  1. Normally I would tell myself that no sane GM would trade Cameron for Cabrera and take on Igawa's contract. There can't be any truth in the discusions. Then I think back to last season signing Gagne, trading Estrada for Mota, and the signing of Suppan and I think to myself, Melvin has thrown a lot of good money after bad players before what is to stop him now.
  2. I would also trade Tony Gwynn Jr. and Vinny Rottino for Felix Hernandez and JJ Putz. Jack Z is a former Brewers scout so he will know the value that Tony Gwynn and Vinny bring to the table.
  3. Well I am glad I heard that. No Offense but Gamel/Hardy/Jeffress/Parra for Ryan/Rolen/Halladay is the last type of deal I want to see. Not only are the Brewers taking on about 35 million per year in salary they are giving up about 20 combined seasons of control for around 6 seasons of control. This was my favorite line from Melvin "We'll make good baseball deals if they're out there," Melvin told FOXSports.com, "But our players are too talented and too young (to move). If you're trading guys in their first or second year of arbitration, you can't really build like that." That's how a GM should operate.
  4. Personally I hope that the Dodgers sign CC Sabathia and the Yankees or Astros sign Ben Sheets. I would love to have the 17th and the 26th picks in this year's draft. Quick question- now that you get extra picks if you top pick doesn't sign is that pick included if you sign multiple type-A Free Agents. I don't think it is but it would be interesting because this year the Yankees have the 26th and 29th pick in the draft. The 29th pick in the draft is because they failed to sign their first round pick from last season.
  5. You realize that the reason that the Yankees are interested in Cameron is because Johnny Damon can't really play center field anymore, right? I'd like the guy on my team sure, but he is really only a left fielder at this point in his career. Personally I would like to get younger talent to build around in return for Cameron. I would also like to free up money so it can be spent in other more pressing areas. That is just one fan's preferences though.
  6. Details. Throw Bill Hall into the Guillen trade. Jeff Suppan to whoever is willing to pick up the most of his contract. (We eat about half) In my opinion, Guillen/Johnson/Hoffman would cost about 23 million. Those 3 players at $23 million > $CC Sabathia at 20 million What more details do you need? Like I said before. Right now the Brewers have a $70+ million. Guillen will make $10 million next season, Johnson will make at least 7 million, Hoffman will make at least 6 million and Sheets will probably make at least around 12 million. So at the bottom of the payroll to add the guys you have listed is 105 million. Now if you estimate that Johnson gets 8.5 million which it would probably take, Hoffman will probably get 7.5 million and Sheets will probably get around 14-15 million on a short 2 year deal. 70+8.5+7.5+14+10=110. That is how I got 110 million. Please don't make me list out how I got to the 70 million number. Yes you could try to dump Suppan and Hall but that is easier said than done.
  7. Very little long term risk but a $110+ million payroll. I can't see Hoffman signing for under 7, Carlos Guillen is 12, Johnson will probably be 7-8, and Ben Sheets is at least 12. That is alot of money to tack on while not subtracting any.
  8. I was pretty disappointed myself. T-Shirts, hats and Bobbles where cheap. Otherwise things I thought would be there and cheap just weren't. I wanted a Jersey but as stated before $200 does not make sense. A Bat would have been cool. Even a non-game used bat. Again at $200 I wasn't going to bite. I picked up a green hat that was non pro-fit sitting with a bunch of $5 hats that I really liked. When I got to the checkout the lady looked at it and it had a 23 under the brim. I guess it was a hat worn by Rickie Weeks in a spring training game. $200. I was shocked. Not signed or anything else besides a 23 under the brim. The other thing that I didn't like to much is they kept on bringing in various merchandise. Not restocking from what I could tell. Just bringing it in. Other Observations J.J. Hardy signed stuff for comparitively cheap prices. Picture for $60 and ball for $20. Brian Shouse jersey in with a bunch of former Brewers jerseys. From what I could tell it was the jersey of a player that is not signed with another team or out right released by the Brewers. Granted I did stroll in a little later about 10:00 but at $200 I just didn't forsee them jumping off the racks. I don't know if I should look any further into it other than the Brewers just had a lot of overstock or they wanted to be generous with the Hardy signature considering he is a fan favorite. Anyway I found it a bit curious.
  9. I might be in the minority but I will take a pitcher out for personal stats. This isn't basketball where he will hog the ball. This isn't football where he will $!@!% about not getting enough carries. This is Pitching where the more he wants the ball the better and the more guys he strikes out the better it is for the Brewers. I don't see how having personal goals as a pitcher is counter productive?
  10. Haven't you ever seen Mr. Baseball?
  11. So he's older, pitched in extreme pitcher's parks known as the NL West and is looking for a 4 year deal. I'd have to say no. If it was a 2 year deal, sure. But 4 years at big money for a 36 year old pitcher does not interest me.
  12. I think I would do a Beltre/Felix Hernandez for Fielder/Suppan Swap, I don't think we need the prospects. But I agree with you 100% there is no reason to get rid of Fielder right now. He is our best offensive weapon and coming off a down year. If the Brewers decide to move him in the next 3 seasons it should be because Melvin couldn't believe the deal that was offered. Not because he wanted to experiment with the lineup a bit.
  13. I don't think trading Bush or Fielder is really selling high on either of them. Actually I think you are selling low on both of them. I agree selling high on players is very smart and the Brewers should look into doing it more often. The players that fit this category this season are Hardy and Cameron. Both players could fetch alot more than what I think they are worth. I think Cameron will be moved however I think the fan backlash from trading Hardy is something the Brewers don't want to deal with right now. They would rather wait a year and get $.50 on the dollar for him like everyone wants to do with Hart, Fielder and Weeks this season.
  14. I just can't see all the fuss over Sanchez. he is a 26 year old that had a 5 ERA last season and a 1.45 WHIP. I can't see giving up JJ for that and a 27 year old middle reliever with an equally questionable ERA and WHIP. The only way I would do the deal is if the decent prospect was Madison Bumgarner. Then I would easily do the deal.
  15. I have to second long john silver's. I know deep fried fish is greasy but that fish was 100% disgusting and I can eat just about anything. I have to agree with the person's mention of the double cheeseburger from McDonald's dollar menu too. For $1 it seems like a great idea but after you finish you wonder to yourself why you keep doing that to yourself.
  16. I doubt that gets it done...I bet it would have to be closer to 4 yrs/$60 million. It might not get it done. However there is a lot of anti-Dunn upper management people out there and Dunn was not offered arbitration, so maybe it does get done. I also bet someone might offer him more, but 4 and 44 is the most I would go for Dunn at this point for the Brewers because like colbyjack said our Outfield Defense would take a hit. Maybe I would go 4/48 but there is no way the brewers should go to 4/60
  17. If the Brewers want they can hold on to Fielder for 3 more seasons then get 2 top round picks for him when he leaves. 3 more seasons is an eternity in terms of a baseball fan's perspective. The only way I trade Prince is if the Brewers get an unbelievable package of young pitching and players or a young stud pitcher like Lincecum. Seeing how that is not going to happen after the season he just completed I would hold on to him. watch him hit another 50 homers and see if his trade value increases next season. Although after Prince hits 50 the fan sentiment will change from the Brewers need to trade Fielder to the Brewers are to cheap to keep Fielder. It was amazing to gage fan's opinions for Sheets throughout the year. As for seeing if Gamel can hack first base. I hope the Brewers are done with this model of wasting players arbitration years hoping young players can hack it instead of letting them get the propper training in the minors and bringing them up after the player shows he is ready. We'll see how it goes but I think I will flip out if Escobar, Gamel, Jeffress, or Salome break camp with the Brewers.
  18. DMiles I would go with Letter C However after you listed them all, I thought to myself how I would love if they traded Suppan and Cameron and received Phil Hughes in return. I know total pipe dream.
  19. AC/DC after they lost their lead singer Bon Scott??
  20. offer Adam Dunn 4 years and 44 million. If he accepts ship Cameron to New York and shift Hart to Center, Braun to right and Dunn to Left. Defense wouldn't be that good but a lineup of Weeks Dunn Braun Fielder Hardy Hart Hall Kendall That is a rediculous lineup especially if Weeks, Hart and Hall can rebound at all
  21. I hate the list. There is no way I would trade Carlos Villanueva right now unless someone extremely overpayed. Dave Roberts should be looked at as a throw in. Ben Sheets should be offered Arbitration and that is it. Take the 2 high picks and move on. If Ben Accepts it then great. But I doubt that he does. If the Brewers wanted a Giant outfielder, I would look at Randy Winn.
  22. I wonder if we could get a Corey Koskie deal on Lowel. I would much rather get a discounted salary on Lowel than just throw in Hall and his Salary. I wonder if Boston would be willing to eat 16-20 million on Lowell. That would make next years infield very formidable with Hall getting the Super Sub role back. I agree with And That. I don't really care what handed Lowel is. I just care that he can hit right handed pitching. And a .299/.351/.491 line over the last 3 seasons against right handers pretty much says that he can hit them. Test the back, make sure it is a go, then get the deal done.
