricio Dubon, Trey Supak & Phil Bickford for Jake Odorizzi This trade is more of the depth moves that Stearns made in previous offseasons where he looked for quantity over high end quality. Additionally, Odorizzi LIKELY will not command an elite prospect given his lack of ace results and long term control. The return seems light and heavy at the same to me as a Brewer fan which means its probably about right. Brewers open the season with: Anderson Odorizzi Salazar Davies Chacin Maybe not a world beating staff, but one with a substantial amount of depth. Woodruff, Burnes, Ortiz are all still in the system. Suter still available. Nelson comes back and Brewers can determine at the deadline if they need an addition to the rotation.
  6. While I agree with you for games 1-162, in game 163 forward, I don't feel comfortable lining up anyone currently in the rotation in Game 1 and Game 5 versus Kershaw, Scherzer, etc...
  7. The loss of prospect capital to acquire other parts is the only downfall of the Yelich deal. The acquisition of Yelich and Cain, as well as the presence of Braun, Santana and Phillips, really negated the need for Brinson and Harrison in the next 5 seasons. Additionally, the presence of Villar (possibly Walker) and the higher prospect in Hiura, made Diaz expendable. Yamamoto was maybe our 5th ranked pitching prospect. You make that deal 100% of the time unless that package could have acquired a young elite SP (Strasburg, Severino type). I am on board with holding Woodruff and Burnes but would package Ortiz with Santana if it assisted in the acquisition of a #2 type pitcher (Archer).
  8. I would trade Domingo for Salazar straight up if the alternative move is Santana, Burnes + for Archer.
  9. This is where I am at and I really want Archer. Signing Arrieta and losing the pick or trading Santana, Ortiz and Burnes for Archer is an easy choice.
  10. +1. If Yu can't make up his mind by now, I like Arrieta and his competitiveness. Don't forget about his desire to stick it to the Cubs every time he pitches against them.
  11. Avila AAV of $4.125. If Lucroy were to sign something like this count me in.
  12. This stuck out to me. If the Brewers acquire Arrieta and Archer, the rotation then is Arrieta, Archer, Anderson, Davies, Chacin with Nelson coming. Who is missing? I doubt the Brewers signed Chacin to be in the bullpen which would mean Woodruff would be on the move. Nelson returns and then Chacin to the pen perhaps, but I imagine the Brewers are looking at moving Woodruff given HH19's latest information.
  13. I agree completely with your assessment but I am not advocating for the Archer deal. I am simply making peace with the fact that the SP as constituted today likely doesn't compete in an NLDS series with the Dodgers or Nationals and losing 1 year of the window, when you can address it now, is likely what the Brewers will do.
  14. Instead of helping the Dodgers clear payroll to sign Darvish by trading for Grandal, why not sign Lucroy instead?
  15. I am making peace with the idea that Burnes will be the next prospect to go. This team was built to compete now and for the next 4-5 years and while Burnes definitely fits into the tail end of that time period, he doesn't necessarily fit into the beginning of that time period. Archer provides cost certainty and #2 potential. Furthermore, he also can pitch like a #2 in the beginning of the window and hopefully like a #2 through most of it and the current pitching staff is certainly lacking when paired against the Dodgers or Nationals. While I am hopeful they hold Burnes, I fully anticipate a Santana, Burnes + for Archer deal to be announced soon.
  16. I think this is 100% accurate. However, it doesn't appear they can clear the payroll to add him. Given this, it keeps the Brewers in play.
  17. Based on HH19's comment, its possible Darvish is getting impatient with preferred options and is considering the Brewers strongly.
  18. Say the Brewers do the unthinkable and sign Darvish...do the Brewers move forward with dealing Domingo? Would it make sense at that point to deal Santana and Burnes + for Archer given they still have Woodruff/Nelson/Chacin/Ortiz/Suter for the #5 spot? Darvish Archer Anderson Davies Woodruff/Nelson/Chacin
  19. He may ultimately sign with the Dodgers or Cubs...however I don't share in your pessimism. As hard as this may be to comprehend, Milwaukee could be a destination for FAs.
  20. Thanks for all the insider info HH19! As for your speculation on Moustakas, here I hope you're wrong. While he doesn't strikeout a ton, he doesn't walk a bunch either. Furthermore, I hope we don't get too crazy about overturning an 86 win team and lose the camaraderie developed in 2017 ala the Padres of a few years back with Kemp, Upton and Kimbrel.
  21. At this point, I have to believe that Broxton and Aguilar's days on the Brewer roster are numbered. At this point, you have a bench of: C: Vogt OF: Santana, Phillips IF: Perez, Sogard If the Brewers are able to move Santana, I think Aguilar is the next choice for the bench given his success in PH as well as his ability to backup 1B and Perez' ability to play as the 5th OF. However you look at it, there is a true bench/roster crunch as it stands now.
  22. I think that idea is bogus. Any prospect is attainable for the right price. If a team says a prospect is untouchable, they are just trying to drive up his cost. They are lying. Maybe...but if I were the Marlins I would have taken Buehler over any of Brinson, Harrison, Diaz and Yamamoto.
  23. It would take more than Domingo and Burnes! I might be crazy for saying this, but I'm just not thrilled with the idea of dealing away another huge prospect haul for a guy like Archer. I know he's controllable and cheap, and thus seemingly fits well into our now 4-5 window here where we are trying to go for it. But, I'm just not impressed enough with his numbers for TB to give up a package that would start with Domingo and Burnes (and then 1-2 other good prospects). I agree. I like Archer more than most and would do Domingo and Burnes. Phillips is my ideal #4 OF anyway and Burnes ceiling is likely Archer so I would gladly do this. Anything more of a substantial prospect and I am out. Flip side is Domingo being an ideal #5 hitter for the next 5 years, especially if anything happens to Braun. Additionally, Burnes could be an ascending #2-#3 in 2020 or 2021. Focus on signing a FA SP and come back to this deal if absolutely need be.
  24. Buehler being untouchable was one of the rumored reasons why the Dodgers didn't get heavily involved in Yelich. No way they offer Buehler for Santana straight up.
