  1. When discussing offense, ONLY, I personally prefer OPS+ as WAR often includes offense and defense.
  2. OPS+ by position (based on 2001-2010 MLB data): P (-5) C (87) 1B (116) 2B (93) 3B (101) SS (89) LF (110) CF (98) RF (110) DH (105) PH (72) Nothing wrong with using OPS+ as long as you understand the variation by position.
  3. It must really be hard for Cubs fans to cry themselves to sleep knowing they only won 1 World Series in the last 5 years...
  4. And in the second half of 2018 his peripherals were off the charts compared to the rest of his career. Wrc+ of 90, LD% over 25% (better than 2020). Back then it was the run to the "he's broken out" take for 95% of Brewer fans. How did 2019 look? Yes, Arcia has shown in a 60-70 game window that he isn't horrible and could be above average. In-between he has shown he is the worst hitter in MLB (by a long-shot). There's nothing about his results in 2019 that 2nd half 2018 was a breakout and it was wise of Stearns to sell "high" on Arcia.
  5. Not having to pay any more of Arcia's salary was the win. Getting two relief pitchers with some upside is a steal... Maybe the Braves owners are doing Attanasio a favor for his stance on moving the ASG game from Atlanta...
  6. What is this with opposing teams adjusting to our pitchers after the first time through the lineup? It is such a strange concept for a Brewers fan...
  7. I think if Brewers hitters were required to donate $1,000 to medical research every time they look at strike three we would have cured cancer by now...
  8. Based on that article it would make sense to eliminate any of the cities represented on the executive council. It's a bad look if the ASG ends up in any of those cities.
  9. The insane thing is that live media - "television"/cable - are working on a model that is completely unique. They force bundling without choice and you can't buy individual items. Imagine walking into Sendiks or PikNSave and being forced to buy tripe, cows tongue, kidneys and liver if you wanted to buy hamburger. Or wanting to subscribe to the Journal, but having to take USA today and 5 other Gannet Papers or NOTHING. How about your subscription to Bon Appetit and you have to take 10 Conde Naste publications to get 1. At some point consumers should have the same choice with TV/Cable/Streaming as for every other consumer option. ALA CARTE or choice. GASP! I stopped subscribing to any "live" delivery before the pandemic started and my household works completely with on demand streaming and an OTA device. Almost all news can be consumed online. It limits sports events, but I'm getting too old to sit through an entire game. My bill is better as I don't need to subscribe continually to many of the streaming options since they have all their content available all at-once. I just subscribe to HBO for 3 months and binge then cancel and subscribe to Showtime for 3 months, Starz for 3 months, Epic for 3 months and restart. Same with a lot of the "Channels". The only full-time is Disney+ for kids and at the next renewal I will go back to monthly then cancel. Netflix and Hulu go on vacation. Nothing has to be constant subscription (Mubi being one exception as they add 1 move each day and take 1 movie away - now there's a model for continual subscriptions, same with Criterion TV, but I am fine supporting them to keep the model going then not and lose them like Filmstruck). Fixed that for you. MLB is blocking some VPN now, but I think that isn't universal as I was able to watch opening day using the VPN I pay for separately on MLB.TV without an issue (my VPN service rhymes with "Gord" and is from a Scandinavian company), but the VPN my company uses kept throwing errors during the validation phase.
  10. Is it impossible for the Brewers to hire a 3B coach who doesn't have a vacant stare and ANY ability?
  11. The Brewers are only 3 BB from a tie game and 4 BB from the lead! Woohooo! 52 opening days and year after year just starts to morph into the same brewers same game. Glad I got the free Tmobile MLB.TV and my VPN works.
  12. Ignoring the really bad initial decision to bring back a 76YO with cognitive issues who's probably killed substantial numbers of brain cells with his share of "drinking" and has not much in common with current ballplayers than 23 chromosomes. Is 'Dorf just too cheap to hire a driver for him? At least they would know where he is (seems he keeps breaking his iphones by trying to flip them shut) and then they don't have to pay the high rates in Chicago to make those pull overs disappear.
  13. While 16 years ago doesn't seem that long to me, that was the prehistoric days when W/L record was clearly the best indicator of player/pitcher value. So Sheets didn't have a chance and since most other teams can afford to pay pitchers $40M per as Brewer fans we just have to be happy with 6 and done from now on.
  14. So basically, who do you have to ______ around here to get that done? Good luck with the re-re-re-rebranding, but If you can get the old GenoSeligPrieb back then "Woaah Solvd III".
  15. Not surprising at all about Cora. Not surprised by the Cohen approval. This is a league that re-upped Luria after he ran the Expos into the Ground. In the world of high finance, MLB owners are pretty much high priced prostitutes who haven't had a good day since Jeffrey Epstein passed. What really irritates the crap out of me is that we are how many years from the last substantive discussions on how to level the playing field so that the Brewers have some chance to compete with the $200M+ payrolls of the LA, NY, CHI, PHIL, oh heck every other friggin market. Seems like Attanasio is fine with the "we can't afford it" approach to ownership so maybe I'll just sink all my baseball related disposable income into lottery tickets. Somehow that seems like a better bet.
  16. Condoms are not 100% effective, but I don't see where people are running around screaming forget the condoms let's just go for it. (Although I don't live in a college town so I could be out of touch.) Of course creating a life is different then dying from an infectious disease, but both can be life changing (especially for the poor sod who doesn't survive the infection). -80 degree freezers are all over the place. Maybe not in a rural medical center, but most large hospitals will have at least one. And as mentioned by Machu, dry ice and a container can work very effectively for rural locations. You aren't injecting it frozen, you just need it for long-term stability. If the vaccine isn't flying off the shelves then there's a bigger problem than can we keep it stable for a week.
  17. I don't even know what you wrote, I'm too jazzed that there's been a GSP sighting at BF.net. GENO!!!! Welcome Back Brother!
  18. I had a checkup last week and my GP said that several of their hospitals in Northern WI were running above their licensed number of patients. I didn't realize that hospitals have a license from the state that allows only X number of patients at any time. He said they don't expect the state to do anything because there just isn't capacity anywhere right now.
  19. [pre]Country Population Total Cases Deaths 7 day Ave Norway 5,542,713 9,362 256 29 Denmark 5,793,679 14,073 616 64 Finland 5,424,203 7,483 331 10 Total (NDF) 16,760,595 30,918 1,203 103 Sweden 10,108,080 81,181 5,747 242[/pre] Not sure how you spin the Sweden numbers in any way. They are the US of Scandinavia (4.3x the cases, 7.9x the deaths, 3.9x current cases by 7-day average).
