  1. I must be able to see the future because I brought up my old Castro thread prior to seeing this one. I feel bad for the guy but this had to be done. Castro has done an awful job with this staff. Now Macha needs to go and Melvin needs to hire Bobby Valentine who is leaving Japan.
  2. I hate to bring this thread up again but almost every pitcher on this staff has regressed while Mike Maddux has done wonders with the Texas pitching staff. I realize many of these pitchers are just flat out terrible but has Castro really gotten the most out of this staff. Yes Castro has been part of the organization for a long time and Im sure he is a likeable guy but as of now I dont think he is an effective pitching coach. Melvin really needs to rectify his errors and fire this entire staff after the season. Bring in Bobby Valentine and let him find a good pitching coach.
  3. This team is flat out terrible and has been for months. Its embarrassing watching this team play anyone at this point. I will be shocked if this team finishes over .500.
  4. Kendall needs to retire and Macha needs to be fired.
  5. Very interesting interview. As soon as he said he wasnt "motivated" to move Hardy I knew that he wont be here much longer. Sounds like he knows our pitching is awful and he even sounded like Kendall could be replaced but maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part.
  6. The Yankees would just release a guy like Suppan or Hall while we have to keep them because we have spent so much money on them. When the Yankees mess up with a Pavano or Irabu they just move on and sign Sabathia while we move on to Mike Burns. Our GM is far more skilled than a guy like Cashman but one has 80 or so million to spend while the other has 250 million. That my friends is not competitive balance in any way.
  7. Most people dont realize just how good and valuable Cameron is. When the Brewers have some .700 OPS guy playing CF who doesnt make nearly the amount off plays Cameron does in CF people will realize how valuable Cameron has been. I really hope we bring Cameron back next season.
  8. This team is more likely to lose 85 or more games than finish over .500.
  9. I really wonder if the Brewers training staff butchered this whole Dave Bush injury since they didnt discover any tears until Bush made several more starts after being hit by that line drive.
  10. Kendall must have this entire organization under a spell or something because there are few if any catchers in baseball today who play as many games as he does. The guy is really not a major league caliber player anyone; unfortunately I will be shocked if he isnt back next year in the same role he has today. The majority of this board doesnt really just how much Melvin loves the guy.
  11. The NFL has it right. Every team in the league has the opportunity to win if they draft well, get good coaching and sign the right free agents. I like the fact that the Jets are on equal footing with the rest of the league and cant just buy their way to a championship. I also like that the NFL has the franchise tag which allows each franchise to keep its most marketable players. Its sad knowing the Brewers wont be able to keep Prince past the next two years and that some team like the Yankees or Red Sox will blow any offer we make out of the water. Professional sports should be about each franchise having an equal chance to win and thats just not the case in major league baseball. I really hope one day we can have a salary cap as well as a salary floor to insure that every franchise has a chance.
  12. This organization is delusional if they actually think we are in the race. Its time to start thinking about 2010 not loading up so we can beat out the Astros for third place. We better not have given up anything of value for Weathers since we are out of the race.
  13. A productive out is a game winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth.
  14. As much as I hate Kendall we better get used to the fact that he will be back next year as the starting catcher in the same role as he has now and you can take that to the bank.
  15. One way to have a more consistent offense is to replace the worst offensive player in baseball (Kendall) with someone competent.
  16. Part of being a good GM is knowing when to trade guys away. Melvin should have known that the offense was in good shape but that our pitching was in shambles so holding onto Hardy and Hart was foolish. It seems that Melvin has no intention of trading Escobar so signing Hardy is out of the question. With that in mind Melvin should have traded Hardy last offseason and signed a stop gap guy like an Everett or Vizquel to hold the spot till Escobar is ready. As far as Hart is concerned outfielders are the easiest guys to find so trading a young player like Hart to a team like San Francisco was the thing to do. Heck we might have been able to trade both Hardy and Hart to Boston for Buchholz or San Fran for Bumgarner who could be a star. Instead we are stuck with two guys whose values have dropped dramatically and our need for pitching is greater than ever. Look I still believe in Melvin somewhat but I fear he is gonna be fleeced at some point this next offseason because we are that desperate for frontline starting pitching. I would hate to have to see us trade Escobar and Gamel next offseason because we held onto Hardy and Hart one season too long.
  17. I dont consider McClung a young power arm with upside. He had already shown with Tampa that he had absolutely no ability to throw strikes and that was not gonna change. JDLR did have that kind of potential when we traded for him but it just didnt work out. Melvin too often has placed his bets on the Burketts and Suppans of the world; strike throwers with very little upside and guys that are just not good enough to lead a staff. I really believe Melvin missed the boat on trading Hardy and Hart and now the value of both of them is down in the dumps. The only way we will get the type of power arms we need is to trade Escobar and or Gamel. If we had traded Hart and or Hardy before this season we wouldnt be in this position. Melvin's continued insistance on counting on pitchers without significant upside is a flaw in his talent evaluation.
  18. The big question that has to be answered is whether or not it is possible for this team to get a real pitcher without surrendering Gamel/Escobar or both. I really wonder what kind of pitcher we will be able to get for JJ and or Corey. Hardy is one year away from free agency and Corey has become an average outfielder. I dont exactly see us getting a guy like Buchholz for either one of them and I dont see a guy like Bannister as good enough to make us contenders next season. Melvin most likely missed his chance to get anything really valuable for Hardy or Hart when they had real trade value and it might end up costing us Gamel because Melvin is going to become desperate at some point to acquire the pitching we need.
  19. Its embarrassing the amount of scrubs this team has on the staff right now. Burns doesnt belong anywhere near the major leagues much less the rotation. I doubt a guy like Cody would be that much better but why not find out.
  20. As far as Im concerned this year is shot. I realize we wont make the playoffs every year but the long term pitching situation is very scary and one really has to wonder if Melvin is the man to fix it. Like I have pointed out before Melvin has just not done a very good job in putting together good pitching staffs. His tendency to like pitchers with average to below average stuff is killing us. His staffs in Texas featured the likes of Helling, Sele and Burkett who all had stuff similar to Suppan and Looper. Besides bringing in CC for half a year and drafting Gallardo and Parra what power arms has Melvin brought in? Even at this trading deadline we were looking at the likes of Brian Bannister who is another guy who cant break glass with his fastball. As frustrating as the season has gotten I could accept it if I saw a better long range plan for fixing the pitching. Melvin has done a great job finding offense now his job is to find good, young power arms. Holding onto JJ and Corey one year too long has really hurt us.
  21. Harang has been abused for too many years to take the chance. He has had arm problems and has logged a ridiculous amount of innings. I would pass.
  22. We easily could have matched that offer. Im indifferent at this point as I dont see us being contenders. As long as we dont give up Gamel I will be happy.
  23. Enough with the Suppan type pitchers which Bannister is. Melvin needs to start targeting power arms.
  24. Shouldnt Bill Castro get some blame for this awful pitching staff. I dont see one guy on this staff that has improved since last year and several most notably Manny Parra and Carlos Villanueva have taken major steps backwards. Meanwhile Mike Maddux has done wonders with a Texas pitching staff that wasnt particularly good last year. I think we really miss Maddux and it shows.
  25. Step away from the bottle. In all seriousness I hope you are right but I just dont think this team is good enough.
