  1. Exactly, what I’ve seen is mostly classifying his arm as average, or just barely below. It’s basically the lone thing holding him back from being considered a true 5-tool player, but if you’re going to have one average tool out of the five that’s the one I’d chose.
  2. Unless he grows out of the position he seems likely to stick as a centerfielder. The only knock on his defense is his throwing arm, but staying in CF would minimize the importance of that.
  3. Well here we are, today’s game decides the season series winner which could potentially have playoff implications (either seeding or final wild card position) if the Brewers and Padres were to finish the season with identical records.
  4. Here’s one stat that I think sort of illustrates how high the organization is on their young players… Since the beginning of the David Stearns era (2016-present) the Brewers have given 100+ plate appearances in affiliated ball to just 14 teenagers total. Six of those 14 teenagers are on this season’s team in Carolina (Chourio, Mendez, Garcia, Vargas, Quero, Perez), so nearly half of all such instances are current Mudcats. Prior to this year it was Turang, Grisham, Lutz, Ward, Feliciano, Abreu, Castillo, and Lara that were given affiliated ball playing time as teenagers. Some of it may be due to the reorganization of the minors, but I think it’s clear they also believe in pushing this group of young players. Another way to look at it is the Brewers currently roster 1/4th of the teenage hitters (6 of 24) getting regular playing time in the 12- team Carolina League this year.
  5. This is the most excited I’ve been about the system in the last 5 years. Ultimately a good farm system really only needs to produce a small handful of major leaguers, and just a couple of which are true impact talent. I am feeling pretty good that this system has that in it’s current state. There’s a wave of good players at Double-A and Triple-A, but I’m really excited for the teenagers currently making up the Carolina crew. I think that crop of young players has a chance to help provide as impactful a wave of future major league talent as we’ve seen for the Brewers since the mid-2000s.
  6. I do think something strange is going on with how the baseball is flying once again after being seemingly deadened during the first six weeks of the season. This thread has some interesting observations…
  7. Offensive production among outfielders league wide seems down a bit. There are only 20 outfielders among qualified hitters that are above a 120 wRC+. While Benintendi (144 wRC+) is one of those, I wonder if Ian Happ (126 wRC+) could also be a popular trade target for teams in need. I realize acquiring him from the Cubs isn’t likely for the Brewers, especially since he has 1.5 years remaining under contract, but I have to think his name will be brought up a bit as we approach the deadline.
  8. I did not care for the Motre Bame logo one bit, but was more into the standalone M logo from that late 90’s era. At least I thought it looked fine on the hats. It may have been a case of the MB logo being so bad that the standalone M played up a grade.
  9. It’s sort of easy to forget that Lutz is just under six months older than Joey Wiemer. The ISO is really impressive this season (.255), but the strikeout rate continues to be an issue (32.7%). It would be great to see Lutz continue with a breakout season and maybe cut the strikeout rate a bit.
  10. Nice to see how all the Jackson Chourio hype has really rejuvenated this team.
  11. What a win. Brewers now just need one more in the next three to win the season series with the Padres.
  12. Now the easy part, they just need to find a way to score the runner from 3rd with no outs…
  13. Would’ve been nice if Jace could’ve tried to get into a run down to get Wong over to 2B. Edit: Moot point anyway.
  14. At least have Cain bunt there. Just a total non-competitive at bat… sigh.
  15. That one stings, slightly better defense probably results in a W tonight.
  16. Yelich looks really awkward moving around the outfield right now.
