  1. independent teams are A- teams, at best. Their players come from wherever they can get them, but most have some minor league experience. The "stars", if they have any real talent, typically get sold to an affiliated team eventually. Several brewer farmhands have been with independent teams.
  2. last I heard ned was still mulling over hall/hart at 5th but was leaning towards hall. If he has hall 5th, I hope hart is batting 2nd until cameron comes back.
  3. DLR was part of the Sexson trade. I wouldn't have any problem with him going to nashville.
  4. I forgot about choate's injury. thanks. I guess that makes the roster set.
  5. what the heck are you talking about? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. the 25 man roster that is posted on this site has 30 players, but Capuano, Gallardo and Cameron will not be on the OD roster, and I assume Escobar won't be either. That leaves Choate or Dillon, or someone not on the 40 man roster as the 25th man. Do we know for sure that Dillon made the team?
  7. hill is really their #3, they just put him 4th to split the lefties. If I was going to pick 5 guys, they'd be sheets, zambrano, gallardo, parra, lilly. hill would be right there, too. I'd probably pick Z over sheets, on durability so far. I'd pick gallardo over lilly suppan/dempster is a push I'd pick hill over villanueva bush over marquis parra way over lieber.
  8. murton can play rf in a pinch. he did last year for quite a few starts. He's around average for a corner OF. I'd guess someone will want him.
  9. generally, I'd take Fielder, but with the score tied in the bottom of the ninth, and the bases loaded, I'd definitely take Weeks, and tell him to take a HBP for the team!
  10. I hear he's going to be teaching the fine art of coffee brewing to the minor league teams. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  11. he'll go to Philadelphia, where he will win the 7th game of the NLCS against the brewers.
  12. the conjecture seems to assume that Yo will move right back into the rotation. I'd suspect he goes to the pen for a week or two, but maybe not if they get him a few 5+ inning starts in Nashville first.
  13. if anyone would move to 2b, it would be hardy, not escobar. this season should be a good test of how good weeks will be.
  14. I didn't think johnson played CF, though they had better options in Wells and Rios. I don't know what his role will be.
  15. How many games did Rivera catch Yo and Parra? I'm thinking not many. And I don't think he caught anyone else on the staff while in the minors.
  16. man, I wish I could get $900K to play baseball in spring training.
  17. steals are great. caught stealing sucks. If they are running in situations where they figure they have a 85+% chance of success, run.
  18. you describe what I've been advocating for awhile. If he is just stellar, they might have to move him to the pen for a couple of weeks, but if he's stellar, we should want him doing that for Milwaukee.
  19. It's not a big deal at all unless someone gets hurt. If two guys get hurt it's pretty bad. Narveson, Jackson, Difelice...whoever else will be starting in Nashville..,don't even have a mediocre record in the majors. I'm also not keen on McClung being a long guy. He stunk as a starter, so I'm guessing he's more suited to short outings.
  20. relievers walk more guys than starters, so I don't know if his bb/9 rate is a problem.
  21. "lit up" might be an overstatement. not finding the plate is the problem.
  22. Oooverbay, is that a shaved beaver I see? I think this thread has no redeeming value. jmo.
  23. has the roster been finalized? McClung is the kind of guy that could get traded for a prospect by next Sunday.
  24. Carlos Lee had more years of service. If Cabrera was a FA, the contract wouldn't be out of line at all. This long of a contract, at this price, for a guy as young as Cabrera (along with Tulowitzki and others' contracts), means that there are going to be lots of disgruntled young stars if they don't get comparable contracts. Effectively, it might mean that low-salary teams give up their stars a year or two earlier. That's not good.
  25. a problem with the study is that the pitchers are habituated to the higher mound. If they got used to a lower mound, they might throw slightly differently. I dunno. What do you want? Pitchers aren't exactly dominating hitters right now. Do you want to take away one of their advantages?
